You can track your progress with the Spear Challenges in-game by navigating to Journal → Challenges → Mastery → (Goyen’s Advice) Spear.
Sharpened Spear I
You unlock Sharpened Spear I after picking up the Sealed Abyss Artifact at the fork in the road outside the Calphade Gate in northern Hernand.
Challenge
Land 15 counterattacks with a spear within 30 seconds
Tips
You can land counterattacks using the Counter Stance Skill unlocked by upgrading Armed Combat. It works just like the Down + Special that a lot of characters have in Super Smash Bros, except the duration is limited by your current Stamina rather than a set time limit.
The hit requirement and time limit make this much easier to do in a crowded battle at a stronghold.
Sharpened Spear II
You unlock Sharpened Spear II after picking up the Sealed Abyss Artifact at the Greymane Shrine on the Nas River Island east of Hernand Town.
Challenge
Hit enemies 30 times with a spear within 30 seconds
Sharpened Spear III
You unlock Sharpened Spear III after picking up the Sealed Abyss Artifact at the fork in the road along Hook Rapids in north central Hernand.
Challenge
Defeat 5 enemies within 15 seconds using Stab
Sharpened Spear IV
You unlock Sharpened Spear IV after picking up the Sealed Abyss Artifact along the main road outside Flame Knights Castle in western Demeniss.
Challenge
Defeat 3 enemies with a spear within 1 minute using only leap attacks
Sharpened Spear V
You unlock Sharpened Spear V after picking up the Sealed Abyss Artifact at the fork in the road at Bradenfern Farm between the Hills of No Return and Drakesfall Gorge in northern Hernand.
Challenge
Defeat 5 enemies with a spear without taking damage while maintaining 100% Health
Tips
Counter Stance is a great way to clear this one because you block the hit and then deal damage
