Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 releases its final trailer

Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 releases on October 20, Netflix just released a final trailer that teases how brutal it is going to be.

Before getting into the breakdown, we need a bit of context to put all the pieces together and try to figure out something about what’s happening in the trailer.

First, I need to emphasize that this story does not appear to be related to the first Edgerunners. So far, there have been no hints or teasers that the characters or their stories are related to David Martinez, Lucy, Adam Smasher, or any of the other characters we met in the first season.

Speaking of characters, it looks like these four characters will be working together and also be the main protagonists of this season. It’s hard to learn anything about them just from the trailer, but thankfully, CDPR has released a small bit of info about each one of them. Here’s what we know so far.

Weak

Weak used to be known as “King”, a veteran edgerunner who was among the top of his craft. He lives in the shadow of his former glory.

D

D is a Snake Nation netrunner with sharp technical skills and a hunger for revenge. He’s looking for the killer who killed his clan.

Roman

Roman Carax is a very young cinephile looking for stories on an abandoned city that was used for Braindance filming. He is obsessed with “documenting truth”, but we all know that the truth in Night City is often brutal and very raw.

Talia

Talia is a woman who was raised in a corporate environment and later embraced Maeltrom’s chrome-obsessed culture. Due to her involvement with this gang, she’s more than used to extreme violence.

Like other Edgerunner trailers, this is very chaotic and doesn’t provide much context about what’s going on. However, that doesn’t make it impossible to interpret some of it. The most evident thing is the fact that all characters appear at least once in a moment where they are in pain or simply terrified.

This is a repeated theme, and considering that we’re talking about Night City, it’s fair to assume that this city has witnessed how these people’s lives have gone south. Revenge, anguish, pain, violence, corporate overlords, and cyberpsychosis are some of the things that make Night City so iconic for the wrong reasons.

At some point in the trailer, you can see Talia, Weak, D, and Roman go through some horrible moments. In other series, you could expect to watch a story about redemption and overcoming the past, but if Cyberpunk 2077 and Edgerunners have taught us something, it’s that there are no happy endings in Night City.

Especially when a new corporation is heavily involved. Kang Tao Corporation, to be precise. Kang Tao Corporation is one of the largest weapons manufacturers with a reputation for being just as evil as Arasaka. Leaving moral judgements aside, Kang Tao is unrivaled when it comes to creating Smart-class weaponry.

What makes Kang Tao’s role in the series interesting isn’t just the fact that this company can rival both Militech and Arasaka, but that Talia’s parents are heavily involved in this corporation.

We already know that D is searching for revenge, Weak wants to regain his former status, and Roman is looking for the best stories to record, but I think that the most interesting thing will be seeing Talia’s relationship with his corpo parents, the Maelstroms, and the other protagonists.

Expect our upcoming guides, which will cover Edgerunners locations, builds, weapons, and easter eggs!
