How to start the mission

To start Master’s Enigma, you need a level 80 character, who has completed all previous main story missions from the two most recent expansions, Onslaught and Legacy of the Sith.

This is a solo story experience and you do not need any special gear or preparation. The mission has the same name for both factions, Republic and Empire with small variations in cinematic scenes with unique dialogue lines and characters.

How to unlock Master’s Enigma

Opening Cinematics and Decisions you can make

In the first few minutes of the mission, as the leadership of the Alliance gathers to discuss the recent events, you will have a few cosmetic choices to make.

They do not have major impact on the story’s path or events to follow, but can serve as a moral compass for your character.

Leaving Odessen

You’ll be confined to Odessen by your faction’s leadership. You’ll need to use Theron’s secret passages and a disguise to escape.

When you are instructed to lock down the cargo lift, just go back to the lift and click on the blue button.

Pilot a Loader Droid

You’ll need to pilot a loader droid to pick up a uniform from the Research Laboratory. The first button lets you honk at some NPCs along the way; the second button is a speed boost. Use the speed boost on cooldown.

Once you have the crate, head to Underworld Logistics to drop it off.

Trick the Guards

You’ll automatically put on your trooper disguise after relinquishing control of the loader droid. While disguised, you’ll have two abilities to use. The first lets you salute, while the second one makes you walk slow.

There are guards posted on your path to your ship in the Military Hangar. Just turn on the slow walk when you get close to the guards. You get a debuff if it isn’t turned on when they can see you.

If you try to run past them, they’ll catch you and you will respawn at the start of this sequence. The Noticed debuff wears off quickly and all you have to do if they see you, is to stop running for a moment.

Arriving at the Enigma

You will board Darth Nul’s ship, the Enigma, where Jadus will greet you in a typical Sith fashion. Here, you will have a seemingly big and important choice to make.

Align with Jadus or Not?

You’ll be faced with a decision to align with or against Darth Jadus. Look at the Spoilers section in the end if you want the full details, but to keep your mind at ease, the outcome of the mission is not going to dramatically change.

Choose a Door

You’ll end up in a room where you have to choose between two doors, one with a bunch of orange gunk that somehow made it out of Satele Shan’s head, and another with a whole bunch of vines growing around it.

You have to go through both doors to complete the mission, so it’s really more of a question of which room do you want to visit first.

Biome of Ferocity (Right Door)

Feel free to explore the Biome of Ferocity at your leisure. It’s a bunch of wetlands built on top of a maze of tunnels.

Head to the Observatory

When you’re finished taking in the gorgeous, swampy view head to the big observatory building. Click on the holoterminal in the middle of the building to trigger a cutscene.

If this is the first biome you’re doing, it helps to understand that Darth Nul was a Jedi named Master Raniah before becoming Sith, and this hologram you’re talking to is the result of Darth Nul taking all of her memories of being only Master Raniah and putting those into a program.

Head to the Research Station

In the main building, there are two panels on the walls you can interact with to reveal secret tunnels. The one on the northeast side (left from the entrance) will lead you directly to your next objective.

From the main building, head through the tunnel, make a right and exit. Enter the room on the very edge of the map. You’ll find a datapad on a computer desk explaining Master Raniah’s experiments with the Biome of Ferocity. You can read through it if you want.

Deactivate the Containment Systems

There are 3 red shield gates throughout the biome, each with a little terminal to click on that disables it. You don’t need special keys or anything because this is a secret zoo spaceship and the gates are for the animals, not people.

Harvest Glimmerbuzz Hives

There are some dangling hives under some of the trees on the west side of the biome where you came in. Click on them to knock them down and then pick them up off the ground for later.

Toss Glimmerbuzz Hives into the Lagoon

Do your best Treek impression and chuck those Glimmerbuzz Hives into the south lagoon for the lil’ Marsh Maws, as a treat. Right-click on each of the arrows in the water.

Search the Observatory for a Way to Heal the Tuk’ata

Head back to Master Raniah’s observatory and use the now-glowing terminal to activate a Lab Assistant Droid.

Follow the R4-T Assistant Droid through the tunnel where you’ll use it to clear out some poisonous mushrooms.

Clear Toxic Fungus from Trees

The droid will lead you to the eastern forest where there’s a bunch of mushrooms growing. The ones you’re after are clickable. You have to wait for the droid to get to where you’re clicking before the fungus are removed.

You’re directing the droid on which fungus to clear. If you want one of the droids as a pet for yourself, you can pick up the RE-1 Scout Droid from Jaleit Nall for 1 GS Token. The little guy is part of Stock Group D.

