With Season 15 came the final steps of the Lucky Coin Saga in Diablo 4, making the Luckiest Coin Available. This guide will walk you through the process of obtaining the Coins, Using them, and everything that comes after.
This guide covers all three sections of the process to unlock the Secret Cow Level in Diablo 4. Feel free to use the left panel (top left button on mobile) to skip to the relevant section for your quest state.
Since each main step and the coins they use are their own self-contained mini quests, the order in which you tackle the process is entirely up to you. Take each step on as you see fit, in any order.
ALL COINS DROP AS COMMON ITEMS AND THEIR RESPECTIVE JEWELRY PIECES DROP AS UNIQUE WHICH CAN RESULT IN THEM BEING FILTERED OUT BY AN ENDGAME LOOT FILTER! Make sure your Filter is OFF when completing each Coin step and turning each coin in!
Tips for Farming Shrines
Shrines are involved in multiple steps of this quest. As such, it’s critical you be aware of this strategy before beginning these quests!
First, if you’re not already playing a Sorceress, it’s highly recommended to make one as a secondary character for the first two coins! This is because they are a highly mobile class that can also equip the Ahavarion, the Spear of Lycander Iconic Mythic Staff.
Ahavarion makes this grind much faster, especially paired with the Nemesis Bracers added with Season 15.
This allow you to farm Elites for Shrine Buffs instead, making finding the mini-event the main luck factor of the grind. While Nemesis Bracers will spawn Elite when a Shrine Buff is earned, allowing you to cycle them until you get what you need if you wait out Ahavarion’s Cooldown!
The Lucky Coin and Ring of Misfortune
First, the original Lucky Coin quest that started way back in Season 3. The steps below are a summary, for more complete details refer to the dedicated guide for the Lucky Coin and Ring of Misfortune.
Obtaining the Lucky Coin
To obtain the Lucky Coin, you need to find both a Greed Shrine and a Specific Mini-event anywhere in the open world. Your Character also needs a Minimum of 33.3% Lucky Hit Chance across their gear, but having much higher is recommended where possible!
Your Difficulty doesn’t matter too much for this step, but more populated difficulties will result in more shrines and events, so Torment Tiers 1, 10, and 12 are your best bets.
It’s recommended to scout a zone for either the Mini-event or a Greed Shrine first. Then, Pin it on your map and search for the other within a reasonable travel distance (than can be reached in less than 30 seconds, before the shrine expires)
The Specific Mini-Event you’re looking for is one where a Monster has created a Corpse, specifically the enemy will be smashing down on the soon-to-be corpse.
This Mini-event is more common in areas with Fallen, Bandits, Drowned, or the large Nangari. This makes Eastern Hawezar the perfect hunting ground for this step, with plenty of Drowned and Nangari as well as multiple shrines. Below is a map detailing many of those locations, but it is not exhaustive.
If you’re using the Ahavarion Strategy, you’ll only want to check these areas for the mini-event instead, and then locate a nearby elite to fish for the necessary shrine.
Once you’ve picked up the Greed Shrine buff, make your way back to your marked mini-event location, equip any Lucky Hit Gear if you need to swap, and interact with the corpse. Upon doing so you’ll be awarded with the Lucky Coin.
If one doesn’t drop, it’s either due to a lack of Lucky Hit Chance or you simply didn’t get lucky enough. Having High Lucky Hit Chance reduces the odds of obtaining a Lucky Coin, but it’s still possible to not get a coin while having over 100% in your stat panel.
Tips for Getting Lucky Hit Chance
With Season 15, some legacy Runeword Items from Diablo 2 were added into the pool of craftable items. Among these is King’s Grace, Crafted with a Normal Rarity (white) 1H Sword, 1H Mace, or Flail alongside the Amn, Ral, and Thul Runes in the Horadric Cube.
King’s Grace is highly recommended for this step for Seasonal Characters during S15, and Eternal afterwards if you can get one. This monster of a stack stick provides a whopping 50% Lucky Hit Chance at base, which is recommended to be increased to 87.5% by Masterworking, or even 100% if you create and Ancestral one and land Lucky Hit Chance as a Greater Affix on craft.
Outside of this, your best option is to Temper Lucky Hit chance on every slot you can (mainly armor), as well as tempering it until it lands as a Greater Affix (if item is Ancestral), and of course Masterworking it. This can net 10% per Masterworked Greater Affix.
This makes for a possible 60% across across all armor and your Amulet, no luck required. You can also Enchant your items at an Occultist to roll for Lucky Hit Chance Affixes as well to push as high as you can.
Obtaining the Ring of Misfortune
With the Lucky Coin in hand, it’s time to head East of Cerrigar in Scosglen. To where exactly? Why a Wishing Well of course! This step can be done on any difficulty.
BEFORE YOU MAKE THE MISTAKE OF SIMPLY DROPPING IN THE LUCKY COIN, YOU WILL NEED A PARTY FOR THIS STEP. Having 5 players is recommended, but it’s possible with just two players and a total of 5 coins.
To get 5 players here easily, the best method is to make a party of 4, and head to the well. Then one party member leaves and makes room for the 5th, while staying in the area.
Each of the 5 Players must be on a different class. This is because the Wishing Well will check each player’s class as their coin is dropped in, and if any duplicates are present, the Ring of Misfortune will not drop and you’ll need to gather a coin once again.
