Learn how to complete all the Black Tides quests in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The final story arc for Shadows introduces two elite Templars known as the Black Cross, and they are looking to eliminate Naoe and Yasuke along with other ulterior motives.

How to unlock and start Black Tides Storyline

Black Tides is the final story content drop that came with Assassin’s Creed Shadows Update 1.1.11. In order to unlock this story, you’ll need to complete the following:

How to Unlock Black Tides Story in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

A Disturbance in Kii

The introductory quest will have you going to Yuasa in southwestern Kii. There is a man named Eamon Hathaway that is talking to a group of children. When you get close enough to him, a cutscene will start. After the cutscene, you’ll receive the Target: Naoe and Target: Diogo Wall Decorations.

The “strange kanji” on Eamon’s paper look eerily similar to the strange Isu Glyphs from A Puzzlement. If you haven’t already found those glyphs, now is a good time to do so. Seriously, do it now instead of later.

Black Tides

A drunken ship captain who recently lost his ship provided transport for the Templars. You’ll need to question him for more information. Fortunately, he’s a short walk away from where you met Eamon.

The captain won’t give out information unless Yasuke plays a drinking game with him. You need to ask him questions and if it’s true, he’ll drink and vice versa for questions asked to Yasuke.

For the first two questions you ask him, your choice doesn’t matter as Yasuke will end up drinking for failing to get the truth from him. On the third question, you can ask if “The Templars are looking for a place“. This will get an answer from the captain and save Yasuke’s liver.

Regardless of which answers you’ve chosen, the end result is the same. The captain will make a pass at Naoe, get thrown out the door, and end up fighting her. Defeat the captain to start another cutscene where you encounter the Masked Killer.

Follow the blood trail to the west and go across the river. You’ll find a dead soldier next to a pair of ovens. The Masked Killer will then taunt you in the distance.

An open door on a nearby shed has some blood on it. Climb up the shed and follow the trail on the rooftops going northwest to the Yuasa Soy Sauce Brewery. Look for the large blood stains on the floor and wooden vat at the brewery.

Continue going northwest of the large blood stain to find a building with an open door. Inside is a dead dog where the Masked Killer will taunt you again.

Follow the blood trail on the rooftops going east. Swing across the grapple point on the rooftops and you’ll find a crying girl below. Go to her to start a cutscene and complete the quest.

Double-Crossed

The first portion of Double-Crossed is very straight forward. Investigate the wreckage then dive for the three chests in search of the documents. Open the two chests in front of the ship first as they contain a good amount of upgrade materials. The chest furthest away and behind the ship holds the Templar’s documents.

After finding the documents, you’ll play as Yasuke and fight the Masked Killer, Nirmala. All of her attacks are unblockable and apply Bleed Buildup. She’s dangerous but equipping the Protector’s Armor will make short work of her.

Upon defeating Nirmala, you’ll fight her again along with Eamon. Regardless if you “win” the fight or lose, the same cinematic plays where Yasuke ends up gravely wounded. Explore Yasuke’s memories, defeat Shadow Yasuke, and you’ll complete the quest after watching the cutscenes.

Buried Secrets

After the cutscenes from Double-Crossed, Naoe and Rufino will be in the Isu structure. Follow the path and platform across using any ledges with glowing yellow edges. When you reach the Force Field, step onto the panels with Rufio to open it. Remember the shape of the panel’s glyph.

Nirmala will attack you and you’ll need to reach her. Use cover to avoid her arrows and don’t step on any glyph panels that doesn’t look like the one mentioned previously. Stepping on the other panels will activate booby traps that give you less than a second to dodge.

After chasing down Nirmala, you’ll fight her one on one. She’s not an interesting fight as she has a lot of health while dealing strong damage. Due to her bleed buildup and strong attacks, it’s better to weave in and out to attack her.

Alternatively, use the Kusarigama for this fight. Keep your distance when she attacks and slap her with the kusarigama’s chain from a safe distance. A kusarigama with a bleed or poison buildup will help wear down her massive health bar sooner.

Once defeated, Eamon will join the fight for a 2v1. Like with Yasuke, “winning” or losing will result in the same cutscene playing after the fight. After said cutscene, Yasuke joins the fight to help defeat the Templars.

After being defeated, a cutscene will play where Eamon expositions a bit, regardless if he still has his limbs or not. Once the cutscene is over, the quest will be over and thus ends the final Assassin’s Creed Shadows main story arc.

You’ll receive a message from MOD letting you know about a special little challenge made for you. If you crave more difficult combat scenarios, then accept MOD’s offer to partake in Domains!

Once the quest is completed, you’ll receive the Queen Cobra, Hathaway Family Sword, Nirmala’s Headwrap, Nirmala’s Robes, Crusader Helm, Crusader Tunic, Shattered Beacon Amulet/Trinket, Animal Carving Amulets/Trinkets, and their various Legendary Engravings.

Rewards

The rewards you’ll earn throughout this story arc are nothing to scoff at. Along with some bugged wall decorations, you’ll also receive powerful gear and their engravings.

Target: Naoe and Target: Diogo Wall Decorations

The first set of rewards are earned after completing A Disturbance in Kii. You’ll gain the two target posters Eamon had of Naoe and Yasuke as wall decorations. Unfortunately, I cannot give you a preview of these as they are bugged and not appearing in my list of wall decorations for the hideout.
