SWTOR 7.8c Patch Notes Overview

Endonae by Endonae|

SWTORโ€™s Game Update 7.8c releases on January 27th, 2026, and contains a slew of fixes for Wreckage on Dantooine, changes to the Mission Tracker UI, new CM items, and more!

SWTORโ€™s lettered patches (7.1a, 7.1b, 7.2a, 7.3.1c, etc.) primarily feature bug fixes for their associated major or minor update. They never contain new content or features and tend to release every 1-2 weeks within a month of the main update’s launch.

Since we just got through the winter holidays, it’s been a bit longer since the main update, Patch 7.8c comes about 7 weeks after the launch ofย Update 7.8 โ€œPursuit of Ruinโ€.

7.8c Patch Notes Overview

Noteworthy changes include a bunch of fixes for Wreckage on Dantooine, additional personalization for the Mission Tracker UI, several new CM items, a new Mac Launcher beta release, and a fix to a nearly decade-old bug.

Wreckage on Dantooine

There are a whole bunch of bug fixes for Wreckage on Dantooine content. They mostly pertain to problems with the Dynamic Encounters themselves, but there are fixes for other aspects of the content as well. Things like the G0-NK Droid Minipets not displaying correctly in the preview window have also been fixed.

They mention that the appearances of many GSI scientists have been updated, and I’m curious of that will include some wearing the Skirmishing Surveyor and Rugged Researcher sets.

I don’t know about you, but I always find it fun when I can get the outfit the NPCs are wearing from doing related content. The way FromSoftware does it where enemies can drop a piece of their clothing is awesome.

Regardless, the more distracting issue with scientist appearances is their common use of a lab coat featuring the Czerka logo on the back, despite these (supposedly) being GSI scientists with Czerka slinking around covertly.

In addition, they’re also adding proper Quick Travel points to the Dantooine Stronghold because it’s just so big. I hope they do the same for Rishi and Alderaan, though it would be nice if all SH Arrival Points just acted as QT points across the board.

While they have incorporated a lot of bug fixes for Wreckage on Dantooine, there’s still more they could do. We have a list at the end of the article of all bugs and issues that aren’t fixed with 7.8c.

Mission Tracker

There are some additional personalization options coming to the Mission Tracker aimed at improving readability and customization.

You’ll be able to change the font size and color for side quests, as well as background color and opacity.

These changes are particularly noteworthy because Broadsword doesn’t usually allow players to personalize the interface appearance like this. The only other place where you can adjust font size and colors is the Chat window.

It makes me wonder if we might see similar personalization settings made available for other UI elements, like game windows, in the future.

I wouldn’t get your hopes up too high, though. It’s probably just a freebie that was easy to include as part of the recent Mission Tracker redesign to incorporate Dynamic Encounters.

Cartel Market Additions

There’s a new armor set, lightsaber, and dualsaber coming to the Cartel Market Inspired Byโ„ข Star Wars: Visions.

We don’t have any pictures yet, but the cosmetics are called Shadow Sentry, likely referring to one of the characters from the recently released third season of the anthology show.

I’d wager the next big bucket of Inspired Byโ„ข items will focus on Maul: Shadow Lord show and The Mandalorian and Grogu, coming in April and May, respectively, shortly after the anticipated release window for 7.9.

New Mac Launcher Beta Release

There is a new beta release of the Mac Launcher that fixed an issue causing a black screen on game start.

High-Priority Operation Holoterminal Removed

Back in 4.0, then BioWare had a featured HM Operation that would rotate each week and NiM gear drops instead of HM. This gave less experienced players a way to get the best gear in the game without farming the same thing over and over and over again like Nefra and Hammer Station.

Once 5.0 came along, the gearing process was completely revamped around Galactic Command (later Renown) and the holoterminal showing the High-Priority Operation was removed so players could just sit outside Karagga’s Palace and farm the champion trash mobs for maximum CXP (later RXP) instead.ย

Anyway, that’s beside the point. The holoterminal was never properly removed and instead just made invisible, so players could still bump into it and even see the hologram sometimes.ย

Yeah, nobody cares, but it’s wild to see such an ancient bug get fixed after almost 10 whole years!

Unfixed Bugs with Wreckage on Dantooine

These issues with Wreckage on Dantooine were not mentioned in the patch notes, nor the official Known Issues. They may have been fixed anyway, but we’re pointing them out, nonetheless. The issues listed at the end are a little more subjective as to whether or not they’re truly bugs or just problems/feedback.

