Complete and detailed guide to all Star Wars: Battlefront 2 Multiplayer Modes. A great place to learn all you need to know (and more!) before you join your friends on the battlefront.
GENERAL OVERVIEW
EA has stepped up their game this time and Star Wars Battlefront II is much bigger and better than the first game from 2015. With over 14 locations to explore in various single and multiplayer modes across all 3 Star Wars eras, Battlefront II aims to offer the ultimate Star Wars experience.
Let’s begin with a general overview of the Multiplayer in the game and what is available in terms of modes, rewards, classes etc.
CLASSES AND VEHICLES
Star Wars Battlefront II introduces multiplayer classes for each and every single one of the multiplayer modes. There will be different classes for the ground fights as well as for the starship battles.
CLASSES
Here are the 4 available ground classes:
- Officer – Officers make their teammates better. They wield special skills to buff Troopers, lock down enemy positions with automated blasters, and strengthen their allies. This is a healing class.
- Assault Trooper – Fast, tough, and very effective at close-to-medium range, Assault Troopers clear the path for teammates and punch their way through enemy lines.
- Heavy Trooper – The Heavy takes territory and dominates it, providing the foundation for a team position.
- Specialist – Specialists employ deadly traps to harry enemy forces, reveal battlefield intelligence to their comrades, and snipe at enemies with long-distance weaponry.
Each class has 1 default weapon, unlocked by default. Through gameplay you can unlock 3 additional weapons for each class that can be upgraded with mods. Learn more here: Star Wars Battlefront 2 Weapons Guide

HEROES
Star Wars Battlefront II will allow you to play with many different Hero Characters. They are stronger in every way than the regular 4 classes. Hero Characters are unlocked with Battle Points.
For more information on the available Heroes in the game, read this: Star Wars Battlefront II Heroes and Villains and their Abilities
SPECIAL CHARACTERS
Special characters are a new unique feature to the 2nd game. They stand between the regular troopers and Hero class characters andcome equipped with potent weapons and powerful abilities. Some, like the Clone Jumptrooper can rocket over the heads of enemies to take them from behind. Others, like the Death Trooper can deploy deadly devices like the spectacular Sonic Imploder. Special characters typically appear on maps where their presence is thematically appropriate. You’ll encounter First Order Flametroopers on Starkiller Base, but you’re not likely to see them on Theed.
Battlefront II will give you a chance to pilot a wide variety of vehicles both on land and in space. Many will return from the first game and new ones will be added. The major difference is that to pilot a vehicle in Multiplayer you will now need Battle Points (a new InGame currency – read about it further in this guide), instead of getting them as a random Power-Up somewhere on the map. Some of the vehicles will feature seamless transition instead of directly spawning you as a ship. That will, however, only be available for the smaller models.

STAR CARDS
The collectibles called Star Cards have also been reworked from the ground up. You’ll get Star Cards by leveling up through gameplay in Star Wars Battlefront II. Cards come in a variety of rarities, with each tier reflecting a corresponding adjustment in power level. You’ll earn Skill Ppoints, which you can spend to unlock or upgrade Star Cards as you play, opening new creative options for configuring your favorite classes and characters. Learn more about the New Progression System here.
Classes can be outfitted with different Star Cards as well, and different combinations of Star Cards will reward the players with vastly different experiences. One Specialist might excel in trap-laying, while another might concentrate on becoming the ultimate stealthy sniper.

BATTLE POINTS
Battle Points are an all-new feature in Star War Battlefron II that bring an extra dimension of risks and rewards to the game. Whenever you contribute to your team’s progress in modes like Galactic Assault, you earn Battle Points. Take down a foe? Save an ally? Most actions will net you points that can be cashed in to summon reinforcements, changing the flow of battle. Become the Death Trooper and clear a path through enemies, or leap over your foes as the B2 Rocket Droid.
