SWTOR 6.0 Guide to Amplifiers

Guide and detailed lists to all Amplifiers that came with SWTOR 6.0 and Onslaught. They provide bonus stats and perks added to gear pieces.!

Amplifiers in SWTOR are an additional bonus stat, that can be rolled on higher quality gear and mods. They also vary in tiers and quality and there are different pools of Amplifier bonuses that can be rolled based on the which gear piece this amp is attached to. This guide will help you get up to speed with one of the new features in Onslaught – Amplifiers are part of the new gearing system Spoils of War!

INTRODUCTION TO AMPLIFIERS

The developers say in the announcement post on swtor.com that “Our goal for creating the Amplifier system was to add an extra level of depth for players to customize their characters“. I personally think this a very well crafted and designed credit sink.

The Amps are not something BioWare comes up with first in the world. This system is also not a mandatory one for the regular players. What this means is that the bonus stats  from your Amplifiers on your gear do not count for the balancing that BioWare designed and tweaked all of the game’s content, with one exception – Master Mode Operations.

These stats are a true bonus. While interesting and fun to play with, the Amps are in nature very very small bonuses to either your abilities and performance in combat or a they give a boost to your character’s utility skills such as crafting, gathering or… lowering the cost of flight tickets (D’OH!).

The Amplifiers are randomly assigned bonuses that can appear on Shells, Armorings, Mods, Hilts and Barrels. Based on the location where the Amp is, you will draw from different pools. There are no level requirements, but these bonuses can only appear on gear pieces if they meet certain requirements. Bonuses from Amplifiers do stack up.

There are three tiers of Amplifiers when it comes to type of boosts they provide:

  • Primary Amplifiers – attached to Armorings, Hilts and Barrels. These amps provide bonuses that will increase your performance in combat. They can only appear on Artifact gear items (Purple color) or higher. Unmoddable gear in Onslaught will start getting Amps at Premium tier (Green color), but only one Primary Amp can be attached to those.
  • Secondary Amplifiers – atached to Mods. These provide a boost to quality of life elements of your gameplay, such as quicker mission skills, better crafting results, mount speed improvements and so on.
  • Tertiary Amplifiers – attached to Shells. These are the most common ones and will start appearing at Green tier gear items or higher. They provide generic boosts to things like crafting, XP and Renown increased earnings or rewards from PvP.

BioWare announced that there are no currently plans for Amps to appear on Augments, but they will be made available to Enhancements in the future.

RE-ROLLING YOUR AMPLIFIERS

If you are not happy with the Amplifiers you get when you loot an item, you can re-roll. This is where the credit sink idea shines, in my opinion. The re-rolling is not very expensive, but there are way too many Amps attached to all sorts of gear and for the maximalists and min-maxers it might be a very expensive adventure. Of course, you can always simply obtain more of the specific item and they will always come with a randomly rolled amp(s).

There are RNG prevention mechanics in place. BioWare has created a system that boosts your chance of looting or getting a better item if it notices you have been out of luck for a long time.

Every time you opt to re-roll an amp, two new ones (always new) will become available for you to choose from. If one of the two new offers is better than your current amp stat, you can replace it. If you don’t like any of the two new options, you can keep the existing amp and potentially re-roll again later. Each time you roll for new amps, the price goes higher, in small chunks, but it does, so be aware of that too.
