Hasbro reveals new Star Wars Black Series and Vintage Collection for 2022 and 2023

Yesterday was Star Wars Day! And that means we got a ton of new announcements about upcoming Star Wars merchandise. This time, we’re going to talk about what Hasbro have planned for us!

Hasbro is a long-time Star Wars partner, being some of the first, if not the first company to mass-produce lightsabers and helmets that are accurate to what we’ve seen in the movies and shows. Also, their Black Series figures are some of the most collected and beloved pieces among the fans.

Today, we have new announcements for the upcoming releases, here’s everything they showed.

A nostalgia trip

Starting with the Retro figures, a revisit of the first figures from 1978 made by Kenner. Released in a box set that includes six of the twelve original figures. This pack will certainly be something that nostalgic fans will love to display.

The pack includes Han Solo, Chewbacca, Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, and a Stormtrooper. Each detail, articulation, paint job, and packaging was made to inspire nostalgia, and I think they nailed it.

The next one is the Black Series Leia Organa with her Ewok Village outfit. Perhaps this isn’t what most of us picture when thinking about Leia, but for some of her bigger fans, I’m sure this is an exciting surprise. Her hair and clothes look super cool and the Ewok spear is certainly a nice touch.

If you’ve been wanting to have Leia figures with all her different looks, this one is for you.

Now we just need Max Rebo

As mentioned on the previous Hasbro Pulse live stream, Figrin D’an joins the Black Series lineup. The leader of Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes is a male Bith that can liven up even the worst of the cantinas. His accessories include a Fanfar, Kloo Horn, and a Fizzz (Dorenian Beshniquel). Thanks to this, you can actually have the whole band if you buy a couple more.

“Hey, you can’t have the whole band just by buying 3 figures of Figrin D’an! You’re missing an instrument!” You’re absolutely right! Here’s Nalan Cheel to make it possible for you to recreate your favorite cantina scene. With interchangeable hands and various instruments, this figure is the ultimate complement of Figrin D’an.

200,000 units are ready, with a million more on the way

This one is something that probably few people expected, the 187th Batallion Clone Trooper. An elite trooper that served under Mace Windu. The color scheme is something never before seen in other clone troopers, something that certainly fits with Mace Windu’s unique purple lightsaber.

More love for Clone Trooper fans. The Vintage Collection Phase 1 Clone Trooper is here! Just like the other Trooper packs, this one includes a higher rank soldier, in this case, a Lieutenant. Distinguished by blue markings on his armor, is leading the other soldiers into battle. Accessories include four dc-15 blaster rifles and two heavy dc-15a rifles.

The last Clone Trooper for this announcement and my favorite one, 332nd Ahsoka’s Clone Trooper. Clone Wars season 7 has some of my favorite Star Wars moments and this was one of them. After leaving the Jedi Order, Ahsoka ends up returning to aid in the Siege of Mandalore.

Having fought side by side for many years, the clones showed her the appreciation and respect that the Jedi Order didn’t. With a unique pattern on the helmet that replicates Ahsoka’s markings, this trooper will stand out from the rest of your trooper figures.

Speaking of the Siege of Mandalore, it’s the Vintage Collection Mandalorian Super Commando. We’ll finally be able to recreate that epic battle with both parties and the respective heroes and villains.

Like the rest of the Mandalorian figures, it includes two blaster pistols and one carbine rifle. The hand marking on the helmet is such a cool detail!

A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one

Leaving the Clone Wars era behind, we get Anakin Skywalker with his Attack of the Clones appearance for the Vintage Collection. His lightsaber is unmistakable even in these photos.

An interchangeable mechanic hand can be swapped with his regular hand. I found this pretty hilarious and cool at the same time, Hasbro has been on point with these little but important details.

This next one is from my favorite series, Gaming Greats. From the amazing game Star Wars The Force Unleashed, one of the better-looking Stormtroopers joins the Vintage Collection.

The Stormtrooper Commander is a figure that lots of fans have been waiting for a long time. Its simple yet unique pattern made an instant impression on many of us, even if he was no match for Starkiller. I can’t wait to acquire it!

From Star Wars: Jedi: Fallen Order, the Heavy Assault Stormtrooper also joins the Gaming Greats Vintage Collection. With a rotary heavy cannon that incorporates an energy shield, this Stormtrooper could be very obnoxious to face. This figure is going to look very good in photos or displayed.

From the Mandalorian Season 1, the main security enforcer of the New Republic gets its debut on the Black Series. The New Republic Security Droid was created from scratch by the Hasbro team. Even though it is simple looking, I can’t deny that it looks pretty menacing with that dark grey color.

This is where the fun begins

For the grand finale, we got two items. The first one is a new Black Series Darth Vader helmet. Made to match his look in the Obi-Wan Kenobi Series. A re-sculpted neckpiece, a dark metallic grey color decor, and premier sound effects are some of the updates on the helmet.

It definitely looks very cool, but I’m not sure I dig the color difference between the top piece of the helmet and the rest of it, perhaps it’s just the lighting of their studio. What are your thoughts about it?

The last item of the stream is the Obi-Wan Kenobi Force Fx Elite lightsaber. Also made to match the look of the one shown in the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series. I think it is absolutely beautiful and super detailed. Progressive ignition, removable blade, and battle clash effects are some of the features included in every Force Fx Elite lightsaber.

For the first time, Hasbro is introducing a “Duel effect” that simulates a battle with another lightsaber wielder, as well as a “Battle sequence” that plays a pre-programmed sequence of effects to replicate what being in an intense battle would be like. Their plan is to include these features in future lightsabers.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi lightsaber includes a stand and an additional display emitter piece. I don’t own any lightsabers from Hasbro, but this might be the first one I get.

Last month Hasbro announced a few new Star Wars Black Series toys. If you have missed that initial announcement, correct that mistake and check the news report I did on it.

What do you think about these new products? Are you getting any of them? If so, which ones?
