Hunting is an essential side activity in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced as it allows you to fully upgrade your gear. We include coordinates for all land wildlife locations that are used for crafting upgrades.
How Hunting works in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced
All across the islands that form the game’s open world, there are 13 different animal species you can find such as rabbits, iguanas, wild pigs, and even three different types of jaguars.
When you kill an animal, you’ll get the option to skin it. This will give you the skin of the animal, and a small chance to get a Bone.
Whenever you synchronize with a Viewpoint, the animals available for hunting in that region will become visible on your map. You can then keep track on your map which island has which animals, and if you’ve hunted them there as seen by the check mark.
You can hunt as you explore the map with a few caveats. There are a few locations such as Príncipe and Isla Providencia that are locked before you reach them through the main story.
Track down the Animals
To start hunting, first open your map and start tracking the animal you’re looking for with the Pathfinder. This will show you the general area they’re in, not their exact location.
Once you reach this area, the best way to locate the animals is to use your Eagle Vision to highlight any living creatures.
Hunting both Predator and Prey
Once you’ve found the animal you’re hunting, you have to kill them, this can be accomplished in a couple different ways.
If you get too close, most animals will run away. More aggressive animals such as Wild Pigs or predators will instead attack you. If you use your pistols to hunt, you run the risk of alerting nearby enemies.
My recommendation is that you use Sleeping Darts with your Blow Pipe. This incapacitates your target and you can just approach them and perform an assassination. This is also more humane than shooting with a pistol, save that for the Templars.
After putting down your target you have to interact with them to get your rewards. This is an important activity as many of the materials earned from Hunting are used for Crafting Upgrades, as well as getting gear from the Treasure Dealer.
Helpful Tips and Tricks
- Whenever you visit a new Island, make sure to hunt the local wildlife.
- As soon as you reach Havana, look for the Exotic Sea Shells trinket. It doubles the amount of Wildlife Materials you can get.
- Upgrade your Sleeping Darts to increase their effect time.
List of all Animal Types
In the next part of the guide, we will give you the exact coordinates of the locations of every type of animal and instructions how to hunt them down and what rewards they provide.
Black Jaguars
These are incredibly fierce and dangerous animals. If they spot you or you attack them, they will fight back. Parry or dodge their attacks if they get too close.
These animals can be found in 4 different locations. Two locations are in Pinos Isle, Castillo de Jagua, and the other two are on Isla Providencia, Serranilla.

Black Jaguar Pelts are only used for crafting the Feline Pelt Outfit from the Treasure Dealer.
Capuchin Monkeys
Capuchin Monkeys can be found atop trees and are often found in pairs. If you shoot at them with your pistol, the rest will flee. If you use the Sleep Dart with your blowgun the fall will kill them.
Capuchin Monkeys can only be found in two locations, both of which are inside the Serranilla region on the southwest section of the map. Because very strong ships prowl around this region, you’ll get access to these animals late in the game.

Capuchin Monkey Pelts are needed for upgrading your Pistol Ammo Pouch, as well as for crafting the Peaceful Means Pistols from the Treasure Dealer.
Crocodiles
One of the most aggressive and resilient animals if you fight them head-on, so use the Sleeping Darts to make the process easier.
You’ll find them inside and around bodies of water in five different locations across the Conttoyor, Dry Tortuga, Eleuthera, and Serranilla regions.

Crocodile Leathers are needed for upgrading your Sleep Darts. These are also used for crafting the Matched Golden Swords, my personal favorites.
Deer
These animals are very skittish and run away if they see you, which they can do from fairly far away, so avoid approaching them directly.
You’ll find them in three different locations spread around the Gibara, Chinchorro, and Novassa regions. Deer Hides are needed for upgrading your Berserk Darts, as well as for purchasing the Matched Golden Swords.

Howler Monkeys
These are the most common animals, as all monkeys in this list you’ll find them atop trees and in pairs, so use one of your ranged weapons to put them down.
Being the most common animals, you’ll find them in 5 different locations spread among the Eleuthera, Dry Tortuga, Conttoyor, Navassa, and Punta Guarico regions.

Howler Monkey Skins are used for unlocking the first level upgrade of your Dart Pouch, increasing the amount of darts for both your Sleep Darts and Berserk Darts. Additionally, they are required to purchase the Pallas Athena Figurehead from the Treasure Dealer.
Hutia
These rodents are very sneaky. If they spot you approaching them they are very fast at running away so make sure to keep your distance and use the Eagle Vision to locate them.
They can be found in three locations across Gibara, Punta Guarico, and Castillo de Jagua. Interestingly, two of these locations are caves. They are the only animals you can hunt inside caves.

