Appearance
Pieter’s Mercenary set features a red and green checked tabard covering chain mail with a leather belt and boots and metal bracers.
This set likely depicts what Pieter (Coen’s father) wore in his days as a mercenary, before settling down and having kids.
Stats
The core Mercenary’s set consists of 4 legendary pieces, though we’ve included our recommendations for accessories and a sword to complete the build.
The entire set is classified as Light Armour, so you won’t need to dedicate any extra Skill Points or time to get the full benefit of its protection.
The set itself is oriented towards Swordsmanship with boosts to human survivability, making it best suited for daytime use, but the drawbacks for using it at night are limited, so long as you’re attacking with a sword rather than claws.
The sword and accessories we recommend offer boosts to many of the same stats offered by the armor pieces, including boosts to weapon critical chance and damage, alongside a greatly improved perfect block window.
Acquisition
Most of the pieces of Pieter’s Mercenary set are purchasable from vendors in Svartrau City or are associated with quests that take place nearby.
Almost all of these items are legendary quality, designed for the late game, and can only be obtained once, but their initial stats are scaled to your current level. If you go out of your way to get them early, you will be stronger in the early game, but you’ll incur ongoing costs to keep these items upgraded.
Pieter’s Garb
You can dig up a chest containing Pieter’s Garb at the base of a tree in a glade southeast of Parlita in Boar’s Back in Bakir’s Fiefdom.
You can’t dig up the chest until you’re on the relevant quest step late in a time-consuming quest called “Buried Past” that you can get from the Grocer in Maragir in Ambrus’s Fiefdom.
Mercenary’s Greaves
You can purchase the Mercenary’s Greaves from the Armourer in the heart of Altenmarkt in Svartrau City.
Mercenary’s Boots
You can purchase the Mercenary’s Boots from the Armourer in the Manumits’s hideout in the Silberstein district in Svartrau City. You must gain the trust of the Manumits by reaching Infamy IV: Notorious as part of the quest “Where Loyalty Lies”.
Mercenary’s Vambraces
You can purchase the Mercenary’s Vambraces from the Armourer in Tantari, the eastern village in Xanthe’s Fiefdom. This vendor is only available during the daytime.
The Runner-Up
You can purchase The Runner-Up from the sword blacksmith north of the Cathedral Complex in Svartrau City.
Amulet of Crimson Steel
You may be able to loot the Amulet of Crimson Steel from a chest at the soldier picket east of Svartrau Outskirts. This is where it dropped for me, and I haven’t seen it anywhere else, but Soldier Pickets seem to have random drops, so your mileage may vary.
Ring of Quick Strikes
You can loot the Ring of Quick Strikes from a chest inside some ancient ruins in the mountains of Rockfall in Bakir’s Fiefdom.
To access these ruins, you’ll need to grab the quest “The Highland Grave” from a skeleton along the main path through that area near the shrine.
Knightly Ring
You can dig up the Knightly Ring from a treasure chest in Tantari Bog on the northwestern edge of Xanthe’s Fiefdom.
The Knightly Ring is not a unique legendary item, so you can find it other places and buy it from accessory shops in the late game.
