Table of contents
Where to find the Currency Tab
To see currencies available for your character in SWTOR, you can open your Inventory (I key by default) and click the Currency tab.
This guide will go over each type of currency and any specifically related vendors for that currency, how to earn that currency, and what kinds of items you can spend it on.
Credits
Credits are the primary currency used by all SWTOR players. This is used for the bulk of goods you can purchase from Vendors. Some vendors may require a mixture of credits and other currencies or materials to complete a purchase. You can view your current credit balance in your Inventory window in the lower right corner.
If you purchase a Stronghold, you can gain access to a Legacy Cargo Hold. These are the yellow cargo holds with the holographic key above them, you can find them throughout your faction’s fleet. Once unlocked, you can deposit credits into them and they allow any character from your Legacy to have access to.
It’s a great way to have credits available for all your characters. Purchases made on your characters will not withdraw from your Legacy Cargo Hold, you will need to withdraw credits to use them on your characters.
Here are the known limitations for each pool:
- A Free to Play or Preferred character has a credit limit of 1,000,000.
- A character has a credit limit of 4,294,817,295 credits (requires Subscription).
- A Legacy Cargo Hold has a credit limit of 104,294,817,294 credits (requires Subscription).
- A Guild Cargo Hold has a credit limit of 4,294,967,295 credits.
Gear Upgrade Currencies
This segment of the guide explains each one of the main currencies you can use to purchase a new piece of gear or upgrade a current one to a higher tier. These currencies help you improve your character’s performance in combat.
Tech Fragments
Tech Fragments are a late-game currency that one can get from a wide variety of activities. When you’re level 80, you can easily earn tech fragments from Solo content, Conquest, PvE, and PvP. This currency is shared with all characters in your Legacy.
A popular method to earn Tech Fragments is to participate in Operations. Assuming the Operation you’re in has the standard assortment of 5 bosses, you can earn the following amount of Tech Fragments:
- Story Mode Operations typically yield 2,000 Tech Fragments.
- Veteran Mode Operations typically yield 2,500 Tech Fragments.
- Master Mode Operations typically yield 3,000 Tech Fragments.
There are exceptions where there are more or less bosses in an Operation, but these are the typical amounts.
Tech Fragments are important for obtaining and upgrading end-game gear such as Legendary Implants and Tacticals. Legendary Implants are end-game gear pieces that grant unique effects that empower your abilities.
You can learn more about how to get them and which Legendary Implants are available with our Legendary Implant Guide. And our Tactical Items full Catalog will give you recommendations on which tactical is best for which spec.
Legendary Implants can be purchased from the droid, SN-4RK, after being unlocked in the Supplies Section of the fleet.
Republic Fleet – Legendary Implant Vendor Location
Imperial Fleet – Legendary Implant Vendor Location
Tacticals offer unique ways to augment your abilities and are mandatory for late-game content. They add some flavor to your rotations and can enable you to perform even better. You can find the Tacticals vendor in the Supplies section of the fleet.
Republic Fleet – Tacticals Vendor Location
Imperial Fleet – Tacticals Vendor Location
There are plenty of other vendors near the Tacticals vendor that offer numerous goodies in exchange for Tech Fragments. Check them out but don’t bother with the random gear drops from the Spoils of War Vendor. They’re outdated gear but they serve a purpose explained later on in this guide in the OP-1 Catalysts section.
Conquest Commendations
Conquest Commendations serve as the start of the gearing journey for many. You can earn these primarily by completing your Conquest goal for the week, Heroic Missions, and some Weekly Missions.
You can find the Heroic Missions Terminal in the Combat Supply Section of the fleet. Conquest Commendations are shared with all characters in your Legacy.
Conquest Commendations are used to purchase Noble Decurion Gear from the Conquest Gear Vendor on the fleet. You can then use your Conquest Commendations to upgrade this gear with the Conquest Gear Upgrades Vendor. You can find these vendors at the Supplies section of the fleet.