Oh yeah, you might want to stand back a bit. There’s a reason you’re relying on a droid to do this…

Return to Master Raniah

Now that you’ve fixed the biome for her, you can return to speak with Master_Raniah.exe a bit more before sending her out to the room with the two doors.

If this was the second Biome you did, the door in the middle will unlock. Otherwise, you need to head to the Biome of Balance through the other door.

Biome of Balance (Left Door)

The Biome of Balance is an idyllic place with enemies plucked straight out of fairy land. Feel free to explore it at your leisure.

Head to the Atrium

Once you’ve had your fill of heaven, head into the atrium and have a chat with the hologram.

If this is the first biome you’re doing, it helps to understand that Darth Nul was a Jedi named Master Raniah before becoming Sith, and this hologram you’re talking to is the result of Darth Nul taking out all of her memories of being Master Raniah and putting only her memories of being Sith into this program.

Get the Research Datapad

Head to the research station, the only other building in the biome, and grab the Research Datapad. You can read through it if you want. If not, you can always check it later in your Mission Items.

Identify the Cause of the Predators’ Distress

The datapad mentions that the sound machines can agitate the creatures into predation. Walk up to one of these machines along the perimeter of the biome and it will become clickable so you can turn it off.

Look for a Way to Heal the Guardian Beasts

Next, you’ll need to heal the guardian beasts, and the water lily flowers will do the trick.

Treat the Guardian Beasts

Once you’ve grabbed the flowers, head to the poor Boarherds (Kath Hounds) on the hill and give them each a shot.

Locate Device to Retrain Guardian Beasts

Next, you’ll need to find the remote to retrain these Kath Hounds. Turns out a Cave Wampa figured out how it worked, stole it, and developed the first DoorDash service for Wampa-kind.

Lead the Guardian Beasts to the Herd

Now that you can control the animals, head back to them and use that remote by pressing the first ability, Protect, on your temporary ability bar while targeting each Boarherd. This will send them over to the Grophets.

Lead the Herd to the Watering Hole

Each of the 5 Boarherds will lie down next to a pack of space piggies. Target each of them and use the second ability on your temporary ability bar, Herd, to send that pack over to the watering hole.

Return to Darth Nul

Now that you’ve fixed the biome for her, you can return to speak with Darth Nul a bit more before sending her out to the room with the two doors.

If this was the second Biome you did, the door in the middle will unlock. Otherwise, you need to head to the Biome of Ferocity through the other door.

Data vs Lore

Darth Nul split her light and dark side selves up and forced them to contend with ideal environments that the other alter ego would flourish in.

Now that you’ve helped sort things out, they can become a complete woman by merging themselves, but the process takes time and you need to make sure that they don’t tear the ship apart trying to reconcile order and chaos.

You’ll be fighting waves of droids until the number on the screen reaches 100%. Please note that if you try to leave the room through where the droids are coming from, you will reset the fight.

The mission step is currently bugged where the percentage can get stuck or progress very slowly. In the meantime, Broadsword has offered some workarounds

  • Defeat the droids a bit more slowly and let them come all the way to the platform.
  • If you are already stuck you can…
    • Go into the tunnel where the droids are spawning from, reset the encounter and refer to the first tip.
    • Go to the stairs and perform a relog
    • Travel to the fleet, back to the encounter, and then perform a reset of the encounter.

Note – You can see the screen on the console to see your progress. If you notice that has stopped moving for a while than you may be stuck, note this entire encounter should not take more than a few minutes.

I have a feeling the writers are foreshadowing 8.0 here and it will be our job to do the same on a galactic scale after failing to stop Nul’s machine from going off. At the very least, that’s what Nul is really testing here.

Departing the Enigma and Mission Ending

The remaining bit is pretty linear with a couple instances of combat and cutscenes. You’ll be grappling some of the consequences of your decisions earlier in the story.

The ending is cinematic-heavy with a few more easy fights before it wraps up, and we will let you experience it for yourself. There is no point in spilling the major spoiler from the events in the end. If you do not plan to play through it yourself, check out our FAQ and Spoiler sections below for more details.

If you have questions, you may find their answers in the FAQ or Spoilers section below. If not, please, leave a comment and we will get to you as soon as possible.

Reward

The reward for completing Master’s Enigma is a decoration, Cold Storage Supplies (you probably noticed it below the cantina on Odessen), along with the usual Credits, Conquest Commendations, and Tech Fragments.

