A complete guide to the requirements to unlock and access the SWTOR 7.0 Legacy of the Sith expansions story content and go to Manaan as a Republic and Empire player!

What is Legacy of the Sith

Legacy of the Sith is the name of the expansion for SWTOR released in February of 2022. It was originally planned for December of 2021 but had to be delayed due to technical issues.

The Legacy of the Sith offers two different new storylines to Republic and Empire supporters. Here’s a brief excerpt from BioWare’s official SWTOR 7.0 reveal announcement:

Legacy of the Sith will take players on an adventure to the far reaches of the galaxy including the aquatic planet of Manaan in pursuit of Darth Malgus. The major update will increase the maximum number of levels players can achieve by 5 to level 80. The toughest challenges yet Star Wars: The Old Republic will also be introduced with new collaborative missions including a Flashpoint set in a mountaintop tomb on the remote planet Elom, as well as an Operation in the remains of a deep space research station.

Both story arcs from Legacy of the Sith for Republic and Empire followers have some differences in terms of goals and missions, but the locations are the same.

It seems to be a tradition for BioWare that with each expansion you get to visit two major locations. For 7.0 and Legacy of the Sith these are Manaan and Elom.

You may remember briefly visiting a small and very limited area on Manaan for a previous story arc. You also may have your own Manaan Stronghold. The Manaan you will visit and interact with in Legacy of the Sith is quite different. It’s dark, moody and features lots and lots of rain!

Elom is a remote planet, featured in SWTOR Legacy of the Sith. Sadly, for now, you only get to visit it during your run through the Ruins of Nul Flashpoint.

How to Unlock and Access the Legacy of the Sith Story

Legacy of the Sith is for players level 80. To access its story content, you need to cover all of the following story progression requirements:

  • Be an active subscriber or have been a subscriber for at least a month between today and the release date of Legacy of the Sith, which is February 15, 2022.
  • Have the Onslaught storyline completed up to the mission “Whispers in the Force”, released with Game Update 6.3.2.
  • Be level 80. This is more of a recommendation. The content may prove to be too challenging if you are low level. There is no specific minimum level required officially to unlock the content.

There is no direct way to play straight from the beginning of Legacy of the Sith.

You have the option to boost an existing character to level 80 using the Master’s Datacron. This does not grant you access to any content, by the way. It also does not complete any existing content you already have access to.

You can create a new character and start from the Ossus story arc, which is the beginning of the Onslaught 6.0 Expansion. You will only gain access to the content you have unlocked. If you have been a subscriber at any point in the past couple of years, you should have access to Onslaught.

Here is a list of all the storylines you must go through to reach and unlock the first mission of Legacy of the Sith:

The final mission before you get access to Legacy of the Sith is Whispers in the Force. It’s not a real mission and consists of a cinematic cutscene and a few conversations between your character, the Alliance Commander, and his/her crew.

After you have covered all of the requirements, you can finally start the story content of Legacy of the Sith. Though, there will be no prompt or a new mission showing up automatically in your mission log.

Go to your Personal Starship and check the Mission Console for a new quest. You should see the starter quest for your faction under the tag “Legacy of the Sith”.

This first mission will take you to Manaan where the Legacy of the Sith begins. For Republic players, it’s called “Dead in the Water”. For Empire followers, the starter mission is “Retaliation”.

Difference between Empire and Republic versions

This segment of the guide does not contain any story spoilers. It should serve as an explanation and inspiration to experience both sides of the conflict

While the overarching Story of the Manaan Invasion Zone in Legacy of the Sith is the same for Both Factions, each of the factions have their own unique storyline, making them very different. Both are designed to be played in tandem with the events of one reflecting in flavour of the other.

The Republic side of Manaan is more heavily rooted in the overarching plot of the Selkath. As such the Republic storyline features a more inclusive look across both the Republic and Manaan involving the lore and plights of the Selkath.

The Imperial side of Manaan is more closely related to the politics of the Sith Empire and their contrast as Conquerors across the Galaxy, featuring a darker, exclusive look at the Sith themselves. The overarching Story of the Manaan Invasion Zone is much more back-seated in the Imperial storyline compared to that of the Republic.

Both the Republic and Empire storylines feature special cutscene and dialogue differences for those that chose to play as Saboteurs from Onslaught. It does not change the main story of Legacy of the Sith however it does change small interactions with several main-story characters.

Going forward past Manaan and into Elom and Ruhnuk, the currently released content solidifies into a single-central storyline for both factions; while still retaining unique story cutscenes, chracters and flavour for Republic, Empire and Saboteur characters of both factions.

I’d like to thank Kal from TodayinTOR for his help with this segment of the guide.

Why should you unlock Legacy of the Sith

SWTOR’s undoubtfully strongest part is its story. The narrative of this game has been its strongest pillar throughout all these years. It never stopped drawing players back to experience a new expansion, daily area or something else.

Granted, BioWare is not producing new content at the pace we want them to, but at least they still keep the storylines going with new missions.

If you don’t feel like paying $15 each month, you could easily pick a suitable moment, like this one (long after an expansion has been released) to subscribe for a month. You will permanently unlock all storylines and story content for all of your current and future characters.

Whether you play through the new content you have missed since your last played, it doesn’t matter. It almost certainly will be worth the price tag.

The Legacy of the Sith story that was released with 7.0 in February of 2022 was way too short. After the launch, BioWare continued (and continues) to develop the two major story arcs – Darth Malgus’s return story arc and the Mandalorian story arc.