This gear is good to start out with once you hit level 80, but eventually, you’ll outgrow it when you gain access to gear gained from Flashpoints, Operation, or PvP. Conquest Commendations are still needed later on as you need them to upgrade your Legendary Implants.
From our dedicated SWTOR Conquest guide you can learn everything about the system, starting with its limitations and requirements to participate and everything else you should know to fully take advantage of it.
FP-1 Stabilizers
FP-1 Stabilizers are gained from defeating bosses in Flashpoints, deconstructing Flashpoint gear drops, and Flashpoint weekly missions from Priority Mission Terminals.
You can find Priority Mission Terminals at the Supplies and Combat Training sections of the fleet. Thе FP-1 Stabilizers currency is shared with all characters in your Legacy.
Republic Fleet – Priority Mission Terminal Locations
FP-1 Stabilizers are used to purchase Elite Decurion and Supreme Decurion gear or to upgrade Decurion gear. This gear acts as a step up from the Noble Decurion Gear purchased with Conquest Commendations. Story and Veteran Mode Flashpoints drops Elite Decurion gear, while Master Mode Flashpoints drop Supreme Decurion Gear.
It is better to invest in upgrading Supreme Decurion gear. Once you get a Supreme Decurion gear piece upgraded, you can deconstruct it as part of a mission for Hyde and Zeek that unlocks Prototype Gear Modifications. These can be used to fine tune the stats in moddable gear that can allow you peak performance.
If you’re looking to get some Supreme Decurion Gear, it will be prudent to brush up on how to complete Master Mode Flashpoints. Master Mode difficulties sometimes add new mechanics that aren’t present in Story or Veteran Mode to provide a greater challenge. Check out our SWTOR Flashpoint Guides for more details!
OP-1 Catalysts
OP-1 Stabilizers are gained from defeating bosses in Operations, deconstructing Operation gear drops, and Operation weekly missions from the Operations Terminals. You can find Operations Terminals at the Supplies and Combat Training sections of the fleet. OP-1 Catalysts are shared with all characters in your Legacy.
OP-1 Catalysts are used to purchase Tionese, Columi, and Rakata gear or to upgrade said gear. Story Mode Operations drop Tionese gear, Veteran Mode Operations drops Columi gear, and Master Mode Operations drop Rakata gear.
It is better to invest in upgrading Rakata gear. Not everyone is ready for Master Mode Operations as they are challenging and require a lot of group coordination. Many prefer to purchase the Rakata gear sold at the Operations Gear Vendor and upgrade that using resources gained from Story Mode and Veteran Mode Operations.
Once you get your Rakata gear piece upgraded, you can deconstruct it as part of a mission for Hyde and Zeek that unlocks Prototype and Artifact Gear Modifications. These can be used to fine tune the stats in moddable gear that can allow you peak performance.
If you’re looking to get some Rakata gear, it will be prudent to brush up on how to complete Operations. These are mechanic intensive instances that require a minimum of 8 people to complete or can even be taken on by 16 people. Check out our SWTOR Operations Guides for more details!
WZ-1 Accelerants
WZ-1 Accelerants are gained from PvP Warzones, PvP Arenas, Galactic Starfighter, and PvP weekly missions from the PvP Mission Terminal.
You can find the PvP Mission Terminal in the Combat Training section of the fleet. This currency is shared with all characters in your Legacy.
WZ-1 are used to purchase Thyrsian Gear from the PvP Gear Vendor on the fleet. You can then use your WZ-1 Accelerants to upgrade this gear with the PvP Gear Upgrades Vendor.
You can find these vendors at the Combat Training section of the fleet. Keep in mind that Fitted Thyrsian Gear is purely cosmetic. This is the gold Thyrsian gear, instead you’ll want to purchase the blue Thyrsian gear as this provides stats and upgrades.
Upgraded Thyrsian gear can be used as part of a mission for Hyde and Zeek that unlocks Prototype and Artifact Gear Modifications. These can be used to fine tune the stats in moddable gear that can allow you peak performance.
