SWTOR Update 7.7.1b Changes Overview

Vulkk by Vulkk|

An unusually large for a lettered hotfix Update 7.7.1b to SWTOR brings Subscriber Only Log In Rewards, Mission and UI fixes and various other bug fixes.

How game updates work in SWTOR

Game updates in SWTOR are pretty consistent and predictable these days. SWTOR’s update schedule features alternating major and minor updates released roughly every three months. We will typically get 2 story updates, 2 Galactic Seasons, and 2 PvP Seasons per year.

Expansions are released every few years for free to subscribers and are denoted by the first number in the build version (5.0, 6.0, 7.0, etc.).

Major updates always contain solo story content and mark the beginning of a new PvP Season. The second number in the build version denotes major updates (7.1, 7.2, 7.3, etc.).

Minor updates contain a new Galactic Season, which is SWTOR’s Battle Pass system. They also include bug fixes and sometimes smaller features. The third number in the build version denotes minor updates (7.1.1, 7.2.1, 7.3.1, etc.).

Lettered patches (7.1a, 7.1b, 7.2a, 7.3.1c, etc.) are hotfixes for their associated major or minor update. They are typically meant to fix an immediate issue that was discovered after the update was released.

Notable Changes

For a lettered patch, this one has one very interesting new feature and the usual number of fixes and improvements.

Subscriber Only Log In Rewards

This new “event” was first teased during the 7.7.1 livestream. Now we know more details about it. Starting September 9th, for three months, until December 9th, active subscribers will have a chance to earn unique tokens and redeem rewards at a special vendor.

Items List

The list of rewards is gameplay-focused and will include the following items:

  • Endgame Gear
  • Augment Materials
  • Unique XP Boosts
  • Crafting Boosts
  • And more!

How to earn the tokens?

This event, or “system” if you prefer, works in a similar way to the already existing Daily Log In Rewards program available in the game. To earn tokens, you need to be an active subscriber and log in at least four times per week.

Missing crit path now present in Eras

Some crit path missions were missing from the Eras window. If you were previously unable to start the Rise of the Hutt Cartel story, you can now pick up the necessary Ilum missions from the Eras tab directly.

SWTOR-Eras-Window-7.7

The Eras tab was added to the game with Update 7.7. Its goal is to help new players or returning veterans find their place in the story progression easier.

Bessie now waits patiently for you to do your Warzones

When the Basilisk Droid (B3-S1) is your temporary companion, its timer will not count down while you are in a Warzone or Arena.

Extended downtime

Broadsword is deploying Game Server Database upgrades. This will force an extended downtime during the maintenance tomorrow, on September 9th. The expected duration is 8 hours.

As usual, it is possible that we may see the servers go back online sooner, but the devs wanted to give a fair warning.

You’ll notice that we are starting a couple hours earlier than usual and the estimated downtime is longer than previous patch days. This patch will include various bug fixes, but there are Game Server Database upgrades that will also be included that require an extended maintenance window. We will, of course, be targeting to bring servers up earlier but we wanted to set expectations given how much time these upgrades will need.
