The Blood of Dawnwalker reveals new story trailer and official release date

Rebel Wolves finally revealed the release date of The Blood of Dawnwalker, as well as a new story trailer. Here’s my breakdown.

Trailer breakdown

Thanks to some of the information released by Rebel Wolves in previous reveals, we know that Coen has 30 days to rescue his family from Brencis, the vampire overlord.

This trailer reveals that after said 30 days, Brencis intends to become a Prince through a coronation ceremony that involves eating Coen’s family. However, it’s still unclear if his family was picked as payment for saving them from the plague or as a means to test Coen.

One of the (many) things that differentiates these villains from humans is the fact that they don’t care about money. Instead, the tax they ask must be paid in blood. A simple yet terrifying idea if you consider how much blood is needed to feed four ancient vampires.

While vampires are the main antagonists of The Blood of Dawnwalker, we’ll still be able to face other dangerous creatures. Many serve Brencis while others act on their own.

Brencis has three main followers: Ambrus, Xanthe, and Bakir. All of them have different backgrounds and powers. Each one of them is a big obstacle between Coen and his family, but thankfully, Coen is not alone in this fight.

Today, we learned about four potential allies. The first two appear to also be vampires or “vrakhirs”. The first guy has the same white eyes as Coen, while the lady, named Lacra, makes it more evident by showing her claws.

I can’t say if they are also Dawnwalkers or not because they only appear in dark scenes, but they definitely don’t look as monstrous as Brencis, Ambrus, Bakir, or Xanthe.

There’s also a man named Marat who is revealed to be the leader of a rebellion against Brencis. He kills a woman in cold blood while we hear him say, “As I see it, we’re both far beyond redemption”. This already tells us that there’s going to be morally grey moments in the game.

The healer is a woman named Anca, a village healer capable of using magic. According to one of the developers, Coen eventually relies on her knowledge and resources. For a few seconds, we can see her and Coen kissing each other, so I assume she’s a potential romantic interest.

All these characters will have an impact on the story and aren’t there just to fill space as secondary characters.

Open-world games require a means of transportation, which is usually a mount. Before this trailer, we hadn’t seen Coen ride a horse anywhere, but now we know the reason for this.

Coen will be able to transform himself into a black wolf to travel faster across the Vale of Sangora. A clear inspiration from Dracula, the renowned novel by Bram Stoker.

This medieval/fantasy environment isn’t something new for players who have played The Witcher games. That is because the Polish mountains and forests heavily inspire the open world of both games.

Release date

Last but definitely not least is the long-awaited release date. The Blood of Dawnwalker is coming out September 3, 2026. The game is already available for pre-order on Steam.
