The SWTOR Public Test Server has been launched with a good chunk of what’s to come in SWTOR 7.4 As of this first round of patches, you will have access to daily missions, 340 implants, a chance to fight the world boss, and explore Kessan’s Landing on Ord Mantell!
SWTOR 7.4 News and Accessing the PTS
In SWTOR 7.4, players will be able to revisit Ord Mantell to see the new daily area, Kessan’s Landing.
With the first round of PTS, players will have access to some of the features that will be introduced into 7.4. Though due to the in-development nature of PTS content, there are bound to be missing features and bugs that can be resolved in following patches.
If you haven’t already, check out our coverage of the 7.4 SWTOR Livestream! A brief summary of what’s to come will be here, though if you want all the details check out that article.
If you want to check out the PTS for yourself, see our SWTOR PTS Download and Character Copy Guide!
Kessan’s Landing Daily Area Missions and Reputation Vendor
One of the first things you can do in the PTS is test out the new daily missions at Kessan’s Landing. This will have you perform actions where you’ll need to avoid deadly lava flows, fight the semi-sentient Savrip species, and against Separatist forces that still seek to liberate Ord Mantell from the Republic.
To access the daily missions, you can use the daily mission board near the landing zone you spawn in at. The rewards are fairly standard with daily missions granting reputation items, tech fragments, and a chest for the weeklies.
The PTS has some of these missions granting the retired Daily Resource Matrix currency, it is unlikely that will be added in the live 7.4 update.
As for the reputation items, everything is priced at 1 million credits or lower. These prices may be subject to change once 7.4 hits the live servers. There are some odd things going on here, however.
The Mantellian Support Armor Set appears to look exactly like the Ruhnuk Wanderer Armor Set from the Ruhnuk Daily Area. It’s likely that the new armor set is still in development and this is just a placeholder set until the real Mantellian Support set is ready to share.
UPDATE 11/03/2023
With the third set of patches being a rather small one, we finally get to see what the Mantellian Support Armor Set looks like. This set requires the various ranks to purchase from the vendor in the PTS, ranging from Newcomer rank to Legend Rank. Since this is still in the PTS, these rank requirements may be subject to change upon release.
Each piece of the Mantellian Support Armor costs 750,000 credits each, so you’re looking at 5,250,000 credits for the whole set.
As seen previously in the 7.4 Livestream, players with enough reputation can purchase the Mantellian Hover Turret for 1 million credits.
One thing we didn’t see in the 7.4 Livestream is the addition of a new pet, the Woodland Nexu. This little guy is far from fully grown and is a great addition to any cat lovers. This costs 1 million credits to purchase from the reputation vendor/
Last, there are two new titles that sell for 1 million credits a piece. These are the “Heavy Artillery” and “Mantellian Defender” titles.
Kessan’s Landing World Boss: FR3-D0M
If you have enough manpower, you’ll be able to take on the FR3-D0M world boss in Kessan’s Landing. You can get a mission at the mission board to get some rewards for defeating it. It is found inside an arena in the northwest area of Kessan’s Landing.
340 Implants and New Implant Achievement
If you’re looking to get a hold of the 340 Legendary Implants, you can do so by talking to a vendor near your faction’s landing area. Each implant sells for 1 credit with another vendor nearby sells augments and augment kits.
In the 7.4 PTS, the comparisons for 334 and 340 implants are as follows:
- Tank Implants (Shield and Absorb) add +75 Mastery, +105 Endurance, +35 Defense Rating and Tertiary Stats.
- DPS Implants (Critical and Alacrity) add +72 Mastery, +88 Endurance, +58 Power, +37 Tertiary Stats.
These numbers may not be final and are subject to change as with all things in the PTS.
Implant Destiny: 340 Achievement
Despite being in the “Retired Achievements”, Implant Destiny 330 and 334 still work just fine in the live version of SWTOR. When you get two Legendary implants with item ratings 330 or 334 equipped on one character, all future upgrades across your legacy will be discounted.
The costs for upgrading legendary implants goes from 6,500 Tech Fragments to 2,500 Tech Fragments up to the item rating of the achievement you unlocked.
In the 7.4 PTS, there appears to be the Implant Destiny: 340 achievement. It will appear with the Retired Achievements under “Advancement”.