While you’ll usually start out matches as one of the four trooper classes, you’ll be able to change things up by respawning as reinforcements. These come in a variety of forms, from vehicles you can pilot like the V-wing starfighter or thundering AAT, to special characters like the Clone Jumptrooper and B2 Super Battle Droid. You’re also able to earn Battle Points when controlling vehicles or playing as special characters, continuing to grow your reserve.
GAMEPLAY MODES
We will have a brand new canon Star Wars single player story, where we will take the role of an Imperial TIE Fighter pilot Captain Iden Versio and will fight for the Empire. The campaign aims to bridge the gap between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens.
The 2nd game will also offer 5 different multiplayer modes:
- Starfighter Assault – intense dogfights across high atmosphere and space
- Galactic Assault – epic 20 vs 20 all-out warfare
- Blast – fast paced close-quarter combat
- Strike- strategic, objective based battles
- Heroes vs Villains – iconic Star Wars characters go head to head
Watch this 4 minutes long trailer, voiced over by John Boyega and learn what EA is bringing to Star Wars Battlefront II this year. Continue to the next pages to learn the details about each one of the available gameplay modes.
The Multyplayer maps are on a rotation and the player cannot choose which one to play, only the mode. Where will you land, is up to Dice, the servers and your luck. Shortly after the break of the New Year (2018), Dice/EA introduced a change that is expected to improve Galactic Assault’s map rotation order, so the more rare destinations would now have a higher chance of popping up for the players to enjoy.

GALACTIC ASSAULT MODE
In this section we will take a look at the Galactic Assault Multiplayer mode for Star Wars Battlefront II and what maps are available for it. As promised, EA offers various locations and scenes from all 3 Star Wars eras – the Prequels, the Original Trilogy and The Force Awakens eras.
From the dense forests of Kashyyyk to cold halls of the Death Star II and the ominous Starkiller Base, all three cinematic eras of the Star Warssaga are coming to Star War Battlefron II‘s multiplayer. At launch, you’ll be able to wage war across eleven spectacular battlegrounds in the multi-stage Galactic Assault mode, where each map has its own unique objectives to complete. Two teams of twenty players will take part in a series of unique combat narratives unfolding across Star Wars’ extraordinary locations as the sights and sounds of battle unfold around them.
Below you will find more information about each one of the 11 available maps.
PREQUEL ERA MAPS
KAMINO
The waves of Kamino crash beneath the slender platforms of a Cloning Facility as armies of battle droids descend on the artificial island. Their aim is simple: destroy the Republic’s ability to produce more clones. The attackers make their way through the twisting paths and laboratories, hacking computer systems and taking down defenses as they fight toward the final goal: the fusion core. Clone forces will use all their wits and skills to stop them.
KASHYYYK
On Kashyyyk, a Separatist army storms ashore in a thundering amphibious landing. Infantry storm up the beach escorted by flights of Vulture Droids and immense AATs. Awaiting them are Wookiee Warriors and clone troopers dug in behind Juggernaut combat vehicles to defend a grounded Star Cruiser. The invaders make their way from the waters’ edge alongside two massive MTT’s, blasting their way through Republic defenses in an effort to destroy the ship.
THEED
A three stage assault on the capital of Naboo. Squads of droids protect a colossal MTT as it lumbers its way toward the Royal Palace. N-1 Starfighters scream overhead and AT-RT walkers prowl the streets as Separatists and Republic forces fight for control of the city. Once the doors are breached, a close-range melee begins within the palace itself, with B2 Super Battle Droids and Clone Jumptroopers lending their firepower to the chaos.
ORIGINAL TRILOGY ERA MAPS
DEATH STAR II
As the Battle of Endor rages all around it, an Alliance CR90 Corvette loses control and crashes straight into an open hangar on the massive Death Star. The surviving Rebels must fight their way out and quickly find another ship and escape before the Death Star itself explodes! To get out, the Rebels disable the tractor beam, disarm nearby weapons systems, and finally steal a shuttle and make good their departure. In the tight corridors and choke points inside Death Star II, there is little room for vehicular combat. Troopers, special characters, and heroes struggle at close range to overcome their enemies in an old-fashioned boots on the ground battle to the end.
