How to unlock the quest
“Mayan Mysteries” is a side quest unlocked during the main quest “This Old Cove“. James Kidd shows you a Mayan Stelae. This is a simple puzzle that indicates the location of a hidden Mayan Stone.
Counting the stone you already acquired, there are 16 of these stones spread around the entire map.
How to solve the puzzles
To solve these mini puzzles, you need to match the symbol to the objects. You can rotate, move, and zoom the image until it fits properly. The fit doesn’t have to be absolutely perfect, but the margin for misalignment is narrow.
In the next segment of this guide, we will show you all 16 locations and the correct position to complete each one of the puzzles.
All 16 Mayan Stele Locations
The following list shows all remaining 15 Mayan Stele locations, algonside the solution for each one of them and the precise coordinates for those who might not have visited these locations.
Sacrifice Island
The Mayan Stele is located right behind the south viewpoint. Coordinates: 18,548.
Tulum
While Tulum can be tricky to navigate, reaching this place is not. All you have to do is follow the main road. The first time you come here is during the main quest “…Everything is Permitted”. Coordinates: 30,382.
Santanillas
This Mayan Stele is easily accessible due to the small size of the island. The story takes you here during Murder and Mayhem, but you can come back anytime. Coordinates: 187,220.
Misteriosa
Misteriosa is home to two Mayan Stelae. One is located southwest of the island’s viewpoint and the second one is east of it.
East
Located on the edge of a hill. The rowboat you can take back to the Jackdaw is nearby. Coordinates: 237,17.
Southwest
This is next to the ocean. The area is being watched by soldiers, you need to eliminate them before interacting with the puzzle. Coordinates: 265,171.
Isla Providencia
Isla Providencia becomes available naturally as part of the main quest “Marooned“.
There are two Mayan Stelae here. One is located on the north side of the island, while the other is on the southwest side. Both are very close to the respective Viewpoints of said areas.
North
The first one is on the edge of a Mayan structure. Coordinates: 487,33.
Southwest
The second one’s area is filled with soldiers. You need to get rid of them to avoid being interrupted. Coordinates: 476,16.
Cape Bonavista
This Mayan Stele is in the middle of the jungle. You will find it infront of a waterfall. I suggest that you use the shore on the west side of the shore due to its more direct route. Coordinates: 159,584.
Matanzas
The Mayan Stele is on the southeast side. Please note that, since Matanzas is a plantation, it’s filled with soldiers. Coordinates: 311,617.
Castillo de Jagua
Like some of the previous locations, Castillo de Jagua is home to two Mayan Stele. One on the east side of the island, and another one on the southwest.
East
This Mayan Stele is just 54m away from the viewpoint. Facing the lower ground of this area. Coordinates: 311,354.
Southwest
This area is guarded by multiple guards. You can sneak past them but I recommend killing all of them. Being spotted in the middle of the puzzle results in an interruption. Coordinates: 303,452.
Long Bay
This Mayan Stele is deep in the jungle. It’s exactly next to the Observatory’s entrance. You will get access to this area while doing the main quest “The Observatory”. Be wary of the jaguars and crocodiles that are in the area. Coordinates: 502,216.
Cat Island
There’s just one Mayan Stele on Cat Island. There’s a warehouse very close to it, meaning that the area is guarded by soldiers. You can follow the shoreline on the north side of the island until you spot it. Coordinates: 703,670.
New Bone
Located on the northwest side of the island, very close to the warehouse. Out of all the places in this guide, this is the one with most guards. If you are spotted, better prepare for a long fight. Coordinates 400,91.
Tortuga
The last Mayan Stele is next to a road that connects the beach with the plantation, near the rowboat. Coordinates: 846,352.
Rewards
Once you have found all stones and placed them on the door of the Mayan Temple, you will be able to claim the Legendary Mayan Outfit and Yax Tun Pendant.
The uniqueness of the Mayan Outfit makes it stand out from the other outfits in this game. While the Yax Tun Pendant negates the damage of every single gunshot.
