This guide will help you get all SWTOR Datacrons on Balmorra if you play an Empire character. From the best starting point to the exact location where you can collect them. And, of course, the Data Codex Entry lore behind each Datacron!
Datacrons are hidden collectible items in SWTOR that provide a permanent stat boost to all of your characters within your Legacy on a server.
There are dozens of Datacrons spread across both the Republic and Empire factions in SWTOR. Each Datacron you collect permanently boosts the stats of every character you have, including new characters. Every Datacron also unlocks a Codex Entry which unlocks Lore for you to read.
Balmorra is accessible to both Republic and Imperial, but each faction comes to it at a different level and with a unique storyline. This guide goes over all the Datacrons that you can find on the planet Balmorra as an Imperial faction player. The planet is located in the Coreward Worlds sector of the Galaxy Map.
For Imperial players, this planet is recommended for level 16 or higher. You should be fine if you land on it at level 14 or 15 as well.
Each walkthrough segment of the guide always begins with the recommended starting point on the map and ends with the location of the Datacron itself and the Data Codex Entry.

Balmorra (Imperial) Blue Mastery Datacron Location
This Datacron will permanently increase your Mastery with +2. It unlocks the Galactic History 28 Codex Entry. The Republic version of this Datacron is Orange. It grants you +4 Masterry and the Galactic History 56 Codex Entry to Empire Players.
The Blue Mastery Datacron is inside the Okara Droid Factory in the Markaran Planes zone. The closest Quick Travel is Vanguard Outpost.

As you exit the elevator, follow the corridor until you reach the Assembly Line. Jump to the ground level below the production lines and find the entrance to this structure. It’s below the second production line from the south. Enter it.
From there, you have to carefully drop down onto the pipes. Don’t jump, don’t run. Just walk to the edge slowly and drop. On the third drop, you can walk a bit stronger off the edge of the pipe to make sure you don’t slip on the lower one where the Datacron is.
Successfully collecting the Datacron will give you +2 Mastery to all characters and the following Codex Entry:
Galactic History 28 – The Battle at Primus Goluud Toward the end of the Great Hyperspace War, besieged on all sides by the forces of Naga Sadow’s Sith Empire, the Republic prepared for a last, desperate stand at the red giant Primus Goluud. Sadow’s fleet clashed with the might of the Republic Navy, while Sith forces fought the Jedi on the surface of Coruscant itself. Gav Daragon, who had been fooled into becoming Naga Sadow’s servant, led the assault on his homeworld, Koros Major. When one of his friends was killed, Gav realized Sadow had been manipulating him, and defected to the Republic. Alongside Empress Teta’s forces, he joined the battle at Primus Goluud. Trapped, Sadow used a superweapon to explode the red giant. Sadow’s forces escaped into hyperspace before the shockwave hit; Gav Daragon was killed, but not before he had transmitted Korriban’s coordinates to Empress Teta and the Republic fleet.
Balmorra (Imperial) Orange Mastery Datacron Location
This Datacron will permanently increase your Mastery with +2. It unlocks the Galactic History 29 Codex Entry.

