SWTOR Makeb Stronghold and New Decos Announced for Update 7.9

The Makeb Consulate Stronghold will be available for purchase with credits in Game Update 7.9 “Lies of the Jedi”, coming in June 2026. Check out our preview from the PTS!

While the past few strongholds have only been obtainable via Galactic Seasons or reputation tracks, Broadsword is returning to the old ways and letting you buy the Makeb Stronghold with plain ol’ credits!

The Makeb Consulate Stronghold is available for purchase in the Strongholds and Crew Skills section on the Fleet and on Makeb in Talaos City.

There are also a bunch of new decorations that are going to be added to Makeb’s reputation vendor. Many of them will be shown off in this preview.

Outside Courtyard

The stronghold itself is a sprawling two-story compound situated in upstate Talaos City on Makeb. High stone walls prevent bad actors from breaking in and trampling the gorgeous flower beds in the courtyard painstakingly maintained by a fleet of T7 astromechs and C2 protocol droids.

Since the building was a former Hutt Embassy, the security doesn’t end there. When you step into the building, you’ll need to pass through a security checkpoint. This checkpoint also serves as the first expansion to unlock.

This little room has built-in desks, which can be seen as a little restrictive, but I think structured is a more appropriate term. It would be hard to include those bits as decos, and there’s still a lot of freedom in the hall.

Decos included here are:

  • Senator’s Loungers
  • Round Patterned Rug (Gold)
  • Landscape: Makeb Mesa
  • Luxury Hanging Lamps
  • Planter: Topiary Tree (Spheres) [New]
  • Planter: Yucca Palm [New]

First Floor Interior

After you’ve been cleared, you’re free to step into a world of pure opulence. The Main Hall runs purpendicular to the entrance. Opposite the security checkpoint, you’ll see an enclave with a large hook on the floor and a single large wall hook floating in midair.

Main Hall

Broadsword has been innovating on hooks in recent updates, offering new sizes and layouts on the ceiling to complement the large swathes of new ceiling decos they’ve added.

I doubt this requires as much effort as a new hook layout, but it’s still good to see the devs being creative.

I’ve included a new Carbonite Bounty (Large) so you can see how the floating hook works. Not every deco is a good fit, and that’s why you have the large hook beneath it, but a bunch look pretty cool.

I hope they stick another large wall hook on the back facing the opposite direction so you can create more elaborate designs and improve compatibility with flat-backed decorations by effectively mirroring them.

That focal point in the distance draws your eye right in, but there’s more to marvel in the center of the hall. Four glamorous pillars support the corners of a giant artificial skylight and mark the crossroad in the Main Hall.

There are a few more skylights down the Main Hall, and below each, there’s also a Centerpiece hook that just barely fits. You don’t have a whole lot of space to spare. I recommend using smaller Centerpiece decos or one of the new large arrangements, so it doesn’t feel cramped.

If you turn left, you’ll just have some few small rooms with doors that lead directly out to the courtyard. That may sound like a bit of a security oversight, but Broadsword explained on the forums that these doors are only allowed to be opened by Silver Keyholders or higher.

This functionality was a bit buggy when I tried it on the PTS. Hopefully, it will work correctly by the time it arrives to LIVE. I’d love to see the same sort of thing added to places like the Officer Deck on Guild Flagships.

Along the hallway are doors to other little rooms and alcoves like the ones I mentioned before. They’re all pretty much the same size as the domes in the Tatooine stronghold.

Heading down the hallway in the opposite direction, you’ll see another alcove in the distance, beautifully framed by archways protruding from the walls and ceiling. We haven’t seen this sort of architectural detail in SWTOR in well over a decade!

The hook situation is the same as before with the Carbonite Bounty (Large), but I opted to show off the floor hook instead with another new deco, the Statue of Knowledge. It’s just the statue in the middle of the Manaan: Fountain of Knowledge deco, but that’s okay.

