Requirements to unlock Black Tides
Black Tides is a free story quest for Assassin’s Creed Shadows from Update 1.1.11, the final content drop for Shadows. A pair of elite Templars known as the “Black Cross” has come to Japan to hunt Naoe and Yasuke. Before you can start this quest, you’ll need to do the following:
Complete Naoe’s and Yasuke’s Story
As you play through the main story for your hunt of the Shinbakufu, you’ll gain unique missions for Naoe and Yasuke. Completing their personal stories is the first step of unlocking Black Tides.
Complete “A Critical Encounter”
This post-launch quest has you meet a friend of Tomiko and Heiji, a man named Rufio. He is investigating a group that’s killing civilians to replace them with strangers. Completing this Critical Role crossover quest is required to start Black Tides.
Complete “A Puzzlement”
The last requirement to unlock Black Tides is to complete the comedic side quest, A Puzzlement. While you help a couple of idiots seek a better path in life outside of crime, you learn about some mysterious glyphs that holds ancient secrets.
How to start Black Tides
Once you’ve met the prerequisites, you’ll need to go Yuasa in southwest Kii. There you’ll find a bearded man with a black Templar cross talking to a group of children about some strange kanji that looks like those mysterious glyphs.
When you get close enough, a cutscene will play where Eamon introduces himself and is rather direct as to who he is and why he’s here. After the cutscene, you’ll unlock the Black Cross Objective Circle in the Objectives Menu.
This will begin your venture to finding out who these elite Templars are and what exactly they are seeking in Japan.
