This guide explains what Scouting Towers are, how to climb them, why you should do that, and where you can find them in The Blood of Dawnwalker.
What are Scouting Towers in The Blood of Dawnwalker?
Scouting Towers allow you to reveal multiple points of interest in nearby areas. Similar to how Viewpoints work in the Assassin’s Creed franchise.
Scouting Towers allow you to reveal multiple points of interest in nearby areas. Similar to how Viewpoints work in the Assassin’s Creed franchise.
You climb to the top of the tower, inspect points of interest, and Coen will speak a brief line that teases what you can expect to find each one.

Whether it’s a settlement, the creatures that wander there, or if it’s related to a specific quest, you will get a map marker for each location with a brief description about it.
When can you climb Scout Towers?
What makes this mechanic a bit different from what we’ve seen in other games such as Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced or Crimson Desert, is the fact that you can only climb towers during the night.

The reason is that they involve small traversal puzzles that can only be done with Shadowstep and Planeshift.
Unlike any other activities, unlocking a new tower does not spend any time segments. Additionally, there’s loot near the top of some towers.
How to climb Scouting Towers
To start climbing a tower, you need to use Shadowstep. Here’s how you do it:
- Hold E to aim
- Move the camera to the place where you want to move
- Release E to Shadowstep.

If you’re playing on console and don’t remember the controls, our Controls Guide for The Blood of Dawnwalker lists how to use Shadowstep on both Xbox and PS5 controllers.
Then, you will be using Planeshift. This allows you to walk on flat walls and ceilings. This is a passive ability, meaning that Coen will use it automatically after using Shadowstep on a flat wall or ceiling. Keep in mind that Planeshift consumes Stamina.

Running out of Stamina while in Planeshift mode means falling off a ceiling or entering Clawride if on a wall. Clawride allows you to slide down a wall without losing Stamina.

Shadowstep, Planeshift, and Clawride are abilities exclusive to Coen’s Vrakhir form. So you are only able to use them during nighttime.
All Towers but the three in Svartrau City have treasure chests near the top. The most important items found in these chests are Ability Manuals, but you can also get Consumables, Gear pieces, and Ingredients.