ENDOR
The tables have turned! Rebel saboteurs work quickly to steal an AT-AT walker and use it to attack a hidden Imperial base on Endor. This night battle begins with an Alliance attack on the walker. Should the Rebels manage to overwhelm the defenses around the AT-AT, they take control and set it on a march toward the Imperial outpost. Speeder bikes streak through the woods of the forest moon as Imperial AT-STs and their infantry try and head off the attack. The fight culminates with a brawl on the threshold of the base itself.
MOS EYSLEY
Imperial stormtroopers rush from Llambda-class shuttles into the crowded streets of Mos Eisley. The massive limbs of AT-ST walkers kick up sand as Rebel blaster fire explodes all around them. The Imperial objective is simple: destroy the Alliance U-wing housed in a landing bay. To get there, they’ll need to fight through the outskirts of the city, secure the markets, and finally destroy their target. But the Rebels won’t surrender without a fight… X-34 Landspeeders wait in ambush and Alliance A-wings are waiting to pounce on the Imperial invaders.
YAVIN 4
Deep within the heart of the Great Temple on Yavin 4 is a secret of key importance to the survival of the Rebel Alliance. But Imperial ground forces have arrived! Death Troopers and stormtroopers must take out defensive turbolasers to open up the position, fight through the outlying Rebel outposts, storm the gate, and finally breach the inside of the massive complex and secure the data. Wookiee Warriors, U-wing gunships, and Rebel soldiers stand in the way of the relentless Imperial advance.
HOTH
The icy wastes of Hoth are home to one of the Galactic Civil War’s most momentous battles. Plodding AT-AT walkers advance toward the Rebel position under air cover by TIE fighters, TIE Bombers, and TIE Interceptors, as Rebel defenders and their screen of A-wings, Y-wings, X-wings, and T-47s try and take down the AT-ATs and hold the position. Should the Imperials breach the defenses, their target is first the hangar bays. Once those are taken, their focus will shift to the internal fuel depot which they will detonate to obliterate the base.
THE FORCE AWAKENS ERA MAPS
STARKILLER BASE
As the fighter attack rages above Starkiller Base, a cadre of Resistance warriors make a daring raid to rescue prisoners trapped inside the facility. Troopers attack the external defenses, taking out guns and TIEs on the ground and trying to free the captives before the planet explodes. The First Order forces are soon airborne, however, counterattacking with TIE/FO and TIE/SF starfighters as the Resistance fight to secure the gate. The battle then reaches a climax as the Resistance override the security doors to extract the prisoners and get them to transports in a waiting hangar.
JAKKU
First Order forces have trapped a group of Resistance fighters within the derelict hull of a crashed Star Destroyer in the desert of Jakku. The Resistance have located some data of key interest and are desperately attempting to evacuate it. The First Order attackers must first cut off the Resistance’s access to nearby landing pads to keep them from escaping, then storm the ship, locking down the supply hold, taking control of the exits, and finally heading topside to prevent a rescue by transports landing from above.
TAKODANA
On Takodana, the First Order moves against Maz Kanata’s castle. Resistance forces have taken up a defensive position inside. The First Order advances methodically, capturing the nearby Memorial Hill as a staging area, moving on to attack the outer defenses and finally the castle itself, including a shootout in Maz’s iconic cantina.
CRAIT
On the mineral planet Crait, the First Order has trapped a group of Resistance fighters at what was once a Rebel Alliance outpost. You’ll see the First Order escorting the massive AT-M6 while Resistance fighters in ski-speeders attempt to stop them.
Crait has been added with The Last Jedi Update on 13th December 2017.
STARFIGHTER ASSAULT MODE
This section is dedicated to Starfighter Assault – the dogfighting mode in Star Wars Battlefront II. Starfighter Assault is a twenty-four player game mode that centers around space battles. Each map has unique objectives tailored to its design and respective era, similar to Galactic Assault. This mode can be played in all three eras: the prequel, original, and sequel trilogies. Below you can find additional information about each one of the maps.
FONDOR: IMPERIAL SHIPYARD
Circular with one Imperial Star Destroyer docked to the side of the shipyard, this map has open and closed areas for pilots to test their mettle. The center of the map is open space, dotted with several floating Imperial defense turrets. A series of shield generators protect the facility and can be accessed via several openings, all of which lead into tight flying areas.
THE REBEL’S ROLE
The Rebel Alliance must complete all three stages before their Reinforcement count depletes in order to win on this map in Starfighter Assault.
In the first stage, Rebel starfighters must attack two Imperial Light Cruisers that circle around the center of the map. Two side objectives are to protect two Rebel CR-90 Corellian Corvettes, which deal damage to the Imperial Light Cruisers, and occasional Y-Wing bombing runs. Failure to protect the corvettes or Y-Wings have no penalty except losing extra potential damage. Imperial defense turrets also float in the center and destroying them will allow for easier attack runs.
Once the Imperial Light Cruisers are destroyed, the second stage begins. In this stage, Rebel fighters must enter the innards of the Imperial Shipyard and destroy the three shield generators that protect the docked Imperial Star Destroyer. If the Rebels were able to successfully protect their corvettes in the first stage, the corvettes in this stage enter one of the larger openings of the shipyard and attack the objectives directly. Protecting AI Y-Wing bombing runs continue to be a side objective.
Once the Rebels have destroyed the shipyard’s shield generators, exposing the Imperial Star Destroyer, the final stage begins. By lowering the defenses of the shipyard, the Rebel starfighters have also allowed one Mon Calamari Star Cruiser to arrive as extra firepower.
In the final stage, the Rebels must attack four couplings that connect the Star Destroyer to the shipyard, which are providing the last bits of protection to it. Relatively easy to accomplish, the more difficult part of this stage is to destroy the exposed reactor at the underbelly of the Imperial Star Destroyer once the couplings are detached. By this stage, the stakes are high for the Rebels, as their reinforcement count is nearing zero. To help, the Mon Calamari Star Cruiser will attack the reactor also, dealing significant damage. If the Rebels are unable to destroy the reactor quickly, the four couplings will re-attach and they will have to be attacked again in order to re-expose the reactor.
If Rebels destroy the reactor, they win the game. If the Rebel Reinforcement count depletes before the Rebels can do destroy the rector, the Galactic Empire wins.
THE EMPIRE’S ROLE
Stopping the Rebels from completing any of their main objectives will allow the Galactic Empire a win in this mode.
The main objective for the Imperials in the first stage is to protect their Light Cruisers. Destroying the CR-90 Corellian Corvettes, Y-Wing bombing runs, and keeping Imperial defense turrets online are three side objectives for the Imperials that help accomplish the main objective.
In the second stage, the Imperials are again on the defensive, this time having to protect the shipyard’s shield generators. If not done in the first stage, the Imperials are recommended to destroy the Rebel corvettes before they enter one of the shipyard’s openings to deal damage to the generators. AI Y-Wing bombing runs also continue to remain a threat.
In the final stage, the Imperials must protect the Imperial Star Destroyer from being destroyed. The turrets on the Mon Calamari Star Cruiser can be disabled by attacking them, allowing the Imperials to deprive the Rebels of their advantage.
KAMINO: RESEARCH OUTPOST
The Research Outpost on the planet Kamino is a completely new map that appearrs in DICE’s Star Wars Battlefront II. It was confirmed to appear in the upcoming video game during a trailer for Battlefront’s Starfighter Assault mode.
This planet is the homeworld of the Clone Troopers of the Galactic Republic and is habitaded by the Kaminoans.
