Having trouble with the little minigame you have to play to catch that wild horse in Crimson Desert? This guide will explain how it works and what you need to do to win.

You’ll have to re-tame Damiane’s Britano horse at the beginning of Chapter V: Guest Unbidden, but you may want to tame a horse because you see one you like or are interested in obtaining another one.

Where to find Wild Horses

Wild horses aren’t nearly as common in Crimson Desert as they are in a game like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

They don’t roam around in as large of herds, so it’s practically impossible to go out and find a wild horse of a specific breed in the color you want color. You may eventually run into one by happenstance, but how long will that take?

You’ll often find small herds of wild horses near fresh water away from people, so check by the rivers outside of town.

Having trouble with the minigame of taming horses in Crimson Desert? This guide will explain how it works and what you need to do to win.

How to Tame Wild Horses

Stay crouched until you get relatively close to the horse and then sprint. You can catch them so long as you don’t run out of stamina and they don’t have enough time to make it up to a full gallop.

Press your Interact Button (E / X / ☐) to get on, and then you have to do a little minigame.

Using Controller

On controller, all you have to do is pull on the left stick in the opposite direction of wherever the horse’s head is pointing on your screen.

It might be easier if you point your camera so it’s top down, but otherwise, don’t move the camera at all.

Using Keyboard + Mouse

If you’re playing on mouse + keyboard, you may find it easier to focus on moving the camera rather than changing which buttons you’re pressing.

Instead of trying to press the correct WASD combo, just hold S and rotate the camera so the horse’s tail is always facing directly at the camera.

The Lasso Interface

The lasso interface that pops up is just a taming progress bar. Once the rope turns fully yellow, the horse is tamed, but you’ll get bucked if the bar turns fully red or you run out of Stamina.

Benefits of Taming Wild Horses

The main benefits of taming wild horses are that they don’t cost money, there’s no crime risk, and they get registered to you as soon as you tame them. The automatic registration means you don’t have to take them to a Stable before you can summon them as you would with a stolen horse.

Don’t forget to equip some horse armor on your brand new steed!

Now that you’ve successfully tamed a horse, do you know if it’s actually a good breed? Find out which horses are the fastest and strongest in our guide to everything you need to know about Horses in Crimson Desert.
