Learn how to beat King Dodongo in The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo Switch 2. Includes tips on preventing his fiery boulder attack, how to avoid damage from his roll attack, and the key for damaging him.
Where to find King Dodongo
King Dodongo is found through the giant Dodongo skull in Dodongo Cavern. Once you enter the final room of the cavern, place a bomb in the middle of the room and jump down to start the fight with King Dodongo.
Defending Yourself
King Dodongo has attacks that are unblockable. He’ll shoot out fiery boulders that travel halfway across the room. Dodge to the side of this boulder if you see an opening, you cannot outrun it.
Between fire breath attacks, King Dodongo will roll up and roll across the room. Run away from him as fast as you can using the Dash action until he stops.
Damaging King Dodongo
To damage King Dodongo, you’ll need to throw a Bomb or Bomb Flower in his mouth as he’s charging a fire attack. He’ll swallow it and when the bomb explodes, his tongue be vulnerable to sword attacks.
He’s going to start rolling around when he gets back up. As you repeat this process, Baby Dodongos will start to appear. Defeat the babies as soon as possible so you don’t run out of time to throw a bomb. Continue this process until he’s defeated.
Rewards for defeating King Dodongo
When King Dodongo is defeated, you’ll get a Heart Container. Exiting through the portal will start a cutscene with Darunia and you’ll get the Goron’s Ruby.
This is a good time to visit the Great Fairies at the top of Death Mountain and Hyrule Castle. You have one more Spiritual Stone to get, so make your way to Zora’s River when you’re ready!
