This guide will show you what Ancient Hero set looks like, what unique benefits it provides, and how to get it in The Blood of Dawnwalker!
Appearance
The Ancient Hero’s set features a Byzantine-style muscle cuirass terminating in a feather pteruge-style skirt with scale armor on the shoulders and forearms alongside leather belt and boots. The armor has a verdigris patina resulting in the green-bronze combo over black, brown, and rust orange.
Stats
The Ancient Hero set consists of 5 legendary pieces, though we’ve included our recommendations for accessories to complete the build. The entire set is classified as Heavy Armour, so you’ll need to dedicate 9 Skill Points and 8 hours to get the full benefit of its protection.
The set itself is oriented towards the Witchcraft tree with a heavy emphasis on boosting activation charge restoration and your Witchcraft abilities, making it only suited for daytime use. If you aren’t wholly invested in spellcasting, you’re better off using a different set.
Acquisition
You can loot each piece of the Ancient Hero set from different ancient Arimaspian ruins beneath Vale Sangora. You’ll have to dedicate quite a lot of time to complete the quests associated with this equipment.
Ancient Hero’s Armor
You can loot the Ancient Hero’s Armor from the boss at the end of Father Florin’s quest beneath Carpenter’s Row on the western edge of Altenmarkt in Svartrau called “A Hero’s End”.
Ancient Hero’s Vambraces
One of Xanthe’s Transports “When Two Dogs” in the Tantari Woods is carrying the Ancient Hero’s Vambraces as its precious cargo. Defeat all the enemies and you can loot it from the uriash with the backpack.
Ancient Greaves
You discover the Ancient Greaves beneath the Font of Life if you choose to destroy it at the end of Anca’s quest called “Stronger than Achilles” east of St. Tyna’s Grove in Ambrus’s Fiefdom.
This is the most missable legendary item in the game because you get it at the end of Anca’s quest chain (so she needs to survive that long) and you need to choose to destroy the Font of Life instead of either of you drinking from it.
It’s frustrating that this item was placed here instead of Erkas’s Sword or the Ancient Hero’s Ring or something, but these pants are better that the Font of Life if you’re doing a heavy Witchcraft build.
Ancient Footwear
You can loot the Ancient Footwear from a chest inside some ancient Arimaspian ruins as part of one of Xanthe’s Excavations called “Bloodied Dagger” east of Tantari. You need to use the Ritual Dagger as a key to unlock the chest, and you’ll only get the prompt after using Compel Soul with that item on the corpse in there.
The objective marker on the map disappears as soon as you dispatch the witch there, so if you do it at night, you’ll need to remember to come back during the daytime to do Compel Soul. Look for Xanthe’s banner and a small opening in the hill.
Erkas’s Sword
You can loot Erkas’s Sword from an ancient tomb in the foothills of Maragir Wealds in Ambrus’s Fiefdom as part of the quest “Champion of Old”.
Astrologer’s Ring
You can loot the Astrologer’s Ring from Aurelius’s corpse in the basement of the Silts Tower after completing the quest “Home Sweet Home” at the top of said tower in Xanthe’s Fiefdom.
To complete the quest, you need to go down the well on the second time through, then, at the funeral select Alin, Esme, and then Coen.
Ring of Focus
You receive the Ring of Focus for defeating the Jutta, Elder of Clan Gedr, the uriashi Headhunter who patrols Vale Sangora once you’ve reached Infamy VII.
There aren’t that many Headhunters, none of them respawn, and each one drops some sort of legendary loot, so they’re definitely worth doing.
The Relic of St. Dasius
The Relic of St. Dasius is a common legendary amulet that you can readily buy from accessories vendors in the late game and find as occasional enemy drop, but it’s guaranteed to be resting on a bench inside the room with the repeated drawings on the wall in Howling Keep in Xanthe’s Fiefdom.
The room you’re looking for is on the second floor opposite the veranda where you find the first lantern and the poor lady making the dresses.
Ancient Hero’s Ring and The Hand of Fate
There’s also a purple quality ring called the Ancient Hero’s Ring that you can get from the same place as The Hand of Fate, another excellent and lore-appropriate alternative to Erkas’s Swrord.
Since that ring only has 3 effects instead of 4 (and they don’t align with the stats provided by the rest of the set), we don’t recommend using it.