Post-Mission Mails

It’s a common practice with SWTOR story that after you complete a chapter, you will receive a few emails from related characters from your alliance. Here are the emails we have seen so far:

FAQ

How long is the Master’s Enigma story?

It is between 90 and 120 minutes long, depending on how many questions you ask during the KOTOR cinematics and if you take your time exploring the two biomes.

Is the chapter difficult? What gear do you need for it?

This is a main story chapter and by rule, it is not difficult at all. Everything is tailored with story in mind and you should be able to complete it without trouble with whatever quest gear you may have acquired from previous story missions. No endgame gear is required.

Is Master’s Enigma Story different for each class and faction?

No. The story is the same. The meeting on Odessen features different characters depending on who your have aligned with. There are also a couple of unique lines during the meetings with Jadus for the Imperial Agent. You will have a different companion during the mission. Rivix for Empire, Tau for Republic.

At the meeting on Odessen, should you allow the delegation to take the Holocron away from you?

Regardless of your choice, one of the NPCs (depending on faction) will pick it up and after the holocron’s mysterious defensive mechanisms get activated, that NPC will be slammed against the back wall. The Holocron will always remain in your possession thanks to your companions.

Should you align with Jadus or refuse his offer?

It doesn’t really matter (as of 7.8.1). This is a moral choice that will not impact the outcome of the mission.

Which door to go through inside the Enigma?

You have to go through both biomes behind those doors. Chronologically, it makes sense to pick the right one first, but you don’t have to. You will not miss anything whatever choice you make.

Does it matter if Theron is in the Alliance during this mission?

Not really. Theron has a few lines on Odessen and appears in the “nightmare” sequence in the end, but his presence is not key to the plot.

(MAJOR SPOILER) Who is the traitor for the other faction?

For the Empire, Darth Rivix is the one who betrays you when you meet Jadus for the second time. For the Republic, it’s Tau Idair. They both have different reasons. For the Republic players, Rivix will be present, behind Jadus.

Are there any Dark vs Light decisions?

No. While there are a few moral choices you have to make, none of them reward you with Dark or Light points.

Are there any meaningful Saboteur dialogue choices?

No. The story is neglecting this path, same as many of the previous 7.0 stories have. You may see a random option to answer as Saboteur (as reported by players), but it’s more of a fluff.

Key Decisions and Moments (Spoilers!)

  • On Odessen, you meet the respective faction you aligned with earlier – Republic or Empire. The supporting cast in the back (including yours) may slightly differ based on previous decisions you have made in the story.
  • The cinematics on Odessen play almost identically for both factions and all classes. The main dialogue options are also very similar.
  • If you have Theron in your Alliance, he will have a number of lines of dialogue, but nothing major. He also appears in the “dream like” scenes near the end, instead of Lana.
  • You will always go to the room with the Holocron, whatever dialogue choice you pick outside where you meet the delegation.
  • The Faction will lock you up on Odessen whatever choice you make.
  • You will have to disguise yourself and use Rivix (Empire) or Tau (Republic) to help you escape.
  • On the ship, on your way to the Enigma, Rivix/Tau will give you back the holocron.
  • If you play as an Imperial Agent, you will have a few unique dialogue options and the conversation with Jadus when you first meet him on board of the Enigma will be ever-so-slightly different, but the plot and main points are the same for all classes. The story is moving on the same rails for everyone.
  • The decision to align or not with Jadus is emotional, but is short-lived. In the end, you will end up against him in every scenario. If you do not accept Jadus’ offer, he will incapacitate you and you will still end up in the same spot on the ship – locked and your path is only through the biomes.
  • While completing the objectives for the biomes, you will be interacting with the holograms of Darth Nul and Master Raniah via KOTOR cinematics. Don’t be afraid to pick whatever option you like. The important (lore-expanding) questions are all accessible and you will always be able to learn everything about these experiments and about Nul. You cannot miss important information, unless you deliberately choose to do so.
  • When Jadus reappears after the battle against the droids and the monster, the traitor will be different for each faction. Their reasons are also unique. Rivix (Empire) is hungry for power, while Tau (Republic) wants to save Sa’har, which Jadus led her to believe that he will if she helps him.
  • The Tech and Force classes have a couple of unique animations during cutscenes. Force users use the Force to slam down the holding beam after Jadus takes the holocron

We have played through the mission 4 times at the time of this publication. We still may have a few potential secrets to investigate and will update accordingly. If you have witnessed something we missed to include, please, let us know. Thank you!
