The Fall of Kylo Ren #2 brings back more characters, has excellent visual contrast and coloring, and introduces a new intriguing enemy!
The Knights of Ren are back
While the Knights of Ren by themselves were some of the most underwhelming characters in the sequels, I can’t deny that they’ve been part of some very interesting plotlines in multiple comic issues.
In previous stories, we explored how Kylo became the leader of the Knights of Ren, then how he went his own way, and in Episode IX, how they return to serve under his command. The Fall of Kylo Ren takes place between episodes VIII and IX, meaning that it’s the moment before these so-called spectres return to Kylo Ren’s service.
This issue takes us right into that route, but not in a predictable way. The Knights of Ren don’t simply return happily to follow orders. No, we’re still a bit far from that.
Trudgen, Vicrul, Ushar, Cardo, Kuruk, Ap’lek, and Tava Ren, the current leader, return with a deceptive purpose. Kylo, as Snoke, believes himself to be too powerful for anyone, so he basically lets them in without much questioning.
Unfortunately for him, right before he gets the answers he wants, the real reason for their visit starts tearing the entire ship apart.
More mysterious Dark Side artifacts, for better or worse
Dark Side artifacts are great for storytelling because they don’t require much context or justification. They can almost magically appear, have a strange effect on people, and have the rest of the story revolve around them.
This type of resource was already used in Legacy of Vader, which is the prequel to The Fall of Kylo Ren, and it worked quite well. It didn’t contradict any of the existing lore while adding that dark and mystique element that has become rarer in recent years, at least when it comes to media that covers the sequels.
This issue introduces yet another artifact that is imbued with the dark side of the Force. What makes this a bit more interesting is the fact that immediately after we get information about said artifact, chaos takes over the whole place.
The story leaves us with a few interesting questions and one fact that is very clear: Kylo Ren has no true allies; everything he achieves will require tons of effort, sweat, and blood.
A deadly new enemy appears
My favorite thing about this issue is the introduction of a new enemy that, so far, appears to be quite unique. This individual is making its debut here, so it’s something very refreshing.
Obviously, Kylo Ren survives the encounter and any future ones. But what got me invested in this new character is the fact that the Knights of Ren are terrified of it. Not just worried or a little scared. No, they look like common people trying to devise a plan that will, hopefully, work against this unstoppable being.
The Knights of Ren aren’t an invincible group by any means, but they’re not some pack of baby Loth-cats who can be bullied by your average gangsters. Yet, they’re so desperate that Kylo Ren is their best (and only) hope to get rid of whatever this thing is.
The last pages tease that this unknown foe is able to adapt and return stronger every time. Kylo Ren might have won this time, but what about the next time? Or the next?
This is probably going to be more of an endurance test rather than something about just raw power. As evident as the final result is, I still hope that Kylo Ren faces one hell of a challenge.
Final thoughts
The Fall of Kylo Ren #2 is an issue where every page is interesting and feels relevant to the next one, which is something that is hard to find on issues with a lower page count.
There are a considerable number of characters involved, and that is something that I always enjoy. All of them have just the right amount of dialogue without taking up the spotlight.
While the series is going to be a short one with just 5 issues, the story is already promising to be something very fun and entertaining. Though I have said the same words before and ended up with a bittersweet sensation. Let’s hope it’s not the case for this one.

Plot summary (spoilers)
The Knights of Ren arrive at the Supreme Leader’s ship, asking permission to dock. They don’t state their intentions, but Tava Ren emphasizes how Kylo Ren is the only chance they have.
She delivers a strange artifact that is clearly related to the dark side of the Force. Just a few seconds after interacting with it, he feels some type of resonance. He decides to take Tava for questioning while the other Knights of Ren are kept under guard.
Shortly after Kylo begins the interrogation, the alarm goes off. Not just any alarm, the alarm that indicates a hull breach. Something just penetrated the Supreme Leader’s ship. The Knights of Ren make it evident that they were waiting for it; they knock down the guards and escape.
Next, we see a strange assassin droid that resembles something from Bionicle. By the time Kylo and Tava arrive, this droid has already defeated many Stormtroopers. Kylo Ren attacks it with his lightsaber, only to realize that it’s armed with Cortosis shields.
While Kylo fights with the droid, Tava Ren makes a run to the hangar, where the Knights of Ren are already waiting for her. Ren defeats the droid and prevents the Knights of Ren from leaving. When he asks what it is, Ren simply answers, “the beginning”.
On the last page, we see a new droid being built, as well as someone going over the recording of Kylo’s fight with the droid.