It is best to go into warzones prepared ahead of time. You may want to first read our PvP Warzone Guides so you can get an idea what you’re in for, and to improve your performance in them.
If you’re looking to take to the skies and try out Galactic Starfighter, you’ll want to read our Galactic Starfighter Guide. The learning curve for GSF is a bit steep, but once you get the hang of it you have a good resource for WZ-1 Accelerants and Tech Fragments. It’s a very underrated game mode that’s quite fun.
Galactic Season Currencies
There are two seasonal currencies to be aware of, Galactic Seasons and PvP Seasons.
Galactic Season Tokens
Galactic Season Tokens are earned exclusively through Galactic Seasons. Check out our Galactic Seasons Guide to learn about how Galactic Seasons work.
To put it briefly, you can only earn these tokens when there is an active Galactic Season going on. If there is no Galactic Season event, you will be unable to gain these tokens.
Galactic Season Tokens can be used at the Seasonal and Non-Seasonal Rewards Vendors in the Supplies Section of the Fleet. The Seasonal Vendor offers items such as Decorations, Mounts, Dyes, and other items related to the current season.
The Classic and Non-Seasonal Reward Vendor offers discontinued decorations, discontinued season items such as companions and mounts, and Deeds to Republic and Imperial Fleet Strongholds.
You don’t get too many Galactic Season Tokens with each season, so spend them wisely.
PvP Season Tokens
PvP Season Tokens are earned exclusively through PvP Seasons. Check out our PvP Seasons Guide to learn about how PvP Seasons work. Like Galactic Season tokens, you can only earn PvP Season Tokens while there’s a PvP Season currently active.
PvP Season Tokens can be used to purchase goods from Giradda the Hutt and Tullek in the Combat Training Section of the Fleet. Tullek offers items such as Armor and Decorations related to the current season. Giradda the Hutt offers rare and discontinued armor sets, mounts, decorations and more.
If you’re looking to get some Black-Silver crystals to get your own Darksaber, you’ll want to collect PvP Season Tokens and purchase a crate of crystals from Giradda.
You don’t get too many PvP Season Tokens with each season, so spend them wisely.
Event Currencies
Every month, there are rotating events that typically last a week. Special events may last for several weeks such as the Feast of Prosperity event. These always offer great armor sets, decorations, and fun items to use on your adventures.
If you want to preview or purchase items available from the events, head to the Cartel Bazaar at your faction’s fleet! You can find all the Event Vendors there so you can know what to look forward to or purchase with spare currencies from a prior event.
You can reach the Cartel Bazaar by using the North Elevator at the Republic Fleet, or the South Elevator at the Imperial Fleet.
All World Ultimate Swoop Rally Tokens
The All World Ultimate Swoop Rally tokens are part of the All World Ultimate Swoop Rally event. Gray Helix Components
Gray Helix Components are earned during the Relics of the Gree event. You’ll have to pack some snow gear and travel to Ilum for this event. This event offers amazing looking armors, weapons, and it offers Legacy Bound Off-Hand Items such as Shield Generators, Focuses, Scatterguns, Vibrodaggers, and more.
Prosperity Tokens
Prosperity Tokens are available during the Feast of Prosperity Event. These are great for getting yourself a chef uniform, food related decorations, fun food related toys such as a food cannon, and more.
Rakghoul DNA Canisters

You’ll have to help The Hyland Organization for Rakghoul Neutralization (a.k.a. T.H.O.R.N.) protect the civilians and drive back rakghouls. You can get some nice looking armors suitable for a biohazardous environment in this event.
Snow Covered Parcel
Snow Covered Parcels are earned in the Life Day Event towards the end of the year. You have a chance to gain one by throwing snowballs at other players. Unfortunately, this means the fleet will be an icy warzone as you won’t be able to take two steps without getting hit by a snowball. The decorations, armors, and other goodies are all wonderful and fit the season. So grab your snowballs, a Wookiee friend to celebrate Life Day with, and get those parcels!
