VULKK NEW LOGO

The New Logo and The Story Behind It

Vulkk by Vulkk|

As of today you will see a brand new logo on VULKK.com, my YouTube channel, all my Social accounts, Discord and everywhere Vulkk is present!

Hi, guys! This is a small change perhaps for some of you, but it is one of the biggest steps I have done related to my brand. It has been over 15 years since I first put the Legendary Master Yoda on my ICQ avatar for the first time. Since then this green-white figure on a dark background has been my logo everywhere I am registered officially as Vulkk or Alex. I love that image. I love it so much that it was very hard for me when I decided to change it.

Why am I changing the logo?

There were a few reasons why I wanted to change my logo, but first and foremost – because of licensing issues. So far nobody from Disney or Lucas has ever contacted me about that, but since this is a licenced Star Wars character and is not designed by me, I was never completely sure about using it on places where I earn money – like YouTube and VULKK.com.

I want to be able to put my logo on absolutely anything and anywhere I think of and not having to worry about licenses. So, about a month ago, I contacted Jessie. Some of you know her as The Stardust Legacy. She’s a SWTOR player, co-host of The Passionately Casual Podcast, my friend and a Patron of mine for a long time.

Another reason were the colors. Yoda’s bright green and white didn’t fit with the theme of my website. VULKK.com has a dark background, mixed with a bit lighter grey for accent, with near-white letters and Gold headings. I wanted my logo to follow that scheme and it simply was not possible to change Yoda to these colors without making the Great Master look ridiculous.

How did I decide on the design

The nickname “Vulkk” I use is actually a wordplay. “Vulk” means “Wolf” in my language – Bulgarian. I’ve always been interested in these animals and thought I’d use that connection in some way. By the way, the second “k” in my name is just because I thought it looks cool. I have no clue if there is a person using “Vulk” at all on social networks, YouTube, Steam etc. I went for the double-k right from the start.

We went through several stages, but the main idea was to implement a wolf’s head and a “V” in the logo. As many of you know, I am not exactly the craziest person “on stage”. I don’t rage… in public. I don’t curse and swear all the time. When I am live streaming, I am always passionate about the things I care about, but I also try to be friendly and calm. I guess Jessie knew these things about me and her first sketches were in the style of “a cute wolf trying to look angry and scary”.

I never wanted my logo to imply that I am a cute person. In fact, I never thought this way about myself. So, I asked, can we have it be a bit angrier and somehow overlay-ed on the V-shape.

The image above on the right was a good step in the right direction, but I wanted more integration between the wolf’s head and the letter V. A few days later and a bit more tweaking and Jessie showed me the final design, which I loved:

Getting closer, but the right one was too scary, wouldn’t you agree? :)))

The final choice had to be “with sideburns” or “without sideburns”. With the help of a few friends, and my Patrons’s votes, I opted for the more realistic wolf’s head with the sideburns.

From now on this logo will be everywhere. Small alternatives and differences in its shape and size will be visible on different screens, accounts, networks and places, but that’s because the internet doesn’t have a “one size fits all” option.

Attention to the smallest details!

As you can see, for me nothing happens just like that, with a snap of a finger… I like to take my time and consider as many possibilities and options as I can, when it comes to something of great importance to me.

I hope you like the new design! I had some hard time letting the Yoda avatar go, but this new one is absolutely worth the change and I am thrilled with the end result.
