SWTOR Kessan’s Landing Datacron Guide

Siow by Siow|

This guide will show you how to get the Kessan’s Landing Datacron in SWTOR. This datacron was released with Game Update 7.4: Chains in the Dark. Things are about to get heated up as you’ll have to traverse numerous pools of lava to reach this datacron!

How to unlock Kessan’s Landing Datacron

After you gain full access to Kessan’s Landing, the new area on Ord Mantell, released with SWTOR Update 7.4, you also have to unlock the Kessan’s Landing Datacron.

You do this by completing all of the Geothermal Shielding Missions in Kessan’s Landing. This series of missions grants you a shield to become temporarily immune to lava, so you can guess what’s between you and the datacron.

As mentioned earlier, you’ll need the Completed Shield Unit from the Geothermal Shielding missions. This should be near your faction’s landing zone on a wall. Once you activate the shield, it’ll become a passive effect that activates when you walk on lava.

How the Shield Works

When activated, you have 5 seconds of lava immunity. If you stay inside the lava past those 5 seconds, it’ll overheat and go on a 30-second cooldown. Try to not stay in the lava longer than 5 seconds so you don’t get a cooldown.

Where to find the Worn Access Card

Next, you’ll need to find a Worn Access Card. You can find this card throughout Kessan’s Landing at random points. There are two areas where these can spawn within the same Speeder Workshop in Ardak Point.

One can spawn on a shelf near the reception room while the other can spawn in a storage room upstairs in the workshop.

You can find another Worn Access Card spawn location in the Cantina on the south side of Ardak Point. Go into the cantina and make a left to check the smaller bar, there may be a Worn Access Card. Alternatively, there may be a card upstairs in the lounge overseeing the cantina.

The Subterranean Power Station north of Ardak Point can also have a Worn Access Card. It’ll be in the south room on top of some crates.

If you found a Worn Access Card location not listed here, tell us in the comments so we can add it!

Enter the Tunnel

Head to the south of Kessan’s Landing where the lava flows are in the following map. Alternatively, you can quick travel to Solitude’s Laze and go west to reach this area:

Here you can see the cave entrance, get across the lava within the 5 second time frame your shield allows. Use a mount, rocket boost, or any movement abilities you have to quickly traverse the lava before the shield wears off.

Once inside, you’ll find a Medical Droid and a blue panel on the wall that will grant you the mission, This is Lava Problems! Pick up the quest and go inside the instance to access the datacron. This is not unlike the personal instance for the Onderon Datacron.

Heart of Mount Felo Terminals Sequence

When you go inside the instanced area Heart of Mount Felo, you’ll find yourself in a hallway with several terminals. You’ll need to activate these in a specific order to unlock a door at the end of the hallway. You can see the datacron in this room, taunting you from a distance.

Activate the following terminals in this specific order to proceed:

  1. System Access
  2. Operational Control
  3. System Flush
  4. Safety Release
  5. Routine Execution

You have a limited amount of time to activate the Safety Release, so be quick or you’ll have to reactivate the System Flush.

Once you activate the Routine Execution, you’ll hear an alarm and the door at the end of the tunnel will open. You’ll get attacked by three Savrips, defeat them and continue down the hallway. Get to the end of the tunnel before you run out of time and have to restart the process.

Watch out for the red circles on the floor as you go through the hallway. Stepping in the steam vents one will cause you to slow down and can kill your momentum.

You’ll find some missiles past the small lava pool, right click these to pick up a missile temporary ability. You’ll encounter more Savrips in this tunnel, of which the Savrip Stunners can stun you after using the Stunning Leap ability.

When the Savrip Stunner is charging Stunning Leap, use the missies to interrupt and stun it, here is where you need to run past it, while it’s disabled. Don’t bother trying to defeat it right now as they are very beefy and can take a lot of hits.

SWTOR Kessan's Landing Datacron Guide

Once you get to the end of the tunnel, you’ll encounter a large group of Savrips. Focus on getting through the gate before it closes while using the missiles to interrupt the Savrip Stunners. When the door is closed, you can defeat any remaining Savrips currently aggroed on you.

If you’re a Stealth Character, you can cloak out once you get past the gate to drop all aggro. Unfortunately you can’t stealth your way through as when the Savrips spawn in, they’ll target you regardless if you’re stealthed or not.

Cross the Lava Pool

Once you’ve dealt with the Savrips, you’ll encounter a large pool of lava and a broken bridge. This bridge would have been nice to have intact, but things are rarely this easy with datacrons. Here you can see a terminal you can use and some rocky areas you can land on. What you can’t see are hidden Monitor Droids, fortunately the terminal temporarily reveals their locations.

The Monitor Droids will slow you if you get too close to them when you attempt to run across the lava with your shield. This can be very detrimental to your efforts as this can result in a failure, causing you to restart this section or get cooked well-done. Follow the image below to safely traverse through this area to get to the next section.

Keep in mind that if you enter combat, the Rocket Boost ability will get turned off. If you get caught by a Monitor Droid, use any movement increase abilities to reach the other platforms before your shield deactivates. Once you reach the end, it’s fairly easy as the last gap is free of droids, then make a jump across the ledges to reach the next section.

Loot Detonation Unit from Malfunctioning Probe Droid

Move past some more Savrips until you reach a metal platform. This platform has a console that you can interact with that powers off the shielding at the door you need to reach. This also spawns the Malfunctioning Probe that you’ll need to defeat for a Detonation Unit.

Make your way to the Malfunctioning Probe Droid and fight it. This probe droid can channel an ability that you back. This can be annoying if not deadly if you get pushed into the lava. This gets worse when two Grapple Probes spawn in. They will pull you to them and this can make it easier for the Malfunctioning Probe to push you off.

Stay to the front of the Malfunctioning Probe as the Grapple Probes will spawn behind it. Use your interrupt to stop the Malfunctioning Probe from using its pushback ability, defeat it, and pick up the Detonation Unit. Ranged DPS have an easier time with this fight as they can hang back to avoid getting pushed entirely.

You may need to reactivate the Shielding Systems Override Console once more before proceeding. Get past some more Savrips, make a jump across ledges, and clear some Grapple droids until you reach the unshielded door. Plant explosives at the doorway and detonate them to more forward. If you were too slow, the door will be shielded and you’ll be unable to plant explosives on it.

Abandoned Droid Factory

You’re at the final push for the Kessan’s Landing Datacron now. This area just requires you to use your shield to get across gaps to safe spots, avoid grapple droids, and fight a few Savrips along the way. Fortunately for you, there are no hidden Monitor Droids in this area.

When you cross the lava, be sure to land at the mesh platforms. The other debris you find in this area isn’t always safe to land on. Eventually you’ll find more missiles you can use against the Savrips. You’ll need to use these missiles to interrupt their Stunning Leap ability.

Be careful to not aggro the Grapple Droids while you’re fighting the Savrips, though chances are you will. Don’t proceed any further until you defeated all of the Savrips and Grapple Probes. Be sure to focus the Grapple Probes first so the Savrips don’t stunlock you in the lava.

So many Savrips

Take your time with this section and wait until you’re out of combat before attempting another lava crossing. Eventually, you’ll reach the datacron and the end of the hallway.

Collect the datacron and use the shortcut behind the datacron to get back to the entrance. Here is a map showing the where to navigate through the final lava tunnel:

BUG ALERT

The shortcut that opens the gate back to the entrance didn’t work for me as I was making this guide. While you can quick travel out, this minor inconvenience is most likely a bug with the datacron area.