If this makes it to the live version of 7.4, you can save a lot of time and tech fragments by upgrading your implants on one character up to 340 then focus on any secondary implants. It is unknown at this time if the upgrade discounts will remain the same in 7.4 live.
Galactic Trade Network UI 7.4 Changes
The GTN is currently unavailable to use for this PTS patch and is slated to be functional in Patch #2 for the 7.4 PTS.
While nonfunctional at the moment, you can still take a look at the GTN and its new UI. Here are some much better screenshots of the new UI as opposed to the view shown in the 7.4 Livestream.
As stated before, the new maximum GTN duration for a sale is now 7 days. This will be useful for goods that are in less demand and less prone to price fluctuation, such as crafting goods.
Meanwhile, you may want to keep an eye on the prices of hot commodities and keep the durations of those commodities shorter to stay competitive.
Ord Mantell Starting Area Texture Updates
As with Voss during the 7.3 expansion introducing Interpreter’s retreat, Ord Mantell base textures are getting an update along with its new daily area. Some of these are rather significant, some more subtle, and others non-existant.
The pathways in the habited sectors got a significant change. It was more blurry and muddied out before, but is now more sharp and full of detail.
The flora textures are getting updated as well. The grass looks taller and cleaner, while the bark on trees looks more like bark than a brown blur. Unfortunately, it appears that we’ll be losing some of the flower textures from the grass. Rock faces has more depth to it, one can’t forget the rocks.
In this area, you can’t see any significant changes at the taxi platform. The only noticeable difference is on the metal linings on the pathways. They appear more of a reddish hue than the live version, and the bark on the tree looks better. Other than that, not much changed.
Cartel Market Armor Sets, Chrome White/Metallic Gold Dye, and a New Toy
As seen in the livestream, players will have access to new armor sets from the Cartel Market. The most notable of which is the Suppressor Trooper Armor Set, as it has built-in specular dyes with metallic black and pearlescent red. There is also the Defiant Maverick armor set inspired by Sabine Wren, and a couple PvP Season 5 sets.
Suppressor Trooper Armor Set
The first armor set SWTOR fans will be eager to purchase is no doubt, the Suppressor Trooper Armor set. This is reminiscent of the Imperial Death Troopers as seen in Rogue One, The Mandalorian, and Star Wars: Rebels. It features the default colors being Metallic Black with Pearlescent Red.
This is the Suppressor Trooper Armor Set with the Chrome White and Metallic Gold Dye.
If you’re wondering how the Suppressor Trooper Armor Set with a blue and purple dye set. While it appears flat in the character window, the armor applies the specularity effects to old dyes!
Defiant Maverick Armor Set
This set is inspired by Sabine Wren’s armor set from Star Wars: Rebels and Ahsoka. While the devs shared how it looks good with dyes on the livestream, they failed to show it with dyes. Fortunately I had a spare dye in my personal cargo hold that was copied onto PTS, so we’re able to take a look!
This is what the set would look like with a Chrome White and Metallic Gold dye. More distinct and bright colors suit this armor set better as it helps everything pop out more.
Cunning Plunderer Armor Set
The devs said in the 7.4 Livestream that we’re able to preview upcoming armor from future PvP seasons. As usual, there are two sets that can be earned from PvP seasons. The first one is the more mundane of the two, the Cunning Plunderer Armor Set.
Outlaw Battler Armor Set
This is the second armor set you can earn from PvP Season 5. It’s the same as the Cunning Plunderer, but it has some glowing bits and a slightly different color.
This armor set doesn’t work too well with dyes. Here is how the set looks with the Chrome White and Metallic Gold dye. The chest and a good chunk of the pants are not affected by dyes.
Ancient Star Map Toy
This toy is the type that will restore your hit points over 15 seconds. Your character pulls out an orb that projects a holomap. Your character then looks around at the map in awe. This is obviously a reference to the map seen in the Ahsoka show.
Overall Thoughts
So far, things are looking good. As stated in the livestream, the Devs have plans for SWTOR 7.5 and 7.6 in 2024 so hopefully we’ll get to revisit older planets. Ideally, these would be new (and perhaps more familiar) planets in SWTOR.
The addition of Implant Destiny: 340 is a great start for players with many alts to gear up. While its addition may be subject to change, it wouldn’t hurt to stock up on tech fragments and other late-game currencies in preparation for 7.4.
