Ancient Sealed Gate Puzzle and Abyss Kutum Boss Fight in Crimson Desert

Adrian by Adrian|

The Ancient Sealed Gate is one of Crimson Desert’s many Puzzles. Find out how to solve the puzzle, beat the Abyss Kutum boss, complete the challenge and claim the Abyss Artifact reward.

How to reach the Ancient Sealed Gate

While not a direct continuation, the chain of Abyss puzzles that starts with Obsession and Madness quest in Chapter IV, ends with Ice Cradle, which will actually send you back down on the ground in exactly this area.

The Spire of Stars starts a chain of puzzles up in the Abyss. They are optional, not part of the main storyline, but will give you an opportunity to unlock the Lightning Skill in the red skill tree as well as obtain several Abyss Artifacts, Abyss Gear and other treasures. Here is the order:

  1. Spire of the Stars
  2. Secret Garden
  3. Vault of Vengeance
  4. Courtyard of Precision
  5. Altar of Solitude
  6. Ice Cradle
  7. Ancient Sealed Gate (in this guide)
  8. Abyss Kutum Boss (in this guide)

How to solve the Ancient Sealed Gate puzzle

Following the Skybridge path will take you down to Sage’s Peak, where a massive fan needs to be activated. To do so, use Blinding Flash to highlight the power conduits that lead to a cave that is right under the fan.

Inside the cave, there is a column that must be correctly aligned with the three big sockets. But before that, step into the small platform and press the button that will take you to the upper level, then use Axiom Force on the controller to activate it.

This is a bit tricky because the puzzle misleads you into thinking you did it right, while it might not be the case. After turning the rings for a few seconds, you will see and hear how the ring is “locked” but what you actually have to pay attention to is a very specific sound. The best way to describe it would be like a bright, metallic sound.

Once all three are in the right position, the socket at the center will be glowing blue.

Return to Sage’s Peak and step on the fan to activate it. Then glide all the way up to the Twisted Thicketway in the Abyss.

Make sure to have the right weapons and healing items ready because the moment you approach the center of the courtyard, a boss fight will begin.

How to beat the Abyss Kutum

The Abyss Kutum has two different types of attacks. The first one shoots multiple projectiles in your direction. The second type is simply slamming you after emerging from the ground or “looking” at you for a few seconds.

The main problem with all three attacks is that they deal AOE damage. So even if you dodge it, there is still a good possibility of getting hit by the electricity. If this happens, you will be stunned for a few seconds, opening the possibility of getting hit (and stunned) again.

There are three simple ways to defeat this enemy. The first one is simply to use Nature’s Snare to grab its projectiles and send them back to it. When it tries to slam you, just run away.

You can even go to the side of the courtyard where it can’t reach you, just keep in mind that the game will immediately ask you to return to the mission area before time runs out.

The second way to defeat the Abyss Kutum is by pulling its core out with Axiom Force. This strategy is harder to pull off because you have little time to pull it off before it attacks you.

If you manage to do so immediately when the battle begins, you can end it without being attacked a single time. I recommend hitting the body rather than the core because of the bigger hitbox.

The third and easiest way is to grab a tree from the sides with Nature’s Grasp. Walk towards the center and hit the Abyss Kutum with the tree when it appears.

This is a one-shot kill and a very hilarious way to beat it, but it might not give the same satisfaction depending on how you prefer to deal with these fights.

Reward

Once you beat it, all you have to do is press the button at the top and collect the Abyss Artifact. Make sure to grab the chest located on the left side of the courtyard.
