Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced doesn’t miss the fact that treasure maps leading to riches are a staple in any good pirate adventure. We’ll show you how to collect all Map Fragments, how to restore them, and what treasures (loot) you’ll find.
What are Restored Maps and Map Fragments?
To unlock the ability to Restore Maps from Map Fragments, you’ll need to perform a few required Hideout Upgrades to unlock the Treasure Dealer vendor in Great Inagua.
Apart from selling you items in exchange for Trade Goods and Wildlife Products, you’ll also gain access to the map restoration option. Here you’ll see 5 different maps listed for restoration: Yellowed Map, Tattered Map, Weathered Map, Digested Map, and Preserved Map.
You’ll have to find the different Map Fragments required from different activities that usually involve exploring every nook and cranny of the world map.
Once you’ve collected all fragments for a map, you’ll have to pay the Treasure Dealer with Reales and Trade Goods for him to restore the map for you. You can find the restored maps in your Codex.
When you inspect these maps, you’ll find a picture with the treasure’s coordinates. Now it’s time to visit those coordinates and feel like a true pirate digging up some buried treasure.
Yellowed Map Pieces
These are the most difficult to collect by far. You need to collect 10 Yellowed Map Pieces to restore the Yellowed Map. These can be earned as rewards for Trade and Piracy Missions that are part of the Fleet Planning side activity.
What makes this so difficult is that the missions containing these Map Fragments as rewards appear randomly. Completing Trade Missions takes time, anywhere between 20 minutes to 1 hour. It took our team around 16 hours to gather all Yellowed Map Pieces.
Once you gather all 10 pieces, take them to the Treasure Dealer. You’ll have to pay him 100 Aloe and 500 Reales, and he’ll give you the Restored Yellowed Map in exchange.
This Treasure Map will point you towards the northern side of Black Island in Gibara at the coordinates (915,617).
The buried chest contains the Obsidian Sails, the Helm of the Night Owl legendary ship vanity, and the sea shanty “The Wellerman”.
This set of black sails has the Assassin’s Brotherhood logo on them, which makes them combine very well with the Jackdaws pirate flag.
The Helm of the Black Owl could be a reference to Assassin’s Creed Odyssey with a very Greek-inspired look and a carved owl, which is Athena’s symbolic animal.
Tattered Map Pieces
The Tattered Map Pieces can be obtained by engaging in Naval Combat with Pirate Hunter ships. They appear as rewards for looting the Captain’s Lockbox from Hunter Frigates and Man O’ Wars, which start appearing at Wanted Level 3 and 4.
You’ll have to destroy quite a few ships to increase your Wanted Level. While it can be very fun, just make sure to repair the Jackdaw from time to time.
My preferred location to cause mayhem and destruction overseas is in front of Fort Serranilla at (317,120).
Collect 3 Tattered Map Pieces, and the Treasure Dealer can restore them in exchange for 300 Sugar and 500 Reales.
The Restored Tattered Map contains coordinates to Florida at the northeast part of Dry Tortuga. You’ll find a Buried Treasure Chest at (381,803).
As your reward for terrorizing the Spaniard and British ships, you’ll receive three Ship Vanity items: the Elite Wheel, Gilt Lined Sails, and the Sleek Crew Attire.
The Gilt Lined Sails are a very expensive-looking set of sails with a striking blue and gold color scheme.
Both the Elite Wheel and the Sleek Crew Attire have an emerald theme, with the wheel having incrusted green gems and the crew sporting very shiny green vests and trousers.
Weathered Map Pieces
There are 6 Weathered Map Pieces. For 5 of them, you’ll have to visit all 5 caves available in the game: San Juan, Jiguey, Petite Caverne, Anotto Bay, and Ambergris Key.
Inside these caves, you’ll find smuggler dens. Here you need to locate an enemy that’s holding a key and take it from them, either by pickpocketing them or by killing them and looting their corpse.
Once you have this key in your possession, you’ll be able to open special locked chests. All of them contain a Weathered Map Piece along with some other goodies.
The sixth Weathered Map Piece can be purchased from the Treasure Dealer for 200 Spice.
San Juan
Located at (454,462) inside the Cruz region. The entrance to this cave is below water so you’ll have to dive to get inside. The entrance is surrounded by a group of jellyfish; that’s the best way to spot it.
