SWTOR 7.4.1 Release Date and New Features Announced

Jackie Ko, SWTOR Community Manager, has announced the release date for SWTOR’s Game Update 7.4.1, along with a couple of previously unannounced and long-awaited features that it will contain.

SWTOR Game Update 7.4.1 will be released on Tuesday, March 12th, 2024! The devs already announced the largest elements coming to SWTOR with Game Update 7.4.1 in a dedicated livestream last month.

It’s a minor update (denoted by 7.X.1), so don’t expect anything too huge. However, 7.4.1 is shaping up to be larger (and arriving later) than usual.

We’ll get Galactic Season 6 “Building a Foundation” with the main reward being a dazzling Copero Stronghold. In addition, we’ll get the first round of repeatable Date Night missions with the 4 universally romanceable companions from KOTFE/KOTET. As always, there will be some new Cartel Market items too, with cosmetics inspired by the Disney+ show Ahsoka.

Shae Vizla APAC Server Transfers

With 7.4.1, Broadsword will finally be opening up Character Transfers to the recently released Shae Vizla APAC server. As part of today’s announcement, Jackie explained that your outfits will now be preserved and transferred as part of the Character Transfer process.

You won’t have to repay to unlock those outfit slots again or spend time rebuilding the outfits. This will allow the 15mil per toon credit transfer limit to go further and likely allow you to retain outfits that might be comprised of armor sets (and dyes) that you no longer have. Check out our guide if you want to know more about the updated restrictions surrounding the free and paid character transfers to Shae Vizla.

It’s still infuriating that the credit transfer has a cap at all. I’m sure a huge proportion of APAC players are transferring their toons and are looking to migrate their entire legacy to the new server that’s actually in their region. Legacies include hard-earned credits. For crying out loud, Legacy Cargo Holds literally include a wallet for your credits!

Given that the hyperinflation-reducing measures will remain active on Shae Vizla despite numerous reports that they’re crushing the server’s economy, I don’t expect the quarter billion credits that players can transfer for free will last long. But hey, at least Broadsword is trying to cushion the blow. At the very least, they should also make it free to unlock strongholds too.

I get that they want to preserve the current lack of inflation on the new server, but with prices dropping so precipitously on the other servers, it shouldn’t be long before inflation isn’t an issue anywhere. It gives me a strong impression that Broadsword doesn’t have faith in the effectiveness of the changes they made to improve the economy.

Portable GTN Droid Legacy Character Perk

We will finally, FINALLY, be getting a portable GTN Droid! Thank the Maker! The forum post was a tad confusing, but I’m pretty confident that the GTN Droid will be a Character Perk just like the other Convenience Droids, so you will have to pay to unlock it on each toon. Here are the prices and unlock requirements for each tier:

Perk Rank
and Cooldown

Unlock Cost

Level Req.

Tier 1
60min CD

3,500,000 Credits
or
400 CC

Character Level 20
and
Legacy Level 5*

Tier 2
45min CD

7,000,000 Credits
or
250 CC

Character Level 50
and
Legacy Level 10*

Tier 3
15min CD

15,000,000 Credits
or
250 CC

Character Level 80
and
Legacy Level 20*

The total cost to fully unlock the GTN Droid per toon will be 25,500,000 Credits or 900 CC, and that toon will need to be level 80.

For those of you transferring to Shae Vizla, I strongly recommend that you unlock the GTN Character Perk before transferring so that you don’t waste any of your precious, paltry credit transfer allotment!

Since Legacy Character Perk unlock costs have not kept up with inflation, now is the best time to fully unlock those perks on all of your toons. Yes, it would have been better to unlock them last year when inflation was at its peak, but I haven’t found any way to reach the World Between Worlds in SWTOR yet, so the best time for you is still right now.

Unless you’re a brand-new player or intend to play the competitive sport that is performing gnarly flips on the GTN in SWTOR, you will most likely have far more credits right now than you will ever have. Even though the buying power of a single credit in the game will be stronger as the economy deflates to a healthy level, it likely won’t affect the unlock costs for Legacy Perks.

New cosmetic gear type: Ancient Armaments

Jackie also announced that a new type of purely cosmetic gear called Ancient Armaments will be available with 7.4.1. These forever-empty shells do not have stats and cannot be equipped or modded, only dyed and stamped into outfits.

Ancient Armaments will be obtainable from Daily Login Rewards and as random world drops. We don’t have too much detail on what armors will be included, though it will include appearances that “could not previously be acquired or traded”. To me, that means craftable gear from schematics lost to time and the few endgame armor sets that aren’t available as ranked replicas from PvP Seasons and S3T-BNS vendors.

It’s also unclear whether these will be full armor sets or individual pieces. I would expect them to be the former because they would otherwise be much harder to use as outfits. However, Jackie did note that they can be traded and sold on the GTN, so it sounds like they will at least be Bind on “Equip” and that might be a way to obtain complete sets.

The following is 100% pure speculation, but Ancient Armaments could indicate a massive (and completely necessary) simplification in stats and gearing coming at some point in the future. Given other trends within the endgame gearing process, I believe we could be heading toward an 8.0 where all armor is purely cosmetic, left-side / accessory gear is gone, and weapons are the only thing you can upgrade.

They could easily migrate Legendary Implant effects to the weapons and discipline-specific tactical item effects to a new choice in the ability tree and merge the more generic ones into existing talents. The process to obtain mods from Hyde and Zeek already only requires you to upgrade 1 piece of gear, and you only need 2 implants, so upgrading 2 weapons would take a similar amount of time.

Of course, it’s also possible that this is just meant to replace the crafted sets that can’t be sold on the GTN anymore because they have randomized stats.

UPDATE: We now have a full guide to Fitted Gear (Ancient Armaments) in SWTOR. That guide will also give you tips and recommendations on how to approach gearing while leveling.

Lastly, while it’s not necessarily tied to the 7.4.1 update itself, we did open up a few sections of the forums to players who have Preferred accounts. Going forward, any player who has a Preferred account can now create threads and post replies in the New Player HelpIntroductions, and Bug Reports sub-forums.

I’ll be updating this thread as needed and will unlock it once 7.4.1 goes live.

Thanks all! See you on Tuesday!

Stay tuned for the patch notes for 7.4.1 coming on March 11th, 2024. Until then, check out one of the guides we’ve released recently, like the last of the 7.0 DPS guides for Fury Marauder and Concentration Sentinel, and consider trying them out in the very first raid in SWTOR, Eternity Vault.