Spring Abundance Festival Ribbon
Spring Abundance Festival Ribbons are earned during the Dantooine Spring Abundance Festival event. This event is active during the Spring and involves you celebrating with locals by dancing, eating pies, or helping out a local farm with some unsavory secrets. These are used to purchase decorations, outfits, weapons, and titles unique to the event.
Planetary Currencies
Various planets offer unique currency that are often used to by Reputation locked items on that planet. Each planet has something unique to offer, so be sure to check them out!
Eternal Championship Trophy
Eternal Championship Trophies are earned for fighting in the Eternal Championship on Zakuul. If you’re looking to purchase Purple or Cyan color crystals, this is the place you’ll want to go. You can also get Hologram decorations and armor sets with this currency. The armor is outdated so you’d just be getting them for the looks.
Fleet Commendation
Fleet Commendations are earned by completing Space Missions. You’ll need to go inside your ship and access the mission terminal inside that allows you to pick up space missions. These are stat check missions, so you have to be properly equipped to win a chance at completing them.
You can use these on the fleet for ship upgrades, armors, or Galactic Starfighter Ship Requisitions. The Fleet Commendation Vendor is on the outer edge of the Galactic Trade Network Section of the fleet.
Iokath Power Shards
Iokath Power Shards are earned by completing Daily Missions on Iokath. The vendors on Iokath offer some great looking armors such as the Iokath Annihilator Armor available for Imperials. Other than that, it’s used for decorations and Iokath specific consumables.

The KDY Construction Kit Vendor can be found on the Fleet. Go to the Mission Departures elevator, select Starfighter Launch Deck, and you’ll find the vendor on this level. The vendor offers a starship decoration, a GSF ship paintjob, a mount, and armor pieces.
Ventures
These currencies are related to the Ventures. As of this time, the only Venture available is the Basilisk Prototype Venture.
Memory Chip
You can get one Memory Chip per day from the Memory Chip Storage. There’s a weekly cap of 10 and a hard cap of 20, so you’ll need to use alts to hit the weekly cap. These are used to unlock B3-S1’s ability to train for the Basilisk Prototype Venture.

Basilisk Data
There are four types of data you can earn by completing B3-S1’s Training Modules, there are: Prototype Data, Defense Systems Data, Support Systems Data, and Combat Systems Data. These are used to upgrade B3-S1 to unlock her full potential as a companion and unlock cosmetics for her.
Other Currencies
The remaining currencies come from miscellaneous sources.
Cartel Market Certificate
Cartel Market Certificates can be earned from Cartel Crates from the Cartel Market, or by random chance by using a Contraband Cartel Slot Machine from the Cartel Market. The slot machine requires Contraband Cartel Chips to use and isn’t the most reliable source for Cartel Market Certificates, but it’s immensely cheaper than Cartel Crates.
You can spend Cartel Market Certificates at the Cartel Bazaar or at the Stronghold and Crew Skills section of the fleet.
Light Side and
Dark Side Tokens
Light Side and Dark Side tokens are Archived Currencies that are no longer available to get. You might be wondering why these are even being included at all, well the answer to that is simple. The Light and Dark Side Vendors on the fleets are still available and still offer goods. Perhaps these might become available again in the future, but I wouldn’t count on it.
These vendors offered unique looking lightsaber and armor sets that didn’t necessarily look good, but they had glowing bits so that’s a plus. You can find the Light and Dark Side Vendors in the Supplies Section of the Fleet.
Cartel Coins
The Cartel Coins are the exclusive currency that can be used only in the in-game shop, the Cartel Market. Cartel Coins can be earned in very small amounts through gameplay – by completing achievements.
You can purchase Cartel Coins for real money on SWTOR’s official website or via Steam.
You can also get Cartel Coins as a gift each month if you are a subscriber and/or if you are using a security token.
Note that there are still some known and reported potential issues with purchases form Steam where you may not receive your order or it may be greatly delayed.
This concludes the SWTOR Currencies Guide. There are a lot of activities brought up throughout this guide. If you would like a more concise list of various SWTOR activities, check out our SWTOR Guides Master List!
