Hutta has finally received its visual update with SWTOR 7.5. This article will show you comparison screenshots of Hutta before and after the update. Come take a look and see how much has changed!
Hutta’s Visual Update
When 7.4 was released, many of the starter worlds received visual updates in the form of updated textures and models. Tython, Ord Mantell, and Korriban received the visual updates but Hutta was left untouched.
The developers can only do so much but with the announcement of SWTOR 7.5 during the developer livestream, we got a sneak peek what the visual updates on Hutta would be!
Well, the day has come and I’ll be showing you actual captured before and after shots of Hutta with coordinates. Let’s take a look!
Near the Spawn Zone
This first one is near the spawn zone at -632 X, 429 Y. So far the biggest difference is the shader differences. The metal floor paneling and metal support appear to have the same textures.
The debris on the floor got new models, the trees have a new bark texture, and the trees have new leaves. Personally, I think the tree’s previous leaves looked better, it had more depth before the update. The debris on the floor was also a lot more varied.
Cantina Entrance
Next we have the cantina at -429 X, 293 Y. This one is rather disappointing as there’s a lack of texture changes. To make matters worse, we lost some glowing lights on the wall textures, they now appear blank or lack luminescence.
Evocii Work Camp
Let’s look at the Evocii Work Camp at -151 X, 529 Y. The dirt covering the metal panels looks a LOT smoother and finer. The rocks and trees got updated, but aside from that not much else was changed.
Fa’athra’s Palace
How about Fa’athra’s Palace? These pictures were taken at 274 X, 667 Y. Here we can finally see some slight terrain changes, the building on the left has a new door, more tree shape variety, and the added smog makes the palace’s lights stick out more.
Bloom Effects
3Let’s see how bloom makes a difference on Hutta. This screenshot takes place near the ocean at 317 X, -45 Y.
The bloom puts the sun into overdrive with how big it is, though this can be seen as the air being so thick is spreads out the light this way.
The pipes appear to have new models which smooth out the edges, and the texture on the metal paneling at the bottom left looks updated.
The Fauna
The last example I’ll be showing you features a chemlizard at 553 X, -110 Y. Here you can really see the updated textures with the dirt, water, tree bark, and the tall green grass is now orange to match the other plant life. The trees shape and design looks worse overall, I was fond of the space willows.
Overall Thoughts
I never spent a lot of time on Hutta myself, I primarily play Republic characters so I never visited it often. Overall I think it looks worse in good and bad ways, but mostly bad. The shader for the terrain makes everything more green and foggy, giving you the impression that this area is very polluted.
But the trees! Why the trees? They look like something that came from the early 2000’s and the lack of tree diversity is disappointing.
Along with less diverse tree and rock models, you have the missing luminescent bits on some buildings, it seems like the devs were relying more on the new shader for an updated look rather than making better and more diverse models and textures.
An effort was made but do keep in mind that the dev team was (likely) shrunk after SWTOR moved from BioWare to Broadsword, there’s only so much they can do.
