This guide will help you get all five SWTOR Datacrons on Tatooine. From the best starting point to the exact location where you can collect them. And, of course, the Data Codex Entry lore behind each Datacron!
This guide is created for VULKK.com by Kal from TodayinTOR.
Datacrons are hidden collectible items in SWTOR that provide a permanent stat boost to all of your characters within your Legacy on a server.
There are dozens of Datacrons spread across both the Republic and Empire factions in SWTOR. Each Datacron you collect permanently boosts the stats of every character you have, including new characters. Every Datacron also unlocks a Codex Entry which unlocks Lore for you to read.
This guide goes over all the Datacrons that you can find on the planet Tatooine. Located in the Distant Outer Rim, Tatooine is an early game planet.
Tatooine is accessible to Both factions. Each walkthrough segment of the guide always begins with the recommended starting point on the map and ends with the location of the Datacron itself and the Data Codex Entry.

Tatooine Blue Mastery Datacron Location
This Datacron will permanently increase your Mastery with +3. It unlocks the Galactic History 38 Codex Entry.
The closest travel point for this Datacron is in the Mos Anek Quick Travel Point for Imperial Players and Outpost Selara Quick Travel Point for Republic Players. It is located in the Jundlan Wastes.

Upon arriving up the hillside, you will find some crashed starship wreckage showing you where to go. There is also an Elite Sand People Savage spawn nearby to mark the way.
Once you have climbed over the ship wreckage and cliffside, jump down onto the small ledge below. Once you have landed on the Wreckage, jump down onto the platform with the Datacron.
Successfully collecting the Datacron will give you +3 Mastery to all characters and the following Codex Entry:
Galactic History 38 – The Tyrant of Onderon
The fallen Jedi Freedon Nadd learned well at the feet of Naga Sadow, an ancient Sith Lord. After killing his mentor, Nadd traveled to distant Onderon and established himself in the capital Iziz as a tyrant, twisting the city’s culture to a Sith ideal.
Nadd would often banish criminals beyond Iziz’s walls, intending for them to die in Onderon’s dangerous jungles. However, many of these criminals survived and began taming the jungle beasts as mounts. These “Beast Riders” formed a guerrilla force that eventually went to war against Iziz. Nadd fought them fiercely, but the jungle had honed the Beast Riders into formidable enemies.
The civil war continued even after Nadd’s eventual death. Nadd was entombed below the city of Iziz, where his influence on Iziz’s rulers would be felt for centuries.
Tatooine (Empire) Orange Mastery Datacron Location
This Datacron will permanently increase your Mastery with +3. It unlocks the Galactic History 39 Codex Entry for Imperial Players.
Important: Republic players can access an identical Datacron listed below. They are shared so you only need to earn one of them.
The closest travel point for this Datacron is in the Siltshift Cantina Quick Travel Point for Imperial Players.
You can find the starting point for this datacron by the rocky wall to the West Road in Mos Ila. There is a man sitting under an umbrella nearby.
Once you climb the rock wall near the Umbrella, jump up onto the rocks then over onto the big red triangle.
Walk across the giant red triangle and jump own onto the roof of the large buildings below. Keep going on the same rooftop until you climb the dome on the far side to the North.
Once you climb the dome, jump down onto the thin wall below and walk across the archeway that faces East.
Once you get to the end of the archeway, jump up onto the metal pipe and then the taller stone wall above.
Once you have made it onto the stone wall, be very careful. You must now safely jump onto the metal framework then to the walkway. If you fall you will have to start over.
Once you make it to the walkway, run to the other end then jump across the metal pipes until you get to the walkway below.
Once you are on the walkway you have basically made it. Keep following the building around the edge until you reach the Datacron!

Galactic History 39 – The Third Great Schism
Freedon Nadd proved that for the Jedi, the struggle against darkness would be eternal. In the years after Nadd’s death, a civil war broke out on Coruscant between members of the Jedi Order. The dark siders responsible were eventually driven from Coruscant to the Vultar system.
These Dark Jedi began exploring their new home and discovered massive, ancient machines that spoke of an extraordinary discovery. The Vultar system appeared to have been artificially constructed; these machines were clearly relics of the long-forgotten Architects who had built it.
Eager for revenge on the Jedi Order, the Dark Jedi sought to use these machines, including the device they called the “Cosmic Turbine.” But the machines were far beyond their ability to control. Days into their attempt, a catastrophic accident destroyed the machines, the Dark Jedi and the entire Vultar system.
Tatooine (Republic) Orange Mastery Datacron Location
This Datacron will permanently increase your Mastery with +3. It unlocks the Galactic History 39 Codex Entry for Republic Players.
Important: Imperial players can access an identical Datacron listed above. They are shared so you only need to earn one of them.
The closest travel point for this Datacron is in the Anchorhead Quick Travel Point for Republic Players.
To start the path to the Datacron, head outside the walls of Anchorhead above the spaceport until you find a large sand dune up against this wall. Jump up onto it.
Once you get on top of the wall, take it all the way East then climb up onto the houses. Follow the lime-green rooftops as far North as you can.
Once you come to the end of the rooftops, you will find a large blue square sail. Jump on it and follow it East.
Keep going East across the rooftops, try to stay on the North-most edges as the path is easier to cross each gap. Eventually, you will come to a wall that you must jump onto. If you fail you will have to go back to the start and try again.
Once you have made it across the Wall, keep going until you reach the next blue square sail and cross it diagonally to the next rooftop. Then traverse the large blue sail that rises up into the air above the giant building.
Once you have jumped onto the giant building. Take the Eastern way around the large dome. You should see the Datacron directly below you!

