What are Viewpoints?

Viewpoints are a staple feature in the Assassin’s Creed series. These points are high up and offer a view of the surrounding area. When you reach a viewpoint, you’ll fill in a part of your map with points of interest in the surrounding area. You’ll know you’re close if you see the hawk perched on the viewpoint.

These points of interests can be other viewpoints, unexplored locations, vendors, you name it. Using these viewpoints will help you spot locations of animals to hunt, collectibles like the Mayan Stones, or the location of treasure chests. They will not point out the locations of secrets, those will require more effort to find.

Viewpoints will remove fog of the surrounding area on the map. If you want to remove the fog from the ocean without traveling there, then you’ll want to take over Forts to do that.

Viewpoint Locations on the Map

As you sail across the ocean, you might come into proximity of locations that appear as question marks. If you get close enough, you can find out if it’s a Jungle, Camp, Plantation, City, Cave, Fort, or Ruins.

When you’re looking for Viewpoints, they’ll only appear in cities, jungles, camps, plantations, and ruins. You can tell which is which by the following icons:

Ruins

The bulk of locations you’ll encounter will only have one viewpoint. Given the size of the small islands, it isn’t very hard at all to find them. They’ll appear on your map and compass when you step foot on the islands and get close enough to the viewpoints.

Cities and Ruins on the other hand tend to have multiple viewpoints. A couple exceptions to this are Port Royal and Cape Bonavista. You can find the various viewpoints on the following map:

You may want to rush around the map to collect all of the viewpoints. Be cautious as the sea and those inhabiting it are unforgiving. If you want to survive in the more dangerous waters, you’ll need to invest in some ship upgrades.

Cape Bonavista and Havana

You’ll only be able to find one Viewpoint in Cape Bonavista during the intro mission, Edward Kenway. You’ll need to return later with your ship into the small bay to reach the other one. Overall you’ll find two viewpoints in Cape Bonavista, and nine in Havana.

Great Inagua

Even though Great Inagua only houses one viewpoint, it’s important to know where it is as you’ll need to return to this island quite often. It’ll be near the Manor on the higher elevation on the eastern portion of the island.

Isla Providencia

You’ll find Isla Providencia at the bottom right corner of Serranilla and holds three viewpoints. This area is very dangerous to reach, so you can either fully upgrade your ship or let the story take you there eventually.

Kingston

The capital of Jamaica, Kingston will have six viewpoints available. If you want to get a couple more, make a short trip south to Port Royal.

Long Bay

Long Bay is located on the northwestern portion of Jamaica. You’ll find two viewpoints in this area. Try to not get eaten by jaguars while you’re there, it’s not a good time if you do.

Nassau

The Pirate Haven of Nassau holds a total of six viewpoints. So long as you aren’t put off by the drunken and disease ridden pirates, it shouldn’t be hard to find the viewpoints here.

Port Royal

An extremely short trip south of Kingston is Port Royal, home of two whole viewpoints. If you’re a fan of the Pirates of the Carribean movies, you might recognize this place from the first movie.

Príncipe

On the island of Príncipe, you’ll find two viewpoints. As you’re in the area later on in the game, pick up the other collectibles while you’re here as there isn’t much here.

Sacrifice Island

A short trip north of Tulum is Sacrifice Island. Don’t let the name, jaguars, or nearby fort shooting at you scare you. You should brave the dangers to collect these two viewpoints.

Tulum

On the eastern coast of Mexico lies the ruins at Tulum. You’ll find two viewpoints at this location.