The entrance is a long tunnel with areas where you can swim up to catch your breath. Once you make it through the tunnel, you’ll find yourself inside the Smuggler’s Den. The chest is located on the left side of the room.
Jiguey
This cave is located at (535,511) in the Gibara region. The entrance is on the side of a cliff through a fracture in the wall. Just get off the Jackdaw and swim towards it.
This Smuggler’s Den is located inside a grotto with a big body of water at the center connected to the sea. You’ll find the locked chest while diving at the center of this natural pool.
This chest, apart from containing a Weathered Map Piece, will also include the Cannon-Barrel Pistols.
Petite Caverne
This cave is located to the east of the map at (870,232) in the Punta Guarico region. The entrance to this cave is cut on the side of a cliff leading into a huge grotto filled with wooden structures.
This is a bigger Smuggler’s Den, but it’s easier to find the key and chest. Once inside, climb the wooden wall to the left.
This will take you right to the platform where the chest is located, with the smuggler holding the key standing right in front of it.
Anotto Bay
This cave is special because this is where you’ll find Blackbeard’s Treasure once you advance enough through the main story. Once that happens, an additional section of the cave will become accessible.
It’s located at (590,245) in the Charlotte region. The entrance is located underwater through a series of submerged mining shafts where you’ll be occasionally attacked by sharks.
The Smuggler’s Den is located deep in the mines inside a sealed-off room, where the smugglers are bickering about being stuck there. You’ll find the locked chest on the left side of the room.
Ambergris Key
This cave is located at (43,153) in the Chinchorro region. All these caves are accessible at any point, but be careful with this one in particular. If you travel here unprepared, you could find trouble with the ship patrols roaming around.
The entrance is also underwater through a tunnel filled with jellyfish, which makes it very easy to spot.
This Smuggler’s Den is inside the excavation site of an underground structure. You’ll find the enemy holding the key near the far back wall.
The final chest needed to gather all the Weathered Map Pieces will be waiting for you on the right side of the room.
Once you’ve acquired all the map pieces, you’ll be able to buy the Restored Weathered Map from the Treasure Dealer in exchange for 150 Spice and 500 Reales.
The map will point you to the coordinates (914,124), which are located in Mystery Island. You’ll find the chest inside a pit with a large haystack surrounded by the bones of some enslaved workers.
As a reward for finding this chest, you’ll get two very interesting legendary weapons. The Persian Scimitars that work great if you favor getting long kill chains. Meanwhile, the Gargoyle’s Breath Pistols fire explosive rounds but consume 100 Reales with each shot.
Digested Map Pieces
These are easy to find, but it might take a bit of time to get them. You’ll need to find 2 Digested Map Pieces. To get them, you’ll have to hunt and skin the White Jaguar at Great Inagua.
What makes getting the Digested Map Pieces unpredictable is that the White Jaguar has a longer respawn time than other jaguars, and you’re not guaranteed to get a map piece when you skin it. This may take you more than two tries to complete.
Once you manage to get both pieces, go to the Treasure Dealer and pay him 200 Rum Barrels and 500 Reales to get the Restored Digested Map.
This map points to the coordinates (188,215) at Santanillas within the Chinchorro region. The location is below a pyramid going through a small opening in the wall.
Inside this chest you’ll find the Hunter Outfit and Hunter’s Amulet, which has the very underwhelming effect of reducing animals’ detection radius.
Preserved Map Pieces
To restore the Preserved Map, you’ll have to find 4 Preserved Map Pieces. These can be found by looting Warehouses.
Not every Warehouse will contain one map piece because their drop rate is random, so you’ll have to visit a few in order to obtain all 4. While these take an hour to respawn, you can use Scout Missions from Fleet Planning to reduce this time to 15 minutes.
Once you’ve gathered them, the Treasure Dealer will sell you the Restored Preserved Map for 150 Tobacco and 500 Reales.
This map will lead you to Sacrifice Island at (14,554) inside the Conttoyor region. You’ll find the buried chest on the outskirts of the northern side of the island.
Inside the chest, there will be one of the coolest outfits for Edward, the Shade and Shadow Robes, as well as the Wooden Eyeball Legendary Trinket, which makes quick shooting kill Brutes instantly.
