SWTOR Update 7.6d Changes Overview

Endonae by Endonae|

SWTOR Update 7.6d is coming on January 24th, 2025 with a bunch of bug fixes, particularly for Dynamic Encounters and the Remote Trading Post Deco Bundle, and a new bad luck prevention system for the Propagator Core!

How game updates work in SWTOR

Game updates in SWTOR are pretty consistent and predictable these days. SWTOR’s update schedule features alternating major and minor updates released roughly every three months. We will typically get 2 story updates, 2 Galactic Seasons, and 2 PvP Seasons per year.

Expansions are released every few years for free to subscribers and are denoted by the first number in the build version (5.0, 6.0, 7.0, etc.).

Major updates always contain solo story content and mark the beginning of a new PvP Season. The second number in the build version denotes major updates (7.1, 7.2, 7.3, etc.).

Minor updates contain a new Galactic Season, which is SWTOR’s Battle Pass system. They also include bug fixes and sometimes smaller features. The third number in the build version denotes minor updates (7.1.1, 7.2.1, 7.3.1, etc.).

Lettered patches (7.1a, 7.1b, 7.2a, 7.3.1c, etc.) are hotfixes for their associated major or minor update. They are typically meant to fix an immediate issue that was discovered after the update was released.

Notable Changes

The changs with 7.4d are mostly bug fixes, though there is a new system coming that will mitigate bad luck with loot drops, and Broadsword did comment on the character modernizations.

Bad Luck Prevention System

It seems the Second Coming of RNGesus is upon us as Broadsword is introducing a simple toon-based counter system to prevent repeated bad luck with randomized loot drops.

The Bad Luck Prevention System keeps track of how many times your toon has not won a piece of loot protected by said system. Once the counter reaches its maximum or you win the item naturally, you are guaranteed to get the drop and the counter resets.

The counter is unique for each character and source of loot, and it does not apply automatically to all loot in the game. It is only applied on a case-by-case basis. In addition, the counter does not affect loot drop chance beyond guaranteeing it after a set number of clears, like a punch card.

The Bad Luck Prevention System (henceforth known as BLPS, pronounced blips) is first being deployed for the new augment schematics that drop from Propagator Core XR-53 in the following way:

  • In Story Mode players are guaranteed to see an augment schematic drop from Propagator after 12 clears if one has not dropped for them.
  • In Veteran Mode, players are guaranteed to see an augment schematic after 7 clears if one has not dropped for them.

They plan to apply it to other sources of loot, again, on a case-by-case basis, but they want to make sure the system is working properly before doing so. They can’t apply it to everything because it can impact game performance, so they’re going to focus on unique drops from Operations and Flashpoints.

Bryant Wood, one of SWTOR’s Systems Designers, laid out all the details in a couple of posts on the official forums.

Hey players!

Upcoming in patch 7.6d, we will be adding a new system that changes the way loot is given out in SWTOR, aimed at reducing the horrible Curse of Bad Luck.

What is it?
Our Bad Luck Prevention system allows us to track the rewards obtained from boss drops or chests and gives us the ability to modify drop chances based on how many times players didn’t receive the protected items.

How does it work?
When you collect loot from sources we check the incoming item to see if it is one of the bad luck protected items. If it is not, we increase our counter that you have completed a run and not received the protected item. After a set number of attempts, we make sure one of the protected items is rewarded.

Where will it be used?
This system does not automatically apply to all loot in SWTOR, it has to be hooked up to each specific loot case. With the upcoming patch we are going to be applying the bad luck prevention to augment schematics obtained from the Relentless Replication Lair Boss. Here’s how bad luck prevention will be applied:

  • On Story Mode, players are guaranteed to see an augment schematic after 12 runs if it has not dropped.
  • On Veteran Mode, players are guaranteed to see an augment schematic after 7 runs if it has not dropped.

The regular drop chances for the augment schematics aren’t going to change with the introduction of bad luck prevention, and we expect most players to obtain a schematic before the 12th and 7th runs respectively. This system is to ensure players don’t run into situations where the schematics don’t drop after many attempts.

Also note that these instances of bad luck prevention are completely separate from each other. Your runs of Story Mode will not impact your drop chances or bad luck prevention from Veteran Mode, and vice versa.

Is the system tracked per character or per account?
The Bad Luck Prevention system is tracked per character. Each individual character will have their own tracking counter.

Does the counter reset after I receive the item?
When the protected item is received the tracking counter will reset. This will happen if you naturally loot the item or if you reach the bad luck prevention limit. So your 2nd, 3rd, and 10th drop will all be protected by bad luck prevention.

What about <insert your favorite item or piece of content here>?
As mentioned above, bad luck prevention has to be applied to each item or group of items separately. We will be monitoring the system and collecting your feedback to make sure it continues to work as intended before we start rolling it out to more loot in SWTOR. Because this additional tracking can have an impact on game performance we won’t be applying it to every source of loot, but will start with a focus on unique drops from Operations and Flashpoints.

Gotta jet! I have a big collection of lucky charms and tea leaves to clean out, I won’t be needing them anymore!

Hey everyone,

Jumping back in to add clarification to some questions that have popped up! I’ll update the original post as well.

Dynamic Encounters Bug Fixes

Many of the bugs associated with specific Dynamic Encounters have been fixed. However, it does not appear that they have addressed the issue where some Dynamic Encounters do not contribute to associated Mission: Dynamic Encounters Infinite and Pinnacle Conquest Objectives.

7.6d Dynamic Encounters

The Hidden Chain Lieutenant that you face off against at the end of the Hidden Chain Invasions on Tatooine has also been buffed. It doesn’t seem like the fight has become more complicated, just that it was easier on Tatooine than the other planets.

Hopefully, the BLPS will be coming for the Hidden Chain armor set in the near future so the set doesn’t cost an arm and a leg!

Remote Trading Outpost Deco Bundle Fixes

Many bugs with the Comlink missions in the new Remote Trading Outpost Deco Bundle have been fixed, alongside a couple of issues with the pair of mini pets you get for finishing said missions.

7.6d Remote Trading Post

I’m not particularly fond of the neglected versions outside of maybe Rishi, but the bundle has some great (refurbished) decos in it and, overall, provides a pretty great value for 2500 CC.

The prospect of Batuu, the canon location of Disneyland and Walt Disney World’s Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge, coming to SWTOR is also super exciting. I explore this idea in more depth along with the future of SWTOR in 2025 in my recap of the Q4 Executive Producer Letter.

Regarding the Character Appearance Modernizations

Broadsword is only addressing one bug related to character faces and bodies with 7.6d. They’re fixing Cyborg beards so they no longet turn metallic red.

A vocal portion of the community remains irate, so Jackie Ko, SWTOR’s Senior Community Manager, posted the following on the forums today:

Hey everyone,

Wanted to let you know that we do have character modernization updates that are coming and we will be going over those in an upcoming livestream that we are targeting for February. When we have more details to share on the exact date, I’ll make an announcement post.

For those of you who couldn’t find another, similar face that looked how you wanted during the 90% character appearance change discount, I encourage you to check out my examination of 7.6 Cyborg Faces. I believe they show why you’re unhappy and what Broadsword could do about it.
