What are Datacrons
Datacrons are small objects, holding long-forgotten lore and secrets of the Galactic History. Scattered all over the in-game worlds of SWTOR, the Datacrons are usually not easy to find or reach.
When found and opened, each Datacron gives you a piece of lore from the Star Wars universe and it adds a few points to your character’s stats: Mastery, Endurance or Presence.
There is a unique fourth type of Datacron, which yields Matrix Shards of a specific color. You can use these Matrix Shards to create a unique Relic for your character.
Why you should Collect All Datacrons
Every single Datacron you find and collect in SWTOR will permanently add a stat boost to your entire legacy of characters. The boosts vary from +2 (on the earlier planets) to +4 (on the high-level planets).
The Stats boost you gain from collecting all Datacrons available in the game is not enough to really affect your character’s performance.
The real reason you would want to collect the Datacrons is because they are incredibly fun and because if you are a completionist, you will want all of them in your Legacy as well as all of the Galactic History Codex lore and the achievement attached to obtaining all of the pieces.
How to keep track of what Datacrons you have
There are a lot of worlds hiding Datacrons in Star Wars The Old Republic. Each planet can “house” up to five Datacrons. Some have as little as two. The Fleet contains one single, but very powerful Datacron.
It’s not easy to keep track of what you have in your mind. That’s why Broadsword keeps track of your collection in the Global Unlocks tab of the Legacy Window.
The table below lists all Datacrons currently available in the game. On a few planets the same color datacron is accessible to Republic and Empire players via different paths and at different locations. In this case the Republic is listed on top and Empire below it. Click or Tab on an icon to read the dedicated guide explaining how to reach and obtain this datacron.
You can check your Galactic History Codex Entries collection in the Codex Tab of the Log window. On the left side, mark Achievements: Datacrons to view your list of Codex Entries.
Note that you will never have all of the Codex Entries on the same character. Some of the Datacrons can only be obtained by Republic Players, others only by Imperials. Your Server Legacy tracks them all together, though, so as long as you obtain a Codex Entry on any character, it counts for your entire Legacy on your server.
How and where to find Datacrons
The Datacrons are Legacy-bound and it is best that you obtain them on your highest level character. A stealth class works best as you will be able to easily avoid most encounters on the path to the Datacron. This will allow you to pass through any combat-involving challenges.
Some of the datacrons are locked behind a puzzle, others are accessible after a series of jumps and tricky movement actions. Discovering and reaching them will often engage you in combat.
Each Datacron reveals a piece of lore from the Star Wars Galactic History. In the individual guides below, I have attached the Codex Entry text for each Datacron and in the video walkthroughs you can hear a voiced-over narration of this piece of lore as well.
In the next segment of the guide you will find a complete list of all Planets in SWTOR with all Datacrons available on each one of them. You will also get instructions on how to get to the planet, what the Datacrons on it will yield to you after you pick them up and, of course, links to individual highly detailed step-by-step guides to every single Datacron and Matrix Shard.
Classic SWTOR Datacrons List
The Datacrons in the following list have been available since release. I call them the “Classic Datacrons”, although some of them have been moved around or the pathway leading up to them has been changed once or twice over the years.
The Classic Datacrons are available on the planets that SWTOR shipped with in 2011. They are generally available to characters up to level 50 and you do not need a higher level character or special access to an area that is gated behind anything else other than story progression
The list is also structured in order that follows the Galactic History Codex Entry attached to the Datacrons. This is also relatively the same path that you would follow as you level up a new character, going through the planets.
You are free to go explore and get any Datacrons in any order if you wish to and if your character is high enough level.
The table below lists all original planets from the base game with all Datacron and Matrix Shard locations.

Nar Shaddaa Datacrons List
The so-called “smuggler’s moon” is best known for one thing: anything can be bought here if the price is right. Nar Shaddaa orbits Hutta, homeworld of the Hutt Cartel, but exists as a power in its own right. Criminal organizations and legitimate enterprises operate side-by-side, regulated only by the Hutts’ whims. Gleaming skyscrapers house corporations, casinos, technology shops, spice houses and every other type of business imaginable.
Located in the direct center of Hutt Space, Nar Shaddaa is an early-game planet. Nar Shaddaa is accessible to Both factions.

The cities, like the people, are distinctly Corellian, incorporating the natural landscape into their design despite a heavy manufacturing base.

These caves produce some of the most rare and powerful lightsaber crystals in the galaxy.
The Ilum Datacrons are accessible to both Republic and Empire factions. The planet is located in the Unknown Regions. This frozen planet has no indigenous population but is home to one of the Jedi Order’s most distant outposts.

Makeb Datacrons List
Beautiful, serene and abundant in resources, Makeb has grown to become one of the greatest resort destinations in the galaxy. For a time, wealthy executives and socialites flocked to the planet to enjoy its remote locale, comfortable climate and exotic vistas without any need for concern over political entanglements. Even the more frequent occurrence of groundquakes in recent years could not place a dent in Makeb’s prosperous tourism, banking and mining trades.
Makeb was added with the first expansion to SWTOR, called Rise of the Hutt Cartel. The Two Datacrons located on this planet are accessible to both Republic and Empire players.

Rishi Datacrons List
For a very long time, Rishi remained ignored and untouched on the fringes of the Outer Rim. Its dominant species–the intelligent, avian Rishii–lived a simple and mostly serene existence on the island-flecked world. But when a pirate craft crash-landed on Rishi more than a hundred years ago, all that changed.
Rishi is accessible to both factions. All four of Rishi’s Datacrons are located together as one giant bundle at the end of a lengthy series of hidden clickable items.

Ossus Datacrons List
Devastated by the Sith centuries ago, the planet Ossus has largely been forgotten by the greater galaxy. Enshrouded in the nebular material of the Cron Drift, the planet is difficult to even reach, with those who survive the journey discovering only hazardous wastelands and abandoned ruins on its surface.
To access Ossus, you need to complete the main story leading you up to that planet. The planet and the three Datacrons on it are accessible to both Republic and Empire characters.

Now a haven for smugglers, slavers, and the criminal underworld, Mek-Sha has come to be known as the outlaw crossroads of the galaxy.

Ruhnuk Datacron
Possessing few inherent qualities to warrant colonization or scientific study, the only significant investment in the rocky fields and crevasses of Ruhnuk has been a few long-range survey droids and a limited mining operation.
To be able to access and obtain the Ruhnuk Datacron, you first need to complete Three non-repeatable Relic Hunt Missions. Both in-depth guides are linked below.

Kessan’s Landing Datacron
With the majority of Ord Mantell’s frontier operations positioned in relative safety, Kessan’s Landing is often last-in-line when receiving military and monetary support from both factions’ governments.
To be able to access and obtain the Kessan’s Landing Datacron, you first need to complete eight non-repeatable Geothermal Shielding Missions. Both in-depth guides are linked below.

Other Datacrons
There are two more types of Datacrons in SWTOR. They have a totally different role and the only thing that connects them to the other ones is the fact that they are also called “Datacrons”.
The Master’s Datacron is a completely different type of item and serves a different purpose. However, since it bears the same name, I included it here to help you learn the difference and avoid confusion. It boosts a character to a high level without locking you from any story content.
The Dark vs Light Datacrons are now useless as they were part of a time-limited event that ran oncc and has not returned yet. It was a Summer-long event called “Dark vs Light”
I hope you liked this SWTOR Datacrons Guide! If or when a new Datacron is added to the game, it will be included in the “Post-Launch” or “Other Datacrons” sections here right away.