Tatooine Blue Matrix Shard and
Red Mastery Datacron Location
Matrix Shards are mission items that you can use to create a Relic. The Shards are earned Per-Character. This means that even though the Datacron is considered collected for your entire Legacy if you want to get the Matrix Shard on a different character you will have to find the Datacron again on that character. This Datacron unlocks the Galactic History 41 Codex Entry.
This Red Mastery Datacron will permanently increase your Mastery with +3. It unlocks the Galactic History 40 Codex Entry.
Unlike other planets, The Tatooine Blue Matrix Shard Datacron and Red Mastery Datacron are located next to each other and collected together in the Dune Sea. You need to ride a special Jawa Balloon to reach both Datacrons.
The closest Quick Travel Point for Republic Players is Outpost Thorazan, and for Imperial Players is Outpost Zaroshe.
Balloon Ride
To board the Balloon, you need to travel to the far South-West of the Dune Sea in the corner of the map. You can tell it is the correct Sandcrawler if there is a Jawa talking to a hologram on the top.
Once you reach the correct Sandcrawler, you must wait for the Jawa Balloon to arrive before getting on. The ride to the Datacron takes approximately 20 minutes. Once you have made it through the Balloon Ride, jump off onto the Sandcrawler.
Skip Method
You can skip the entire Balloon section and go right to the Sandcrawler with both Datacrons if you have a friend. As long as one of you has the ability to use Force Push (Juggernaut/Guardian) or Shield Knockback (Sniper, Gunslinger).
The image below will show you where to stand specifically to throw another player onto the Sandcrawler.
Make sure that the player getting thrown is jumping up and down constantly. That way the player behind them (the thrower), can use Force Push or a Knockback to throw them even further than if you were standing still.
If you were thrown correctly, you should land on the brown back edge of the Sandcrawler. Walk up and the Datacron is all yours.
Blue Matrix Shard
Once you land on the Sandcrawler, carefully walk up to the Datacron. But do not leave after you collect it!
Successfully collecting the Matrix Datacron will give you 1 Blue Matrix Shard in the Mission Items Tab of your Inventory, as well as the Codex Entry:
Galactic History 40 – The Infinite Empire Collapses
Czerka Corporation had grown rich on weapons development, experimental research and planetary exploration. Some years before the Great Droid Revolution, Czerka discovered a backwater planet with extraordinary flora and fauna, whose trees grew kilometers high. The planet was known to its natives as Kashyyyk.
Czerka was already planning to exploit Kashyyyk’s resources when corporate scouts encountered the native Wookiee population. Although physically strong and agile, the Wookiees were forced to fall back before Czerka’s superior technology.
It didn’t take Czerka long to realize that the true wealth of Kashyyyk was the Wookiees themselves. Bringing in its forces and considerable investment power, Czerka established a position on Kashyyyk and set about exporting Wookiee slaves to the highest bidder. They also decided to change the planet’s name to something more appealing to investors: Edean.
Red Mastery Datacron
Before you leave, jump down carefully onto the Outside of the Sandcrawler, and walk along the edge. Very carefully making your way down to the small platform with the next Datacron.
Successfully collecting the Datacron will give you +3 Mastery to all characters and the following Codex Entry:
Galactic History 41 – The Droid Rights Movement
For millennia, droids had filled an important role in Republic society. They were tireless workers, trusted servants and often functioned as diplomatic translators. Battle droids formed a key part of the Republic’s military strategy.
However, a “droid rights” movement began to find a voice across the Republic and quickly became popular on Coruscant. The argument was made that since droids had personalities and sentience, owning a droid was tantamount to slavery.
The Galactic Senate dismissed the movement as a mere fad, but after millions of appeals to create a Droid Rights Bill, they were forced to address the issue. A surprising number of Senators spoke up in favor of droid rights, while many others dismissed the idea as absurd. The debate would continue until the Great Droid Revolution stopped the droid rights movement in its tracks.
Tatooine Purple Mastery Datacron Location
This Datacron will permanently increase your Mastery with +3. It unlocks the Galactic History 42 Codex Entry.
The Tatooine Purple Mastery Datacron is located in the Jundland Wastes. The closest Quick Travel Point for Republic Players is Outpost Largona, and for Imperial Players is Ridgeside Sentry Post.
Once you have travelled to the Starting Location known as the Eastern Wound. Enter the first row of Tusken Raider houses then walk towards the cliffside facing West.
You should see a large rock sticking out. Safely jump down the rocks and aim to land on the large rock that sticks out. Heal between jumps if you have to.
Once you are safely on the Large Rock, turn around to face the Cliffside and you should see a cave guarded by level 27 Sandpeople. Enter it and go all the way to the end.
There are many Strong and Elite level 27 Sandpeople in the cave so be careful. Once you reach the end the Datacron is just outside the Cave exit.
Successfully collecting the Datacron will give you +3 Mastery to all characters and the following Codex Entry:
Galactic History 42 – The Droid Rights Movement
Some years before the Old Sith Wars, the Nevoota–a species of insectoid aliens from the Balmorra system–found themselves facing an army of disciplined warriors in distinctive armor. The warriors were Mandalorian Crusaders, testing themselves against the galaxy’s deadliest species.
However, the Nevoota were a challenge even for the Mandalorians. Possessing superior numbers and utterly disdainful of death, the Nevoota fought a four-year campaign under the cunning warlord Ithcharaka–but finally the Mandalorians hunted the Nevoota to extinction.
This conflict had a profound effect on Mandalorian culture. The Mandalorians began to see war itself as an end, not just a means of conquest. Through war, Mandalorian society found its highest expression. When Mandalore the Indomitable eventually rose to power, he led a people who demanded nothing less than the greatest challenges the galaxy could offer.
