Legendary Ships make for the hardest naval battles in Assassin’s Creed Resynced. We’ll show you how to unlock them, how to prepare for them, and show you how you can fight them again once defeated.
What are Legendary Ships
Legendary Ships are boss encounter ships in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. They provide the most difficult naval battles in the entire game. To defeat them, you’ll need to be as smart as you are ruthless.
There are four Legendary Ships encounters you can run into. These are El Impoluto, HMS Fearless and Royal Sovereign, HMS Prince, and La Dama Negra.
You didn’t misread there, in one of these encounters you’ll fight two Legendary Ships at the same time. Each ship has their own gimmick which you’ll need to work around or work with depending on the encounter.
How to unlock Legendary Ships
Unlocking Legendary Ships requires you to take over certain Forts. These are the Forts located in the regions on the corners of the map.
- Fort Dry Tortuga unlocks El Impoluto
- Fort Eleuthera unlocks the HMS Fearless and Royal Sovereign
- Fort Navassa unlocks the HMS Prince
- Fort Serranilla unlocks La Dama Negra
You can unlock your first Legendary Ship as soon as you get the Jackdaw at the start of the game. If you take over Fort Dry Tortuga early on to get the Double Shot weapon, you’ll unlock El Impoluto early on.
This doesn’t mean you should fight it, El Impoluto and the other Legendary Ships are incredibly dangerous and should be treated seriously.
El Impoluto
El Impoluto is the fastest of the Legendary Ships. It’ll use this speed to repeatedly ram into you, sail away, and repeat the process. There is no way for you to catch up to it as its default speed is faster than your Ram Dash speed.
HMS Fearless and Royal Sovereign
The HMS Fearless and Royal Sovereign work as a pair to sail by, sandwiching you while unloading their broadside cannons on you at the same time. They are as spiteful as they are cooperative as sinking one before the other will cause the other to enrage.
HMS Prince
The HMS Prince is the most elusive of the Legendary Ships. It’ll use the cover of fog to launch mortars at you. You’ll only survive if you have keen eyes to spot its mortar fire or see its silhouette when lightning strikes.
La Dama Negra
La Dama Negra is the most durable of the Legendary Ships. Damage against her broadsides will do almost nothing, so careful shot placement is key to survive against her. Despite her remaining stationary for half the fight, she’s hardly a sitting duck.
Preparing to fight Legendary Ships
The number one thing to prepare for El Impoluto is to fully upgrade the Jackdaw and unlock all of its weapons. Though good gear can only take you so far, you’ll need skill to back them up.
Hone your Skills
You need to master the timing of your Perfect Brace to reduce damage. Additionally, get a feel for Deadman’s Cohort Mortars as they’re useful in every Legendary Ship encounter.
Restock and Reload
Some abilities such as the Ram Dash can only have their cooldowns reset by hitting enemy ships or docking. Be sure to dock and fully restock on ammunition before taking on a Legendary Ship.
The last thing you’ll want is to be out of ammo and a couple of mortar shots away from a kill, only for the ship to ram into you causing you to desynchronize.
Monitoring Distance
One thing to note is that you should mark Legendary Ships with your Spyglass. So long as they are marked, you’ll know their location and distance. The distance is particularly important so you can know which weapon to use in a given scenario.
- Chain Shot has a range of 250 meters.
- Double Shot has a range of 300 meters.
- Round Shot has a range of 270 meters.
- Heated Shot has a range of 175 meters.
- Heavy Shot has a range of 80 meters.
- Mortar and Deadman’s Cohort Mortar have a range of 125 to 500 meters.
Legendary Ship Shared Mechanics
While each ship has its own gimmick or mechanic, there are some shared mechanics that each of these Legendary Ships will follow. Assuming you fight efficiently, you can expect the fight to last between 8 to 15 minutes in length.
Legendary Ship Aggro Range
Legendary Ships have a very wide aggro range. You’ll start the fight against them when you get within 550 meters of them. A cutscene will play and they’ll start the fight with their signature attack.
Whenever you start a fight, the Jackdaw will be at a full stop even if you were at Full Sail previously. There’s nothing you can do about this.
Arena Size
The Legendary Ships have a wide range for their “arena”. This is seen by a massive green circle on the map. If you get too close to the border, the Legendary Ships will drop aggro and go back to the center.
If you leave the area entirely and their health bar(s) disappear, they will reset and regain any lost health. If you need to run away, expect to be chased for a while.
Last Man Standing
The most difficult part of all the Legendary Ship encounters is that health is finite. There are no remedies for the ships, every pixel of health on the screen is important. There can be only one survivor in a fight, so you’ll take them down first.
You’re generally in good standing in a fight if you have more health than the other ship. Be careful if your health is about equal to the Legendary Ship as it can go either way. If your health is lower, it might be best to reload from your last autosave and try again as the odds are not in your favor by this point.
Rewards for defeating Legendary Ships
Each ship encounter will grant you 12,000 Reales, a model of the ship for your Manor on Great Inagua, and ship vanities used by the defeated Legendary Ship.
Fighting Legendary Ships Again
If you ever want to give another go at the Legendary Ships, they will respawn once you’ve defeated all of them once. From there, they’ll be available for another fight and will grant 6,000 Reales when defeated. They’ll respawn after some time passes, so there’s always a good fight if you need one.
Achievements
The Legendary Ships are going to be a required activity if you’re an Achievement Hunter. With these fights, you can unlock the Devil of the Caribbean and the Dilettante achievements.
- Devil of the Caribbean – Defeat all Legendary Ships
- Dilettante – Fill all Art Collection and Equipment slots in the Great Inagua manor. These items are also found in quests, sold by vendors, or obtained when defeating a new ship for the first time.
