Every year on May the 4th BioWare provides players with a small gift. Lately this usually has been a mini pet droid. The 2020 Celebration follows that tradition and this year’s gift is another mini astromech droid that will follow you around and beep when prompted. The Double XP event also runs with full power on the live servers and as a small surprise we got a few of the still missing tracks from the SWTOR Soundtrackas an official release. Last but not least there is a global collections unlock on all collections in the Cartel Store!
How to get the free Droid mini pet for SWTOR May the 4th
For the last couple of years (I can’t remember further back, D’OH, help me, will you?!) BioWare has been delivering a mini pet droid.
This year’s gift droid pet is conveniently called M4-Y9. The first two symbols are for the special date – May the 4th, while the last two mark the ninth year of the game. Yeah, Star Wars: The Old Republic was released in December of 2011. That’s a long time ago… in our galaxy, though.
The little guy features grey/silver as its main color mixed with gold-ish panels and deep purple accents on the top.
The M4-Y9 is available from May 4 until May 10, 2020. Log in to SWTOR between these dates to claim it. It will appear in your mail box as soon as you log in and this is valid for all of your existing and future characters on any live servers.
This is the mail you should receive if you qualify for the gift:
Fun fact: the actual name of the astromech mini pet droid in-game is My-Y20, which is a wordplay, I suppose for the year 2020. The mail as well as the Pets tab display its other name “M4-Y9”. Both sound equally valid, but if we follow tradition, the M4-Y9 should be the true name :)))
Here is the little guy in live-sized form:
Yes, it does look “quite similar” to the 2018 astromech and 2019 astromech droids we got. The one we got last year was way cooler in terms of its color scheme, in my opinion. What do you think?
Double XP Event still running
The Double XP event is also a tradition around this date of the year. This time, because of the “Stay at Home” reasons the dev team decided to run the event for a whole month.
From one month then the event was extended to nearly two months after an unpleasant issue was discovered with the April’s Bounty Hunter event and the mission terminals had to be turned off.
The current plan is for the May the 4th Double XP event to end on June 16. 2020. If BioWare decide to change that, I will inform you promptly, as usual.
Cartel Market Collection Unlocks Promotion for May the 4th
Another reason to celebrate (with your pockets open) is the Collection Unlock Sale currently running on the SWTOR in-game store – the Cartel Market.
“Due to popular demand, the Collection Unlock Sale is back for an extended period of time! Between Monday, May 4th (7:00am CT / 12:00pm UTC) and May 18th (7:00am CT / 12:00pm UTC), all Collection Unlocks will have a 50% discount. It’s the perfect time to deck out all your characters with your favorite Mount or Armor Set!” – the announcement states.
Collection Unlocks allow you to grant the same item that you have purchased from the store to every single one of your characters, including ones you may not yet have created.
SWTOR Soundtrack New Additions
If by any chance you have not yet heard these epic Star Wars tracks a million times in-game, you can enjoy them out of SWTOR as well.
BioWare added a number of new tracks to the YouTube playlist available on the SWTOR YouTube channel.