  • All Doctor Spores encounters do not reliably grant mission completion credit for everyone
  • [Gelid Tendrils] Massive Tendrils do not have a cast associated with their red conal knockback attack
  • [Glacial Reclamation] Requires you to fight and defeat 6 Champion enemies all at once, and they respawn quickly
  • [Lost Bormu] The Lost Bormu often loses its protective aura buff or gets knocked away right before the Shyrack Screecher casts Mind Shatter, making it completely unreliable as a source of protection against the attack.
  • [Orbital Core] CC immunities prevent all damage from G30-MN Mining Unit’s Mining Charges
  • [Orbital Core] Most AoE and DoT attacks are reflectable
  • [Orbital Core] When fighting Sporogenic Scouts, there is significant delay on the application of Horrible Spores after the purple circle disappears, massively reducing the time you have to move to safety before Mycelial Burst completes its cast
  • [Orbital Core] Spore-maddened Beasts do not reliably get defeated upon being knocked off the platform and one will eventually Evade if the other is knocked off
  • [Orbital Core] Can sometimes drop no loot and does not drop any gear or related currency (Rakata and OP-1 Catalysts are absolutely appropriate)
  • [Orbital Core] It is possible to stall out the fight indefinitely at various points, most notably against the Damaged Sporogenic Probe Droid and Orbital Core itself, allowing players to wait around for several minutes while cooldowns reset. Enrage-type mechanics are needed to prevent this.
  • [Sporefall] The Repulsor Pad on the second level causes the player to ricochet off a branch unless the player is positioned at exactly the right spot when getting launched
  • [Sporefall] The descent cable next to the Unknown Adrenals at the top of the Repulsor Pad canopy does not function
  • [Thermal Investigation] Thermophilic Scurriers remain in the area regardless of whether the encounter is active or not
  • [Taking Care of the Caretakers] There is a floating egg sack that spawns alongside the Caretaker Droid
  • [Unruly Nesters] The Electro Net box is not always clickable
  • [Under Pressure] Players can get locked out of interacting with the Mouse Droid console, preventing mission progress (may be faction-related)
  • [Unruly Nesters] Weaponized Runoff can automatically defeat Unruly Cryo-Nesters before you can capture them (add an achievement!)
  • The Glacial Trespass Diorama deco drops from Glacial Reclamation rather than Root Cause. The latter features the actual set piece depicted in the deco and makes more sense as a source.
  • Abilities that offer CC immunity do not prevent you from getting CC’d by enemy attacks (i.e. Entrench | Hunker Down, etc. does not work against Heat Implosion or Heat Explosion)
  • Purchasing any temporary Research Notes will remove buff from Biochem Stims (i.e. Advanced Kyrprax Proficient Stim MK-2) and vice versa
  • Numerous encounters have redundant objective count requirements to pick up a certain number of tools when you already have to use the tools on the temporary ability a certain number of times to complete the encounter
  • Numerous objective requirement counts do not match the number of available objectives:
    • [Gelid Tendrils] Requires you to smush 50 tentacles but only ~40 are available, forcing you to wait for them to respawn
    • [Unruly Nesters] Requires you to repair the fence 15 times, but there are only ~13 fence segments and they break again before you have a chance to repair all of them
    • [Glacial Reclamation] Enemies continue to respawn endlessly until you defeat the absurd required number of each type (3 droids, 3 crabs)
    • [Thermal Investigation] Thermophilic Scurriers and Superheated Crystals just respawn rather than completing
    • [Vent Sync Failure] Geo-Excision Units respawn continuously even after the Vents have been repaired
    • A full audit of recently released DEs is warranted, along with an update to internal dev procedure on DE creation
  • Cryogenic Saturation Protection does not prevent you from getting Frozen by the Cryosentinels. Yeah, it’s not a biome effect, but it’s the same element and would offer more value to the Hero+ version.
  • Most enemies engaged in active combat with players abruptly and immediately despawn upon DE completion. This is not limited to Wreckage on Dantooine.
  • Character Titles and Legacy Titles cannot be sold on the GTN or to vendors but can be traded or donated
  • The Fitted Rugged Researcher’s set cannot be traded or sold on the GTN
  • [They Call me Doctor Spores] and [Return of Doctor SPORES!] are identical missions for the Sporefall Transition Encounters
  • Buffs have extremely inconsistent durations and do not reliably persist through defeat. This is particularly problematic for reducing the difficulty of the Orbital Core fight.

The sheer volume of issues suggests we’ll need a 7.8d, and I expect we’ll get a pass on Orbital Core at least, but I also would not be surprised if Broadsword decides to move on from this piece of content altogether.
