Petting or befriending animals is a staple in modern gaming and Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is no exception. There are eight different animals with which you can interact, allowing you to unlock the Friend to All achievement.
Friend to All achievement (Trophy)
In Black Flag Resynced, the 8 different animals you can interact with are Dogs, Cats, Chickens, Pigs, Cows, Turtles, Parrots, and Monkeys.
You’ll come across them as you explore the world map, but some of them can be a bit out of the way or too small to notice.
If you’re looking to unlock the “Friend to all” achievement, you’ll have to interact with each of the 8 animals at least once. We will show you where you can find all of these animals with the least amount of travel time.
It looks like Ubisoft may have made a typo in the Achievements listings. You are required to find and interact with all 8 types of friendly animals, not only 7.
Dogs
These are the most common animals, you’ll find them in almost every populated location in the game. Interacting with them will play a scripted scene where Edward pets them. If you stay close to these adorable animals, they will start barking, asking to be petted again, sitting, and rolling around on the ground.
Even though you can find them nearly everywhere, we suggest you go to Kingston because you can find the other four animals in the same city, making it easier and faster to unlock the achievement for interacting with all eight.
When you fast-travel to Kingston, get off your ship and walk on the docks; more often than not, a dog will be roaming around close by.
Cats
The second most common animals in the game world, just like with dogs, you can find them almost everywhere there’s a settlement, on roofs, on piers, even on your own ship if you so wish.
Interacting with them starts an animation where the cat jumps on Edward, letting him pet them for a little while until, in very cat fashion, they get annoyed and decide they no longer want any more pets. If you stay close to them, they’ll look up at you and make adorable meows.
Same as with dogs, we suggest you go to Kingston specifically to interact with five different animals in the same city. Fast-travel to Kingston, walk off the docks, and at the entrance to the main street, you’ll find a cat you can pet.
Chickens
Not as common as dogs and cats, but still, you can find them in all big cities in the world. Interacting with them results in Edward feeding them by pulling some seeds out of his pocket and tossing them to the ground. There are no additional interactions with chickens sadly, all the feeding animations in the game are a bit lacking.
These are one of five animals you can find in Kingston. Quick travel to this city and walk right up the docks to the main street right ahead. You’ll find different groups of chickens you can feed.
Pigs
Along with cows and turtles, I would say these are of medium difficulty to find in the world, there are not many places where you can find them or they tend to be very out of the way.
Interacting with them, just like with chickens, starts a feeding animation where Edward throws some seeds on the ground, and the pigs eat them. Other than that and the occasional oink, there are no more interactions with these animals.
You can find these animals in Kingston. Once you leave your ship and walk down the docks, you want to turn right and keep walking. You’ll find them in a pig pen right next to a general store right off the beach.
Cows
Just like pigs, these can only be found in the most extensive islands with settlements, and even though they are the largest of all the animals Edward can interact with in a friendly manner, they can be quite easy to miss.
Petting them makes the cows approach you slowly and lightly bow their heads. Edward then proceeds to pet them. They have very slow and deliberate movements.
Cows are the last animals you’ll visit in Kingston. They are located on the eastern side of the island, just outside of town. You’ll find a couple of them inside a pen.
Turtles
Turtles are the only animals you can more easily find in the wild, on uninhabited islands rather than near settlements. They hang out on beaches often in groups moving very slowly.
Interacting with them triggers a feeding animation where Edward kneels down and feeds them seeds, and you can see the turtles munching on them. They don’t have more animations or interactions, but they have a very realistic look.
The most accessible location to find a turtle to feed is in Great Inagua, right next to the bonfire on the beach. You can find a single turtle roaming around near a stack of leaves.
Parrots
These are the rarest animals you can interact with in the open world. They are always inside cages and can only be found near certain stores on the map; one can even show up near the general store in Great Inagua after you’ve upgraded it to the last tier.
Interacting with them makes Edward reach out with his hand into the cage holding seeds for the parrot to eat. They have very lively animations despite being caged, and their models are very detailed. It’s a shame there’s not a parrot pet in the game as of writing this guide to complete the traditional pirate look.
One of the easiest and fastest places to visit a parrot is on Andreas Island. After quick travelling to this island, you just have to walk straight past the harbor master, and you’ll see the Local Officer. To the right of his tent, there’s an empty tent. Outside of that one, you’ll see the cage with a parrot inside.
Monkeys
Out of all animals in this list, monkeys are the rarest because you can’t interact with them in the open world. You can only interact with them when you equip one as your pet.
Interacting with any monkey pet will count towards completing the “Friend to all” achievement. You can equip pets through your inventory menu. Once you’ve done so, go to the manor in Great Inagua or the captain’s quarters aboard the Jackdaw, there you’ll find your pet and be able to interact with it.
Monkeys are very lively animals, and although their idle animation is somewhat limited by always being on the ship or the manor, when you pet them, they are very fun to watch. They hug Edward and get on his head and playfully pick through his hair.
