A guide on how to get the Ocarina of Time in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo Switch 2. Includes on how to get the Ocarina of Time, lists things you should do before opening the Door of Time, and shows you how to find a secret interaction found in this stage of the game.

Returning to the Temple of Time

After collecting the Zora’s Sapphire from Princess Ruto, it’s time to return to the Temple of Time. Though, something is off as the skies are dark and ominous as you approach Hyrule Castle Town.

When you reach the gates, a cutscene will play where you’ll have your first interaction with Ganondorf. Dive into the moat where the Ocarina of Time is and you’ll start another cutscene where you learn the Song of Time.

Things to do before going to the Temple of Time

Once you proceed through the Temple of Time, you won’t be able to come back here to do things as Child Link for a while. If you haven’t done so already, you should do the following tasks:

Visit the Great Fairies

There are three Great Fairies you can meet at this point in time. They’re found at the top of Death Mountain, at the dead end past Hyrule Castle’s first gate, and in the southeast corner of Zora’s Fountain.

The Death Mountain Fairy will give you the Din’s Fire for 25 rupees, the Hyrule Castle Fairy gives you the Improved Spin for 50 rupees, and the Zora’s Fountain Fairy gives you Farore’s Wind for 100 rupees.

Grab some Bottles

You should be able to get four out of five bottles by now. You can get these from:

  • The Potion Shop in Hyrule Castle Town by catching a bug for the shopkeeper
  • Lon Lon Ranch by finding Talon’s Super Cuccos
  • Finding the Cucco Lady’s Cuccos in Kakariko Village
  • The bottle that contained Princess Ruto’s Letter

Learn Epona’s Song

Talk to Malon who’s singing in the middle of Lon Lon Ranch. She’ll ask if you have an instrument, and pulling out your ocarina will have her teach you Epona’s Song.

Learn the Sun Song

Trust me, this one will save you a LOT of trouble for what is yet to come for several reasons. Go to the Graveyard in Kakariko Village and play Zelda’s Lullaby on the Triforce Emblem in front of the Royal Family’s Tomb.

Get past the Redead and read the monument at the end of the tomb. This will teach you the Sun’s Song, which can let you change it to night or day, and provide a way to deal with the undead.

Learn the Scarecrow’s Song

On the shores of Lake Hylia, going towards the Fishing Pond, there are a couple of scarecrows. Talk to the one named Bonooru and make your own song for him, this will be useful very soon.

Get the Adult’s Wallet

If you find and collect 10 Gold Skulltula Tokens, you can get the Adult’s Wallet in the House of Skulltula located in Kakariko Village. With more money, you can get access to things that only Adult Link can use.

Purchase Magic Beans

If you get at least 4 or more Magic Beans from the man at the start of Zora’s River, you can plant these to later get Pieces of Heart. Planting at least 4 will get you another Heart Container, but getting even more to round off any you currently have helps with the effort.

Unlock Bomb and Deku Nut Capacity Upgrades

To increase your bomb capacity, you can get upgrades from two sources: as a prize from the Bombchu Bowling Alley, and from the Hot Rodder Goron in Goron City.

The order in which you get the upgrades in is not important. They will upgrade your bags based on their current capacity.

Win at the Bombchu Bowling Alley twice for an upgraded Bomb Bag. For the Hot Rodder Goron, you’ll need to bomb the Goron at the sign on the lower red floor for the second Bomb Bag upgrade. It’s easiest to do while standing in his way, holding a bomb.

For the Deku Nut capacity upgrades, you’ll need to complete the Happy Mask Salesman sidequest and get the Mask of Truth. Both of the Deku Nut capacity upgrades are found in the Lost Woods.

In the area past the Zora’s River shortcut, make a left and you’ll find a large tree amidst some shrubs. Walk towards the butterflies grouped above the shrubs and you’ll be taken to a secret grotto. This takes you to the Forest Stage.

Wear the Mask of Truth at the stage. The Deku Scrubs will deem you so frightening, they’ll give you a Deku Nut capacity upgrade just to make you go away.

Continue going through the Lost Woods and in the area before the Sacred Forest Meadow is a boulder. Blow it up to reveal a secret grotto and purchase the Deku Nut capacity upgrade from the Business Scrub here. This will cost 40 rupees, a deal so good that it’s nuts!

Purchase some Bombchus

At night, the Bombchu Store in Hyrule Castle Town opens. These funny little bombs crawl on floors and walls before detonating. Get some as they’re not only fun, but useful for hitting distant enemies!

If you want some practice, go to the Bombchu Bowling Alley and get some practice there. You can even win a Piece of Heart if you do well enough.

Stock up on Supplies

Get some milk, pink fairies, save up some rupees, refill on bombs and Deku Nuts, get whatever you feel you’ll need for what’s to come. Things are going to get more challenging, it’s best to be prepared.

The Fallen Soldier

This is an easter egg that’s very easy to miss. After obtaining the Ocarina of Time but before unlocking the Door of Time, you can find a wounded soldier in the Back Alley of Hyrule Castle Town.

Unlocking the Door of Time

Stand before the altar in the Temple of Time and play the Song of Time. This, combined with the three Spiritual Stones, will unlock the Door of Time and reveal the Master Sword. Pull the sword out of it’s pedestal and enjoy the cutscenes to come! I hope you followed our advice and prepared yourself!