Galactic History 29 – Sadow’s Escape Naga Sadow’s attempt to conquer the Republic in the Great Hyperspace War had failed. After the battle at Primus Goluud, he led the limping Sith fleet back to Korriban, only to find an old enemy waiting for him. His rival Ludo Kressh, believed dead, now commanded a fleet of his own. The two Sith Lords fought furiously, only to be interrupted by the Republic fleet, which had pursued Sadow through hyperspace. The Republic began to attack the Sith forces, quickly gaining the upper hand. Sadow took desperate measures. He forced one of his captains to ram Kressh’s flagship, killing his rival once and for all. Left with only a single vessel and a crew of slaves, Sadow escaped the battle and fled to the remote jungle world of Yavin Four. Sadow then placed himself in a long stasis, still dreaming of a Sith golden age.
Balmorra (Imperial) Green Matrix Shard Datacron Location
Matrix Shards are mission items that you can use to create a Relic for your character. The Shards are earned Per-Character. This means that even though the Datacron is considered collected for your entire Legacy if you want to get the Matrix Shard on a different character you will have to find the Datacron again on that character. This Datacron unlocks the Galactic History Codex 30 Entry.
The Shard is located inside the Neebray Warehouse in the southwest corner of Gorinth Canyon. You can use the Troida Military Workshop as the closest Quick Travel.
Enter the Warehouse’s Level 1 and take the elevator to Level 2.
On the Lower Level, you will see two terminals that you can interact with. The Datacron is in the back, locked behind an energy shield.
To lower the shield, you need to have someone with you to press the buttons (1 and 2) at the same time. Then you will gain access to the back room (3) where the Datacron is.
Successfully collecting the Matrix Datacron will give you 1 Green Matrix Shard in the Mission Items Tab of your Inventory, as well as the following Codex Entry:
Galactic History 30 – Rise of the Sith Emperor With the end of the Great Hyperspace War, the Republic and the Jedi began to purge the remnants of the Sith Empire–obliterating its power centers, destroying its dark teachings and leaving its people without a clear leader. The Supreme Chancellor and his allies argued that this was not a battle against the Empire’s citizenry, but a necessary step to free the Sith from corruption. The survivors among the Sith–and they were few, as famine, disease and infighting claimed those who did not continue to face down the Republic–saw it as a deathblow to their culture. But a savior arose: The man who would one day become Emperor of the Sith had weathered the war with a number of trusted followers. No record of the Sith Emperor’s original identity has survived, but he was quickly accepted as the leader of the almost-shattered Sith Empire. Although the Republic had temporarily retreated from the Horuset system, the Sith Emperor knew that Korriban would not be safe for long. While the few survivors emerged from their shelters in the deserts and shattered tombs, the Sith Emperor began to devise a plan, centuries in the execution, that would ensure the survival of the Sith and the eventual annihilation of the Republic.
Balmorra (Imperial) Red Mastery Datacron Location
This Datacron will permanently increase your Mastery with +2. It unlocks the Galactic History 31 Codex Entry. The Republic version of this Datacron is Yellow. It grants Presence +4 and Galactic History 57 to Republic Players.
The Red Mastery Datacron is found in the western end of Gorinth Canyon, in the Windswept Plateau. The closest Quick Travel is actually Sundari Imperial Outpost, which is located in the Sundari Flatlands zone.
Turn west and go through the long metal bridge. As soon as you reach the green fields, turn left (south). There is a narrow path nestled among the cliffs.
Jump on the large rock on the left side as you face south and follow the narrow path going south. If you are having trouble jumping up on the rock, use a mount.
You will soon find yourself in a small grassy area, surrounded by tall rock formations. There will be an Aging Bormu creature in front of you and a turret tower slightly to the right. Go past it the turret tower and you will see the Datacron.
Successfully collecting the Datacron will give you +2 Mastery to all characters and the following Codex Entry:
Galactic History 31 – The Ritual of Nathema During the final days of the Great Hyperspace War, the Sith Emperor and his closest followers remained upon a world known as Nathema and did not engage the Republic. It is clear from the records that Nathema is not the original name of the world, but why it was changed and why he was there has been carefully purged from all records. What is known is that following the flight of Naga Sadow, the Emperor came to Korriban, gathered the remaining lords of the Sith and took them back with him to Nathema. There they conducted a ritual that extended the Emperor’s life at the cost of the lives of more than eight thousand Sith Lords. The Ritual of Nathema is celebrated among Imperial scholars as a rare and amazing coming together of Sith for the good of the Empire. The Emperor then gathered the younger generation of Sith, promoted new lords and promised them revenge on the Republic for its attempted genocide of the Sith people. Aboard a small fleet, the Sith Empire vanished into unknown space, leaving no trace for the Republic to find.
Balmorra (Imperial) Purple Mastery Datacron Location
This Datacron will permanently increase your Mastery with +2. It unlocks the Galactic History 32 Codex Entry. The Empire version of this Datacron is Blue and grants +4 Mastery and the Galactic History 54 Codex Entry to Republic Players.
For the Purple Mastery Datarcon, you will have to visit Bugrown Outpost in Farnet Research Facility. This is the starter area for Republic players on Balmorra.
From the Transport station, jump down and run along the shores of Lake Farnel heading east until you reach the other side. There, on a small cliff, you will find the junk dealer Ba’teil. Buy the Lost Code Cylinder from this vendor. It’s a unique item, you can’t buy and hold more than one.
Next, head to the center of the zone. Find the broken bridge. On the north side of the bridge there is a metal container. Click on it to unlock it and discover the Purple Datacron inside. To open the container, you will need the Lost Code Cylinder.
Successfully collecting the Datacron will give you +2 Mastery to all characters and the following Codex Entry:
Galactic History 32 – Long Exile Led by their new Emperor, the survivors of the Sith Empire had left Korriban aboard a small fleet following the Great Hyperspace War. There was no place in known space they could hide from the Republic–and so, undaunted, they fled into the unknown regions of the galaxy. Where the old Sith Empire had often been divided by rivalries, the survivors were now united, both by their desire to find a new home and by their anger at the Republic that had sought to destroy them. For decades, the fleet wandered among the stars–until one day, a scout vessel returned to the armada with incredible news. Either by luck or by the esoteric designs of the often-silent Emperor, the Sith had rediscovered a long-lost outpost world: the jungle planet of Dromund Kaas. Absent from any star charts, Dromund Kaas presented a perfect refuge where the Sith Empire could rebuild and plan its revenge.
