SWTOR Taral V Flashpoint Guide

Siow by Siow|

This guide will tell you everything you need to know about the Taral V Flashpoint in SWTOR. Includes all boss encounters, bonus boss, achievements, and more.

This flashpoint is only available for players within the Republic faction. The guide covers Story Mode, Veteran Mode, and Master Mode

How to Start the Flashpoint and its Story

Taral V was designed as a mid-level flashpoint during SWTOR’s initial release. It was balanced for level 32 characters within the Republic. Despite this initial design choice, it is now available to a broader range of levels for players. This flashpoint is closely tied to the Maelstrom Prison flashpoint which takes place after the events of Taral V.

In this flashpoint, you’ll learn of a Jedi prisoner that the Emperor is holding in a prison hidden within the Maelstrom Nebula. Due to the chaotic nebula, traversing this portion of space is exceptionally dangerous without knowing how to navigate through the nebula.

Your goal on Taral V is to obtain a device on an Imperial base that will allow you to navigate the nebula and reach the Maelstrom Prison.

To get the story arc for Taral V (and by extension, Maelstrom Prison), you’ll need to go to Carrick Station on the Republic Fleet. On the west of the map near the elevator, you’ll find a droid named MP-77. Talk to them and it’ll start you on your path to the Telos and you’ll be led to the flashpoint from there.

SWTOR Taral V Flashpoint Guide - starting NPC

To start the Taral V Flashpoint without the story arc, you can find the NPC, LP-2N, that gives the quests in the Telos’s Hangar Deck. You can find the elevator for the hangar deck on the south end of the Telos’s Command Deck.

This flashpoint is also available in the Activity Finder under the Group tab. It’s available for Veteran and Master Mode, but you can find a Solo version in the Solo tab. The Solo version offers a guaranteed decoration drop from the flashpoint should you complete it.

Read our SWTOR Story Progression Guide to learn where this story fits in. The guide will help you experience the game’s narrative in the proper intended order of events and aid and assist you if you are not sure what to do and where to go next.

Bonus Mission: Jungle Infiltration Phases 1, 2, and 3

For the first phase of Jungle Infiltration, you’ll need to defeat 20 Jungle Beasts. You can get a good start to this by attacking the first two Skinflayers at the start as they’ll summon several Lurkers.

From there on, ignore other Skinflayers and focus on the Riverlurkers. The Riverlurkers will spawn in one or two Lurkers once you attack them.

The second phase of Jungle Infiltration requires you to defeat 45 Imperial Forces, so anything that isn’t a wild animal. There are plenty of Imperials in this Imperial base, so have at them to begin the third phase.

The third phase of Jungle Infiltration requires you to Slice 10 Security Terminals. These can be found as soon as the Imperial Outpost where you find the first boss, and you’re able to use these terminals from stealth! They can be found in the following locations:

Bonus Mission: Dark Science

This bonus mission does not lead to the optional bonus boss.

You’ll be able to start this mission when you find an Imperial Research Station and destroy it. This mission will require you to destroy 8 Imperial Research stations found throughout the flashpoint.

At higher difficulties, Lurkers will spawn if you get close to these stations. Two will spawn in Veteran Mode while six will spawn in Master Mode.

These stations can be found in the Jungle, Imperial Base, and the Imperial Fortress. Their locations are shown in the maps below:

Jungle Shortcut

This shortcut will allow you to minimize the amount of combat encounters if you’re trying to rush to the first boss. Keep in mind that if you get too close to an Imperial Research Station, you’ll spawn some lurkers.

Better the Lurkers that’ll gang up for easy AoEs than a bunch of ranged Imperials. Be sure to hug those walls when you can and watch out for enemies with stealth detection such as the combat droids.

First Boss: Captain Shivanek and Ripper

The first boss is actually two bosses, Captain Shivanek and Ripper. Both have a buff that makes them immune to controlling effects, and reduces their damage taken and dealt.

Taral V First Boss: Captain Shivanek and Ripper
Captain Shivanek and Ripper

This fight isn’t too complex and is just a tank and spank where the tank needs to maintain aggro on both bosses. Should one of the bosses be defeated before the other, the surviving one will enrage and gain increased damage. This isn’t a big deal in Story or Veteran Mode.

The only remotely interesting mechanic with Captain Shivanek is that he can use the Reload ability that gives him 1 stack of Reload. You’d think this would let him use new and interesting abilities for a short period of time, all it does is allow him to fire an explosive round at a target.

Ripper has an AoE fear that’ll appear as purple smoke. His Terrifying Roar abilities will incapacitate anyone within 4 meters of him for a few seconds. So long as the tank maintains aggro on both bosses, you should be fine. Take out both bosses in no particular order and continue with the flashpoint.

Veteran Mode Differences

There are no mechanical differences in Veteran Mode.

Master Mode Differences

There are no mechanical differences in Master Mode.

Bonus Boss: Lord Hasper

After slicing 10 security terminals from the Jungle Infiltration bonus mission, you’ll be able to fight Lord Hasper. He’ll be at the Command Center of the Imperial Base, south of the second boss, PD-44.

Taral V Bonus Boss: Lord Hasper

This boss is very basic as he’ll use Force Lightning on a target that’ll also slow them. The main mechanic to watch out for is when he pulls the group to him and uses Force Storm on the group. His Force Storm does a considerable chunk of damage, even in story mode, so get out of the AoE and wait it out if you’re melee.

Veteran Mode Differences

There are no mechanical differences in Veteran Mode.

Master Mode Differences

There are no mechanical differences in Master Mode.

Second Boss: PD-44

PD-44 blocks the entrance of the Imperial Fortress. You can actually skip this boss fight by walking around him to the right, hug the wall, and run inside to interact with a terminal to enter the Imperial Fortress.

Taral V Second Boss: PD-44

This is a tank and spank boss fight, it’s very hard to mess up. The only thing to watch out for are the red AoEs that’ll spawn beneath players. These areas will get hit with orbital strikes, fortunately they’re stationary so you just need to step out of it.

Veteran Mode Differences

There are no mechanical differences in Veteran Mode.

Master Mode Differences

There are no mechanical differences in Master Mode.

Final Boss: General Edikar

General Edikar is nothing special, this is yet another tank and spank scenario. He does however, have two turrets to aid him at the start. Destroy his turrets then go all-out on Edikar.

Final Boss in Taral V: General Edikar

General Edikar will summon combat droid adds as he reloads. He is a sitting duck for the next 40 seconds when he reloads, he doesn’t get any buffs during nor a shield to negate or reduce damage.

Nothing is stopping you from ignoring the adds and continue wailing on General Edikar. Defeat Edikar and his adds then head to the top of the platform in the room to wrap up the flashpoint.

Final Boss: General Edikar

Veteran Mode Differences

General Edikar will spawn with 4 turrets instead of 2, but aside from this there is no mechanical difference compared to story mode.

Master Mode Differences

General Edikar still has 4 turrets and has no mechanical differences when compared to lower difficulties.

Light and Dark Side Choice: The Civilians

When you talk to Doctor Narem demanding the Gree Computer, he’ll tell you that without it, civilians and researchers will be trapped in the nebula as they can’t navigate without it. You can choose:

  • “Call back your civilians now”. Choosing this option will grant +150 Light Side points.
  • “Imperials die. I’m happy”. Choosing this option will grant +150 Dark Side points.

Achievements for Taral V

The majority of the achievements for this flashpoint are for defeating the bosses 1 time, 10 times, and 25 times. Though here are two that grant item rewards:
