What are Augments
In SWTOR, there are a number of ways for you to improve your character’s stats and customize your gear. One of the more advanced methods is to place augments in the items you wear and the main way crafting contributes to endgame gearing.
Augments are items that bring you additional stats when inserted into the augment slot on each piece of gear.
There are 14 gear pieces, each of which is augmentable, so you can have up to 14 augments total. Having a full set of augments is essential for any endgame player.
I do not recommend augmenting your character’s gear before it reaches max level because it costs a lot of money and offers only a tiny amount of temporary value.
It’s also a good idea to augment legacy-bound (BtL) gear so you can transfer it between your characters and save money.
By default your gear does not have its Augment slot, though some pieces of crafted gear come augmented when they crit. You have to create one using an Augmentation Kit before you can place an Augment in it.
How to Craft Augments and Augmentation Kits
Augments and Augmentation Kits themselves are crafted by Armormech, Armstech, and Synthweaving, but at level 80, you’ll need precursors from Cybertech, Artifice, and Biochem.
Crafting Augments
Each Crafting Profession contributes to the augment crafting process. Armormech, Armstech, and Synthweaving make the final products, while Cybertech, Artifice, and Biochem each make a precursor.
Crew Skill | Major Augment Products |

Armstech | |
Synthweaving | |

Crafting Augmentation Kits
Augmentation Kits have marks (MK-X) associated with their crafting grade. Your Augmentation Kit needs to have a mark that is at least as good as the grade of whatever augment you want to install. For example, if you have a grade 8 augment, you need at least an Augmentation Kit MK-8.
Each Augmentation Kit MK-11 requires 10 Augmentation Slot Component MK-11s, which you can get from deconstructing anything you’ve crafted, and 20 Prototype Data Spikes, which you get from Slicing.
The other 2 materials are determined by the specific augment crafting skill, but you’ll always need 5 of the Prototype Assembly Component | Bonded Attachment and 20 of the Prototype Gathering Material.

How to Install Augments
Installing augments is usually a two-step process. First, you have to install the Augmentation Kit in whichever piece of gear you want to augment. Second, you have to install the augment itself in the slot provided by the Augmentation Kit.
If you’re F2P/Preferred or are just feeling nostalgic, you’ll need to use an Item Modification Station, which you can find in on the Fleet, near major hubs on planets, unlock on your Ship as a Legacy Perk, or place in your Stronghold as a decoration.
Otherwise, just use CTRL+Right-click to modify whichever piece of gear you want to augment. Augmentation Kits are consumed on use and installing the Augmentation Kit costs credits. Installing the augment is free, but removing it costs credits, just like any other mod.
Since we’ve been using Grade 11 crafting since 6.0, for all intents and purposes, you’re going to need 14 Augmentation Kit MK-11s to augment a full set of gear.
7.7 Augments
There are 4 tiers of augments intended that require level 80 to use, with the top 3 tiers requiring the Corrupted Bioprocessors that drop from the Propagator Core XR-53. We’ll tell you everything to know about how to get them and whether they’re worth it.
The Propagator Core XR-53 lair boss on Ilum will drop crafting schematics and required materials for 4 tiers of augments, 2 blue, 1 purple, and 1 gold tier. As you’ll see from the iRating, the blues are roughly equivalent to existing 300 gold (Superior [Stat] 77) augments.
- 296 blue ([Stat] Augment 83)
- 302 blue ([Stat] Augment 86)
- 310 purple (Advanced [Stat] Augment 86)
- 318 gold (Superior [Stat] Augment 86)
They use the same Augmentation Kit MK-11s as now previously BiS augs, so you don’t need to buy new kits for your current gear. The same tertiary stats available as gold 300 augments are available for the new tiers.
Stat Comparison by iRating
Both tiers of blue augments are meant to give everybody access to stat amounts provided by gold 300 augments at a much lower cost, while the purples and golds provide a more impactful performance boost.
All augments have 3 stats including equal amounts of Endurance and Power, along with a lower amount of a third stat that is referenced in the name of the augment.

