Pearl Abyss is giving players a peek behind the curtain, discussing the details of the currently in-development content for Crimson Desert in a new Dev Update.

The highlights of these upcoming changes and additions are a new Difficulty System, Specialized Storage, and Boss Re-matches.

At the time of writing, no roadmap or dates have been provided for these features; They are only stated as in development.

Difficulty System

As you play through Crimson Desert, have you ever thought, “Crimson Desert is so easy”? Or perhaps even the opposite? Well, good news, Pearl Abyss is looking out for everyone, casual and hardcore gamers alike, by adding Difficulty options in the future.

This allows you to pick from Easy, Normal, and Hard difficulties, allowing you to adjust how punishing you want combat to be. It’s not currently stated whether or not this is only for a New Playthrough or available at any time via Settings.

Specialized Storage

Private Storage will be getting split into four separate and useful Storage systems: Food, Wardrobe, Gatherables, and Collections. This clears up a LOT of clunk and tedium involved with using the current Private Storage.

Food Storage will not only hold food items, but also allow you to cook using items without even having to take anything from storage. This likely only works in our Homestead in Howling Hill, but if it’s at all times, that’s a massive win.

The Wardrobe will handle all of your armor pieces. They don’t share any specifics beyond that, but we hope it will include an option to sort or separate items by set.

Gatherables Storage will hold all of our Crafting Materials: Bone, Stone, Ores, Insects, etc. Similar to the Food Storage, items can also be directly used from here, as well as saving valuable time when crafting or upgrading.

Boss Re-matches

Yep, you read that right, you’re finally going to be able to go and challenge bosses again after you defeat them.

It’s not stated whether or not the option will exist to fight a more difficult version of the bosses, or if it’s the same fight. Though if Difficulty is adjustable on demand, it will still be possible to fight a harder version of the bosses that way.

Re-blockading

Certain areas will be re-blockaded to allow you to find more combat opportunities. This will be important in the late game when you have completed the story, cleared everything, but still want some more gameplay fun from Crimson Desert. You know… after the first 200 hours the game does open up.

Improvements to Character Play

New Skills for Damiane and Oongka

Based on players’ feedback, Damiane and Oongka will receive new skills comparable to “Force Palm” and “Axiom Force.”

Hide Back Weapons

After the Hide your Helmet feature was added, the devs stated they are working on a new option to hide the weapons on your character’s back. This will mean that certain equipment worn on your back won’t break immersion during combat.

Addition of New Outfits

New outfits for characters will be added. Additionally, certain outfits that can currently only be sold or donated will be updated so that they can also be worn by the playable characters.

Pets & Mounts

More summonable mounts and new pets will be added. Also, in addition to existing horse tack sets, dedicated armor for other mounts is also being planned. It feels bad to ride the mighty bear or fearsome wolf without proper equipment for them. Right? Right?

System and Graphics Improvements

UI Improvements

To improve legibility, Pearl Abyss is going to add a minimum font size adjustment option. Since Crimson Desert supports 14 UI languages, fully optimizing this feature across all of them will take some time, but the devs plan to introduce it first to help make the game more comfortable to play. They also plan to continue improving various UI elements and QoL features, including improvements to the map, inventory, and housing.

Improvements to Controls

Pearl Abyss is reviewing our feedback about controls. To provide a better gameplay experience, they plan to add customization options for certain controller inputs. They will also expand the range of configurable keys for keyboard and mouse to improve usability.

Improvements to Distant Scenery Quality

Enhancing the realism of distant backgrounds is in the works, so you can enjoy Pywel’s landscapes in greater depth. As if the current vistas were not pretty enough?

The patch size including those may be larger due to improvements to distant scenery changes and the quality of rendering under different conditions.

Free OST coming

And for those who missed the announcement, Pearl Abyss will be releasing a Crimson Desert OST. The OST will be available for free on Steam and will also be released on major global music streaming platforms.

Please note that the features introduced today are currently in development, and details may change when the update is released. Names are tentative as well.
