What caused the delay
0:11 | Greetings, I’m Vulkk!
0:13 | Star Wars: The Old Republic has not received any new story content since May 2024.
0:19 | While the developers never offered an explanation or confirmation for the content drought, it is universally accepted that the SAG-AFTRA Video Game Voice Actor Strike (and non-US voice actors striking in solidarity) was the culprit.
0:32 | The strike ended in June 2025, so new story content that was meant to release alongside recent major updates can get finished and finally release.
Intended Story Release Schedule
0:41 | At the time of this video’s release, Broadsword still has some work to do, like recording the voice performances and animating the faces. They didn’t have enough time to get anything out for Update 7.7.1, but they have shared their intended schedule:
0:57 | Desperate Defiance: Released with 7.5, May 2024
0:59 | Galactic Threads: Coming with 7.8, Holiday 2025
1:02 | Master’s Enigma: Coming with 7.8.1, Spring 2026
1:04 | Date Night: Coming with 7.8.1, Spring 2026
1:08 | It’s essentially double-time; starting with 7.8, we’ll be getting story content every 3 months instead of every 6 months.
Galactic Threads Story Preview
1:17 | On the heels of Desperate Defiance, Broadsword wants to release Galactic Threads with 7.8. It will follow multiple stories featuring different characters:
1:26 | Pursuing Darth Malgus Darth Nul’s Holocron
1:30 | Hidden Chain threat Darth Malgus’ plans for the galaxy … and other things.
1:34 | The devs also shared a small teaser during the 7.7 Livestream featuring the Rakata Mind Trap on Ilum with a warning from Lana Beniko.
Master’s Enigma Story Preview
1:45 | Master’s Enigma will take place and release after Galactic Threads. It was meant to come with 7.7. It’s now aiming for a non-standard 7.8.1 release.
1:55 | Narrative Director Ashely Ruhl explained that we’ll be further investigating Darth Nul’s Holocron and learn of a “mysterious figure” pulling the strings.
2:11 | It’s definitely Darth Jadus, as seen in the Star Wars Celebration Featurette. Ang given his chest armor, it’s possible he had something to do with the R-4 Anomaly. That would be interesting.
Date Nights Return
2:24 | Date Nights are coming back in 7.8.1 and will feature Torian Cadera and Kira Carsen! So far, Broadsword has been prioritizing the most popular and accessible romanceable companions, so if they’re part of KotFE and beyond, there’s a good chance they’ll be on the list.