Stat | Gold 300 Augs | Blue 296 Augs | Blue 302 Augs | Purple 310 Augs | Gold 318 Augs |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Endurance (x14) | +171 (+2394) | +163 (+2282) | +175 (+2450) | +193 (+2702) | +212 (+2968) |
Power (x14) | +171 (+2394) | +163 (+2282) | +175 (+2450) | +193 (+2702) | +212 (+2968) |
[Stat] (x14) | +130 (+1820) | +123 (+1722) | +133 (+1862) | +147 (+2058) | +162 (+2268) |
Relative Value* | 100% | 95.1% | 102.3% | 112.9% | 124.2% |
As you can see, the blue 296 and 302 augs provide roughly the same amount of stat as gold 300 augs, with the 296 providing ~5% less stat and the 302 providing ~2% more stat.
The new purple 310 augs provide ~13% more stat than the gold 300 augs, whereas the new golds are nearly 25% better than the old golds.
Crafting Level 80 Augments
Crafting level 80 augments is a multi-step process that requires you to have multiple different crafting skills at level 700, necessitating multiple toons, friends, or a big, fat wad of cash.
Notable Relentless Replication Drops
The key material, Corrupted Bioprocessors, drop exclusively from Propagator Core XR-53, the new lair boss on Ilum, but more materials drop in VM than SM.
You’ll need Biochem or Artifice to refine the Corrupted Bioprocessors that drop from the boss into Purified Bioessence or Overclocked Biostabilizers, respectively. Then, the other crafting skills can combine those refined products into actual augments.
The blue schematics drop from Propagator Core XR-53 in SM (296) and VM (302), and you have a chance to learn how to make the purple 310 augs by Reverse Engineering the blue 302 augs.
The gold schematics drop from Propagator Core XR-53 in MM (318), and you also have a 20% chance to learn how to make them by Reverse Engineering the purple 318 augs.
You learn how to refine Corrupted Bioprocessors into Purified Bioessence or Overclocked Biostabilizers from a Biochem or Artifice trainer, respectively.

Economics and Recommendations
As always, the economics will play a key role in determining which tier is appropriate for you, along with which augments you have right now.
For Gold 300 Augment Owners
If you already have gold 300 augments, it will not make any sense whatsoever to get anything other than purple 310 or gold 318 augments, but there is little value in upgrading at all.
Broadly speaking, Rakata 344 gear is already super duper overkill for everything besides Gods NiM, so upgrading from 300 golds to these new 310 purples or 318 golds won’t make much of a difference outside of an evenly matched duel.
You’re effectively getting an extra 2-4 gold augments worth of stat, which is a few hundred DPS and ~4000-8000 more HP. If you’re wiping by that much right now, you have a significant skill issue, not a gear issue.
They will provide the most value to disciplines that have a nonstandard amount of alacrity, either resulting from a buff in their tree or resulting from having 2 alacrity implants.
For example, some of my toons have their alacrity at 7.37% right now, and I’d like to get that up to ~7.5% for improved GCD consistency.
Once the gold 318s come out, I don’t see much of a point in skimping on augments. If you can afford the purple 310s, you can afford the gold 318s. If you already have purple 310s, I’m so sorry for your wallet’s loss.
For Blue 276 and Purple 286 Augment Owners
If you have blue 276 or purple 286 augments, I think it’s worthwhile to upgrade to the blue 296s.
I do not recommend that anyone get the blue 302s because the CM-1337 and Bioprocessors spike the price a ton for a DPS increase that will be completely negated if you sneeze during the pull.
I do not recommend getting anything beyond 296 augments unless you do a lot of PvP (and know what you’re doing) or plan to do NiM progression raiding.
Spend the credits on jewelry that players can actually see in-game without inspecting your gear. Spend the time you would have spent farming endless DF/DP SM on something you actually enjoy or practice on the dummy so you can get better at the game.