RYLOTH: LUCREHULK BATTLESHIP
Starfighter Assault on Ryloth’ takes place around a Lucrehulk Battleship. The Republic must destroy the tractor beam generator on the first stage to free their cruisers. On the second stage, the Republic must destroy the Lucrehold’s communication array to stop the Separatist from calling in more reinforcements. The final stage requires the Republic to first attack the control tower in order to open up the blast doors to attack the core. The Republic only have 30 seconds to attack the core. After that, the Republic must attack the control tower again until they destroy the core or lose all their reinforcements.
ENDOR: DEATH STAR DEBRIS
Death Star Debris is an Endor space map in DICE’s Star Wars Battlefront II. It can be played in the game mode Starfighter Assault between the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance.
UNKNOWN REGIONS: RESURGENT STAR DESTROYER
Starfighter Assault in the Unknown Regions takes place around a Resurgent Star Destroyer.
D’QAR
As you recall from The Force Awakens, D’Qar is the principal base of the Resistance. Now experience an incredible space battle over that planet as the First Order attacks, threatening to wipe out the base, and the Resistance, once and for all.
D’qar has been added to the game with The Last Jedi Update on 13th December.
HEROES VS VILLAINS MODE
This game mode features all Hero characters from the Alliance and Empire. Teams must keep their Heroes alive while destroying the enemy heroes of the other team.
During the game mode, players play either a hero, villain or a soldier in the battlefield, as they try to destroy the enemy team. Whenever a player playing a hero dies, they respawn as a soldier. First team to defeat the enemy team earns a point, if this is done 5 times, the team who defeated the most enemy heroes wins. After a round, players are given a random selection to who they play as.
There is a timer that is present throughout the game mode. The timer for the players choosing of a character lasts for 30 seconds, and the time to kill the enemy team is a total of 3 minutes. If the players don’t kill the enemy team within those 3 minutes, the game will be considered a draw. However, the result will also be judged if any heroes were killed on the player or enemy’s team, meaning if at least one or two heroes on the enemy team were killed, the players team will get the score, but if more heroes were killed on the players team, the enemy will get the score. If both teams have an equal amount of heroes when the three minutes are up, the game is also a draw.
This Game Mode is available on the following maps:
- Sulfur Fields
- Imperial Hangar
- Twilight on Hoth
Ice Caves - Rebel Base
- Rebel Depot
- Dune Sea Exchange
- Jawa Refuge
- Raider Camp
- Swamp Crash Site
- Goazon Badlands
- SoroSuub Refinery
- SoroSuub Pipelines
- Jabba’s Palace

STRIKE MODE
Strike Mode is a small scale fast paced battle between 2 teams of up to 8 players each with 2 different objectives for each team. On each different map/planet the objectives are different, but similar in terms of goals and achievements – one team has to destroy or steal an object, while the other team has to defend or return it. It is basically a fight between an attacking team and a defending team. The roles do not change during the whole match.
The first team to win the match is the one that has scored 2 points. It is a simple best of 3 scenario.
There are no Hero classes available in this mode, but you can still spawn as a special trooper or soldier if you have earned enough battle points.
Available maps:
- Kamino
- Jakku
- Tatooine
- Naboo
- … and more
BLAST MODE
Two teams of 10 players each (for a total of 20 players) are battling each other for victory. In order to win a match of Blast, the players have to hunt down and kill members of the opposing team while avoiding being killed themselves. The team that first reaches the score limit, 100 kills, will be victorious. The score counter at the top of the screen shows both teams’ progress towards victory. If a player scores more kills than anyone else in the match, they will unlock the “Playing the Objective” Achievement. This can also be awarded to other players who have an exact kill count. Prior to the February 2016 update, this was impossible to accomplish, despite the Achievement existing in the list of Achievements. Should neither side have acquired 100 kills before the time limit, whichever team that had the most kills will win. If both have an exacting number of kills, a draw will be issued.
The Blast mode is available on a number of maps:
- Swamp Crash Site
- Imperial Station
- Ice Caves
- Rebel Base
- Twilight on Hoth
- Goazan Badlands
- Imperial Hangar
- Sulfur Fields
- Dune Sea Exchange
