With Update 2.0 to Star Wars: Battlefront 2 DICE completely revamped the progression system for Multiplayer. This guide will help you understand how the new mechanics work!
Let’s start with what you will see if your return to the game after the update: A new welcome screen will meet you with the news of the update, then you will receive a notification that Skill Points are now available for spending in your Collection. Finally, you will likely see a few new crates available for opening.
Here are the highlights of what has changed:
- Progression is now linear – you earn skill points each time you level up your character, hero or ship.
- You’ll keep everything you’ve already earned and unlocked.
- Crates are only cosmetic, no longer include Star Cards and cannot be purchased.
- You’ll be able to get Appearances directly through in-game Credits or Crystals starting April 2018.
- Battle Points stay the same – can only be earned in matches and allow you to play special units.
As mentioned above, the way to progress and get better upgrades now happens only through gameplay. The Star Cards system has been redesigned. Star Cards have been pulled out of the Crates and can now be earned via Skill Points. Skill Points are earned each time you level up with a character. It’s important to note that the Skill Points are also personal for the trooper/hero/ship you have earned them on. For example, if you earn a Skill Point playing your Assault Trooper, you will not be able to upgrade your TIE Fighter with that point.
In order to level up any trooper, you will need to play that unit and earn Skill Points through a combination of successful gameplay and time played. Then use those Skill Points to unlock that units Star Cards of your choosing. There is no longer a lottery where you have to acquire Crates.
When you level up a unit, you will earn Skill Points, which you can spend to unlock a Star Card at a common level (grey ones) or upgrade an existing Star Card. Remember, the Star Cards can only be upgraded if you are high enough level.
Star Cards can be unlocked at a common level at levels 2, 5, 10, 15 and 20 for 1 Skill Point each. Then upgrading them will cost you additional Skill Points for each tier. If you have unlocked a lvl 15 Star Card, for example, bur your unit is still level 12, you will keep the card unlocked. However, you will not be able to upgrade it until you reach the required level for its upgrade. That is Here’s a list of level requirements for Star Cards upgrades:
For Troopers
- Upgrading Uncommon Star Card to Rare – Level 22
- Upgrading Rare Star Card to Epic – Level 35
For Ships
- Upgrading Uncommon Star Card to Rare – Level 12
- Upgrading Rare Star Card to Epic – Level 25
If you happen to have maxed out all of the Star Cards, you will receive Credits when you level up in 2.0+ instead of Skill Points, simply because it would be impossible for you to upgrade your Star Cards any more.
Battle Points remain the same. You should earn Battle Points in the matches to unlock more powerful and special units. You earn Battle Points for everything you do in combat. Spend them between respawns to call in reinforcements, like vehicles and powerful special characters. Use them to become a hero in ground combat or pilot a Hero Ship in Starfighter Assault. Here are a few examples of how you can earn Battle Points.
Here’s a quick list of available ways for you to earn Battle Points:
- Defeating your enemies – both NPC controlled units and real players.
- Protect your team – in some situations, you’ll earn Battle Points for protecting and supporting your squad.
- Supply your allies – buffing your teammates will gain you Battle Points, but you cannot over-exploit this InGame.
- Completing objectives – probably the biggest chunk of your Battle Points will come from completing the mission objectives.