Hutia Hides are used for unlocking the second-level upgrade of your Smoke Bomb Pouch. They are also used to purchase the Pallas Athena Figurehead from the Treasure Dealer.
Iguanas
These reptiles have one of the best in-game models available in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. They are very fast and skittish, so hit them from a distance if you can.
They can be found in three different locations across Eleuthera and Gibara, making them one of the easiest animals to visit in the early game.

Iguana leathers are used for unlocking the first level Health Upgrade. They can also be used to purchase the Peaceful Means Pistols.
Jaguars
One of three different types of Jaguars you can find in the game, they are as aggressive as they are beautiful. They roam a lot so you might need to explore a bit to find them.
These magnificent animals can be found in three different locations across Dry Tortuga and Conttoyor.

Jaguar Pelts are needed for unlocking the third level Health Upgrade, as well as for purchasing the Feline Pelt Outfit.
Ocelots
They have the same behaviors as Jaguars, only they are smaller and a bit faster. These are the first animals you hunt in the game as part of the tutorial quest, This Tyro Captain.
These adorable wild kitties can be found in two different locations in Eleuthera and Punta Guarico.

Ocelot Pelts are used during a tutorial quest to unlock the first Pistol Holster upgrade. They are also used to purchase the Feline Pelt Outfit .
Rabbits
These are the animals you can more easily find near some of the biggest cities in the game world. They are fast and not that easy to spot without using the Eagle Vision.
These animals can be found across 4 different regions: Eleuthera, Conttoyor, Chinchorro, and Navassa.

Rabbit Pelts are only used for unlocking the second Pistol Holster. This is an incredibly useful upgrade, so hunt those rabbits as soon as you can. You can also use Rabbit Pelts to purchase the Masterwork Blades.
Red Howler Monkeys
These are the rarest animals thanks to the fact that they can only be found on an island locked until a certain part of the game. They also have a decidedly disturbing image in their Codex Entry.
Red Howler Monkeys can only be found in Isla Providencia, which is an Island in the southernmost part of the map as part of Serranilla. This Island becomes available as part of the main story quest, Marooned. Isla Providencia is located at the coordinates (480,17).
Red Howler Monkey Skins are used for upgrading your Dart Pouch to the second level. They’re also required to purchase the Pallas Athena Figurehead from the Treasure Dealer.
White Jaguars
The third and last of the three different types of Jaguars you can find in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. They have the same behaviors as the other two, so be careful when approaching them.
The single White Jaguar in the game can be found in Great Inagua. Going through the basement of the manor, you’ll soon find it prowling around the abandoned huts at the coordinates (825,439)
White Jaguar Pelts are only used for crafting the Feline Pelt Outfit. There’s also a chance that it’ll drop a Digested Map Piece. You’ll need two of these to restore it as a map at the Treasure Dealer. Return here later after the White Jaguar respawns to get the other piece.
Wild Pigs
The second most common animals in the game, Wild Pigs are very territorial and will attack you if you get too close. They are also very resilient to melee strikes and even to pistol shots.
These sturdy animals can be found in 5 different spots across 4 locations in Eleuthera, Dry Tortuga, and Gibara.

Wild Pig Hides are used for crafting the first level of the Pistol Ammo Pouch. They’re also used for purchasing the Masterwork Blades.
Alternative to Hunting in Black Flag Resynced
If you’re not fond of hunting wildlife, you don’t have to hunt them in order to get the components. The alternative method will require you to perform some Hideout Upgrades. You’ll need to get the General Store II and the Treasure Dealer vendor unlocked.
These vendors offer you a way to acquire wildlife components without hunting or harpooning. A General Store II will sell all land wildlife components for bones, while the Treasure Dealer sells bones for 1,000 reales a piece.
This process will get expensive, so you’ll need to make a lot of money to follow this path. With a little extra work grinding money, you’ll be able to get upgrades before you can visit the related animal you need to hunt. You’ll also sleep better at night knowing you didn’t shoot those poor monkeys.
Related Achievements
There are two achievements you can unlock while hunting Wild Pigs and Ocelots. You can do this early on with Abaco Island’s Ocelots and Great Inagua’s Wild Pigs.
