As of 7.5.1, Broadsword has moved away from livestream reward codes in favor of Twitch Drops. We’ll cover how to start earning Twitch Drops in SWTOR, and what items you can earn by watching said livestreams.
Table of contents
What are Twitch Drops
Twitch Drops are in-game cosmetic rewards granted to you for watching streams for specific games on channels participating in the Drops Program on Twitch.tv! Each Twitch Drop has a watch time requirement set by the game developer.
By watching a participating channel while logged into the Twitch.tv account associated with your game account, your time will be counted towards earning the current cosmetic reward for the associated game.
Using SWTOR as an example, you can earn decos and mounts for watching 1-4 hours of SWTOR livestreams from participating streamers on Twitch. Check the comments for links from participating Twitch channels.
How to link your SWTOR Account to your Twitch Account to earn Twitch Drops
This step-by-step guide below will show you how to link your SWTOR Account to your Twitch Account so you can start earning Twitch Drops.
Instructions
- Login to your SWTOR Account.
You'll first need to go to SWTOR.com and click the "Account" button at the upper right of the page. Log in using your password (and security key if you have it) to access your account details. - In your Account Page, click on "Twitch Account".
Open the Overview Page for your account and click at the bottom right of the first segment on the button "Twitch Account". - Click on "Link Accounts".
You'll get a small window stating there is no Twitch account linked to your SWTOR account. Click the Link Account button to continue. - Authorize Twitch to access your SWTOR Account.
After clicking the Link Account button, you'll be redirected to a Twitch authorization page if you already have a Twitch account and are logged in. If you do not have a Twitch account, you will need to make one. Click the Authorize button. - Receive a notification that the accounts are linked.
After some loading, your Twitch Account should be linked to your SWTOR account and you'll be redirected back to your SWTOR Account page. The top of the window will say "Your Twitch account was successfully linked!".
Notes
Twitch Drops are earned by watching participating streamers. Twitch Drops are not random. You always know how long you have to watch content to earn the reward you are after. Sometimes availability may be restricted. The SWTOR developers do not restrict you which SWTOR content you should watch to earn that time, as long as it's listed in the Star Wars: The Old Republic category and the streamer is participating.
SWTOR Twitch Drop Types
There are 2 types of Twitch Drop rewards for SWTOR. The first coincides with game update livestreams while the second coincides with major and minor update releases.
Update Livestream Decos
We’ll still get the Stronghold Decorations (SH Decos) we used to get with codes, but in order to get them, you’ll have to watch an hour of SWTOR streams within 2 weeks of each dev update livestream.
Let’s look at the reward for the 7.6 Update Livestream as an example. If you watch 1 hour of SWTOR streaming on your SWTOR-linked Twitch Account between November 14th and November 28th, 2024, you will get the Poster: Ilum (Purple Frame) Deco on in the mail on each of your toons when 7.6 drops.
The frame will likely remain the same for each livestream, but the “poster” will be different. The purple and gunmetal colors are pretty provocative, but it will look great on the Umbara Train, Imperial Fleet Penthouse, Mek-Sha Hideout, and Dromund Kaas Strongholds.
As a note for Broadsword, I hope future decos continue to be more usable like this one. There’s a natural-looking blur that makes it look more like a painting painting instead of a screenshot or pure concept art like we see with past livestream rewards and the Best View in SWTOR contest.
Game Update Mounts
Immediately after each game update, you’ll also get a mount if you watch 5 hours of SWTOR on Twitch while logged into your SWTOR-linked Twitch Account within 4 weeks of the update releasing.
Again, we can look at the 7.6 reward as an example. If you watch 5 hours of SWTOR streaming on Twitch using your SWTOR-linked Twitch Account within 4 weeks after the release of Update 7.6, you will receive the Amethyst Vulptilla mount. The dates are likely December 10th, 2024, to January 7th, 2025.
They plan to alternate between vehicle and creature mounts, with the current system resulting major updates providing creature updates while minor updates offer vehicle mounts. I strongly suspect they’ll all be purple reskins of existing mounts.
How to earn SWTOR Twitch Drops as a Viewer
When you are watching a SWTOR live stream from someone, you must be mindful if the streamer has Twitch Drops enabled. This is something that you have no control over as a viewer.
When you click on a livestream to start watching, check if they have enabled Twitch Drops. If they haven’t, you will not be earning “time watched” towards the Twitch Drop you are chasing. A Drops callout will be displayed at the top of the chat tab that includes information about the Drops campaign.
You must be logged in to your connected Twitch Account while watching Drops-enabled streams to earn the available Twitch Drops. Watching several streams on several Browser tabs will not increase your time.
To check your progress towards a Drop, navigate to your Drops Inventory page. When you get to 100%, you will get a notification for complete progress on this Twitch Drop and you can then claim it.
How to enable Twitch Drops as a Streamer
As a Streamer, you must enable Twitch Drops to start participating in the available campaigns. To do that, open your Creator Dashboard, navigate to Viewer Rewards and activate Twitch Drops.
This will allow your community to start earning Twitch Drops while watching your content.
If you have enabled Twitch Drops for SWTOR, we encourage you to link your channel in the comments!