Back Rooms

Take a left at the end and you’ll come across a narrower series of hallways. There’s enough space for seating and small tables, but it reminds me a lot of the cramped labyrinths in the Alderaan Noble Estate.

Eventually, you end up in a really cool bilevel room with the higher part further subdivided by ornate shield lattice.

The first thing that came to mind was a security hub, so I put in a new, larger version of the Computer Station (Planetary) deco called Computer Station (Sliced), flanked by a bunch of Jedi Temple Libraries.

I thought the lower part could be a sort of common area, so I just put down a bunch of new Luxurious Meeting Tables, but there seems to be quite a lot you could do with this room.

The lower part just barely fits a Starship hook, so you could probably do up the whole place as a sort of fancy garage or hangar with maintenance tools in the back. A cafeteria would also look pretty fantastic with the back upstairs area as the kitchen.

I think both ideas would work better if they were to open up the side wall into a large outdoor patio that could function as a barn/hangar door like the Garage in the Dromund Kaas | Coruscant Apartments, but Broadsword has never made such a significant change to a stronghold after arriving on the PTS.

Before we leave this room, I also need to draw attention to the coved ceiling. It’s just so stately and regal! Perhaps the ceiling could open up instead of the side wall…

Heading to the left, there’s another hallway that opens up into showcases the Statue of Eternal Grace (Small) bathed in golden rays from another skylight.

The flower bed pedestal is built in, but the statue in the middle can be swapped with another deco that fits on a Medium Hook. It reminds me of the divine hook in the middle of the lake in the Dantooine SH.

It’s an interesting idea, but the fact that it’s a Medium Hook is pretty restrictive. The flower beds along the edges of the room are also built in. I like them, but I wish the room was scaled up to support a Centerpiece hook in the middle.

Realistically, all of the built-ins should be cleared out and added as decos to Meridat Stato on the Fleet. This way, the room can be more than just an indoor courtyard leading to the elevator for second floor and a couple of landing pads.

Basement

The second floor is actually a basement. They did a nice job of making it feel that way because of the lower ceilings and lack of windows.

It’s also far less linear than the main floor, and each room has a unique shape that I look forward to experimenting with more. On the PTS, I tried to make it into a library/museum of sorts.

Main Library

The biggest room in the basement is this multi-level crescent-shaped space. I’ve turned it into a library using a bunch of these new Jedi Archive decos. They’re a lot bigger and beefier than the Jedi Library decos we have now. You can also see a couple of the Ship Part Display sculptures shown here.

Reference Section

Just off to the side of the main library is a smaller area with much lower ceilings. I opted to turn it into a little reference section. If it were more closed off, it could maybe be a vault of some sort, but the floorplan is pretty open.

One thing that really stands out to me in this stronghold compared to recent ones is the texture alignment on the floors. It’s all pretty detailed and actually aligns with the hooks and room features, like doors, corners, and stairs.

“The Slices”

There’s this really cool set of alcoves in one part of the SH that I’ve taken to calling “The Slices”. I set up a Computer Desk (Republic) and the new Luxury Chair in front of some Jedi Library decos so you can see the potential.

There’s also a large hook in the middle that’s perfect for a sculpture or other tech thing of some sort. The ceilings are too low for a centerpiece even though there is enough lateral space.

The Quad

The quad is the second largest space. It’s a multi-level squircle with four pillars.

I wasn’t really sure what to do here, but I didn’t spend a whole lot of time thinking about it and just threw down some more Jedi Libraries, Arrangement: Luxury Tables, and a couple of Bounty Board Holotables in the corner.

Small Rooms

Since the floorplan is so open, most of the Basement was already unlocked. There are just a few small side-rooms that you had to pay to open. It reminds me a lot of how Tatooine works.

There are 3 small rooms in total, though one of them a wider rectangle instead of a square.

Endonae is a passionate gamer who's particularly fond of challenging action RPGs and open world games with visceral combat. The closer it is to being a Soulslike, the better. Ranged casters, particularly of the energy or elemental variety, are his bread and butter. Lightsabers are pretty cool, too.
