The patch will likely be much bigger than regular ones. Don’t rush to get it!
This article was originally posted for Game Update 4.0 KOTFE, but it is valid for absolutely each and every server maintenance that Bioware does. Listen to my advice and never rush it. You might thank me later when you hear your friends attempted to download it too soon and ended up reinstalling the whole ~35GB ^^
Right, let’s make it clear. In probably 80-90% (or higher?!) of the cases nobody would have a problem. There are those rare occasions, though, when the installer would bug out, stop, freeze or do something else… unpleasant. This is not because you did something. It’s usually your ISP or most likely on Bioware‘s server side. Unless you are very pressed and have limited time, wait at least a bit before you start downloading. Best, if you have decent interned download speed, to leave it and wait for the servers to go officially online.
It’s a tough decision in our case for today/tomorrow and the reason is… we have been waiting 11 months for this new content and the expansion. We are extremely eager to all get in it and experience the awesome Bioware Story we have been hearing about for so long.
Enough blabing on my part. Just a fair warning. It may be better to wait a couple hours and start download later than having the bad luck of something breaking your installation or the client and forcing you to reinstall. This could be extremely helpful if your interned speed is generally slow and it’s better to get later into Patch 4.0, compared to sitting and waiting for hours to download and install the whole client anew.
Why am I posting this… I have experienced absolutely all small and bigger patches the game has seen. Ever. It’s a risk in both cases.
If you check out the official forum or Reddit, you know what amount of people often have issues with patching. Better try and lower the chance for one of these problems happening to you. That’s my advice.
Good luck! I’ll see you in the new patch!
