Rob Denton, President of Broadsword Online Games, has finally spoken about his hopes for SWTOR! Additionally, Executive Producer of SWTOR, Keith Kanneg, has announced an upcoming livestream that will show the audience a preview of SWTOR 7.4!

With the transition from BioWare to Broadsword Online Games, many players have been wondering what the future state of SWTOR will be.

We have not heard anything from the dev team regarding advancing the story since Update 7.3 which came out on June 13, 2023. Now that it’s been four months, it’s nice to hear that something is happening.

The Future of SWTOR with Broadsword

Rob Denton, President of Broadsword Online Games, introduced himself to the SWTOR community through a post on swtor.com.

Ever since SWTOR’s transition from Bioware to Broadsword, we haven’t heard much from the Broadsword team and this has left many fans of SWTOR concerned. Fortunately, he was rather optimistic with his message.

While many fans feel that SWTOR has entered “Maintenance Mode” after switching developers, both Keith and Rob have shared that they expect to see SWTOR grow in the coming years with Rob saying:

“I see a very bright future for SWTOR and our plans are already starting to take shape for new and exciting things. I have always been fond of SWTOR, and I look forward to seeing what this amazing team will create and continue to build upon in the years to come.”

This was followed by Keith Kanneg, Executive Producer of SWTOR, saying:

“I couldn’t be more pleased working with Rob and the team at Broadsword and building out future plans for SWTOR and our players.

So if you’ve felt pessimistic about SWTOR’s future, they seem to have plans to keep adding and not just maintain current content.

It’s nice to hear that Rob Denton, President of Broadsword Online Games, has brought up SWTOR for the first time. His outlook looks positive as does Keith’s, so we all can feel a bit more optimistic for future content for SWTOR.

Here are the full messages from Rob and Keith as they were posted today on swtor.com:

Hi everyone – Rob Denton here, President of Broadsword Online Games. Now that some time has passed, I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and share some details on Star Wars™: The Old Republic and Broadsword. First off, I’m thrilled that the SWTOR team has joined Broadsword. During my time at BioWare, I worked on the game (and closely with the team) for several years and helped support the 2011 launch, so it’s very near to my heart.

Keith Kanneg, as the Executive Producer, sets the vision for the game, and he’ll continue to maintain the relationship with Lucasfilm Games and Electronic Arts. Keith and I will work closely together to ensure that SWTOR continues to grow, thrive and be the amazing game that you all love.

I’ll let Keith say more about Game Update 7.4, but I see a very bright future for SWTOR and our plans are already starting to take shape for new and exciting things. I have always been fond of SWTOR, and I look forward to seeing what this amazing team will create and continue to build upon in the years to come.

Rob

Hey folks!

I couldn’t be more pleased working with Rob and the team at Broadsword and building out future plans for SWTOR and our players. I wanted to take the opportunity to check in with all of you and give an update on where we are with Game Update 7.4. The last couple of months has been incredibly busy with us launching 7.3: Old Wounds and 7.3.1 alongside technology improvements including our migration to cloud game servers. The team has been hard at work getting Game Update 7.4 out the door, and I cannot wait for players to experience the content in it.

I’m pleased to announce that we will be hosting a livestream going over the finer details of the update on October 18th at 1:30pm CT / 6:30pm UTC over on our streaming channel. During the stream, players will be hearing from a variety of voices, including myself, and will be getting a sneak peek into everything coming in 7.4.

Very excited for the team to show off what they’ve been working on, and I’m looking forward to seeing all of you very soon.

May the Force be with you!

Keith Kanneg, Executive Producer of Star Wars: The Old Republic

SWTOR 7.4 Live Stream Announcement

We don’t know the exact release date for SWTOR 7.4, but we could use previous updates as a reference. SWTOR 7.2 came out around a month after it had its own announcement live stream.

UPDATE:
Read our livestream recap to learn more about the new content and features announced for SWTOR 7.4 “Chains in the Dark”.

Meanwhile, SWTOR 7.3 was released around two months after its announcement live stream.

This pattern may mean it might be a month before SWTOR 7.4 is released, but we won’t know the exact details until the livestream starts on October 18, 2023. And they may not give us a date even then.

Stay around for more SWTOR update information! If you’re looking for guides on current content, you can never go wrong with our SWTOR Guides Master List!

Until 7.4 comes out, there’s still plenty of content in SWTOR to occupy your time. The VULKK team has recently been producing in-depth Flashpoint Guides. These guides offer excellent visuals and a breakdown of mechanics, bonus missions, and things many players might overlook in their rush to reach the final boss.