As each coin is dropped, a variety of plagues will befall the nearby players, from insects to snakes and even meteors. Once 5 Lucky Coins have been deposited, the Well will drop the Ring of Misfortune, and you’ve completed the first quest of the saga.
The Luckier Coin and Ring of the Jinx
Next up is the Luckier Coin, which as of writing this guide in Season 15, is currently the hardest of the three rings to obtain. We also have an in-depth guide for it and below is a summary of the steps required.
Obtaining the Luckier Coin
The Luckier Coin is what makes this this hardest step of the three. It went from being a guarantee back in Season 8 when it released to now being the most unreliable of the three as of Season 15.
To Obtain the Luckier Coin, you’ll need to find both a Blast Wave Shrine as well as A “Named Container”. No Lucky Hit Chance needed this time!
It’s recommended to consistently check the shrine in Lower Kurast, as if it rolls as Blast Wave, there’s a large number of named Containers nearby.
the Ahavarion Strategy also works well here, as there are many Elites here on higher difficulties, just be careful about leaving containers!
Speaking of the Named Containers, what are those exactly? Well, they’re simply containers, that display an object name when hovered over (or approached if you’re a controller player)
It’s recommended to find ones specifically named “Container”, but generally any container should work (Barrels, Jars, Baskets, etc.). Just keep in mind the spawn is not guaranteed in any way and there’s nothing to do to influence it.
Breaking the Container with a pulse from the Blast Wave Shrine will spawn a special, invulnerable Rat.
THE SPECIAL RAT WILL NOT MAKE ANY SOUNDS UPON SPAWNING. Be very careful to keep an eye out for it and not accidentally despawn it in a rush to check multiple containers.
Once spawned, you’ll need to follow the rat for some time. It was previously believed to be 429 seconds to call back to the sign, but this no longer seems to be the case. Based on reports, 2-4 minutes seems to be the expected follow time, at least currently.
After this invisible timer ends, the rat will violently explode, dropping the Luckier Coin in the process.
Obtaining the Ring of the Jinx
This time around the turn in step is as simple as delivering the coin to the correct location. In this case, you need to head over to Samuk in Nahantu. Then head to Moss-covered Grave West of town.
Here you can deposit the coin to and in return you’ll receive the Ring of the Jinx. This ring will break nearby object, similar to the Blast Wave Shrine, without the visual pulse or other benefits.
Luckiest Coin and the Amulet of Dark Omens
Finally, on to the newest section of the Lucky Coin Saga. Thankfully this last one is dreadfully simple, but will require the use of an alarm to complete successfully.
Obtaining the Luckiest Coin
This time, obtaining the Coin will require a party. Don’t worry, it’s only the standard party of 4 this time with no other requirements besides a bit of communication.
You and your party will be headed to Skartara in Skovos for this one. You’ll need to send one party member to each of the Four Elemental Golems here: Droplet, Flowing Rage, Raging Fissure, and Snagging Vein. Below is a map of their Locations. Do not kill them yet!
Lower population difficulties such as Normal, Expert, or some of the middling Torment difficulties are recommended for this step. This helps ensure the golems are alive and aren’t defeated by anyone outside your party.
BEFORE PROCEEDING FURTHER, ENSURE ALL PARTY MEMBERS ARE NEAR THEIR RESPECTIVE GOLEMS AND THE GOLEM IS CURRENTLY SPAWNED!
Once your party has all arrived at their golems and confirmed they are alive, do a quick count down and then kill all four in quick succession. There is no specific order required for this step.
As each Golem is defeated, a counter will display on screen, counting up to four.
Once the Counter reaches four, it will provide the message “From many Tempers, a single token” and the Luckiest Coin will drop. It’s highly recommended to get at least a few while you’re partied up.
Now with the Luckiest Coin in hand, you can move on to obtaining the Amulet from it.
Obtaining the Amulet of Dark Omens
Much like obtaining the coin itself, this is a simple and easy process. It’s yet another delivery-style method, with a twist.
First, head to Temis, and you’ll need to find the Pillow located on the south side of town, as shown in the image and map below.
Once here, Interact with the Pillow to deposit your Luckiest Coin. Then, wait. For a full 24 hours. Not just a full 24 hours, but exactly 24 hours at that.
TAKE NOTE OF WHEN YOU DEPOSIT THE LUCKIEST COIN AND SET AN ALARM OR REMINDER FOR YOURSELF TO COME BACK IN EXACTLY 24 HOURS.
This is very important, as you will only have a two-minute window to claim your Amulet of Dark Omens once the 24 hour timer ends. If you miss the window, you’ll have to get another Coin to try again, so hopefully you don’t miss the timing or at least picked up a couple spares.
Upon returning to the pillow in after exactly 24 hours, interacting with the pillow again will drop the Amulet of Dark Omens. Which will occasionally spawn an NPC that throws a tomato at you, applying a forced knockdown unless you’re Unstoppable.
And with that, you’ve acquired the full Unlucky Jewelry Set.
What’s Next
With the Full set of Unlucky Jewelry you can take on the Unlucky Council Encounter in an attempt to obtain a Horadric Coin, a special coin you can use that will perform a coin flip action.
No spoilers here for the fight, but if you want to take it on, you can enter the arena for the encounter by meeting the following conditions:
- In Torment 12 Difficulty
- Have all three Unlucky Jewelry pieces Equipped.
If you meet these conditions, a secret portal will become active in a very familiar cabin south of Kyovashad.
