All Upgraded Tools in Crimson Desert: What They Do and How to Get Them

Endonae by Endonae|

Most tools in Crimson Desert have upgraded versions that perform their task significantly better than the common versions you can find at Provisioner’s Shops. We’ll show you what each one does and how to get it.

Pickaxes

Pickaxes greatly increase the number of ore and minerals you get from mining compared to using something like Force Palm or Explosive Arrows. All of the upgraded Pickaxes offer a flat increase to the total yield per swing and offer a chance to get additional materials on top of that.

Fine Pickaxe

Attack Icon

Attack: 10 → 33

Mining Yield Up Lv 1

Chance to Mine Additional Materials: 20 → 30%

The baseline Pickaxe already offers the Mining Yield Up Lv 1, but the Fine Pickaxe adds the chance to Mine Additional Materials on top of that.

You can purchase the Fine Pickaxe Blueprint required to craft a Fine Pickaxe from the Mineral Shop in Karin Quarry in central Hernand.

Bernor’s Pickaxe

Attack Icon

Attack: 12 → 35

Mining Yield Up Lv 2

Chance to Mine Additional Materials: 20 → 30%

Bernor’s Pickaxe offers a higher baseline Mining Yield compared to the Fine Pickaxe and the same additional chance to mine additional materials and is usable by all characters.

You can purchase the Bernor’s Pickaxe Blueprint from the man himself at the Fort Manub Mineral Shop in Tashkalp, east of Tomasso, in the Crimson Desert.

When equipped, hold Examine to aim and hold Attack to mine rocks and minerals. Mined ores will be collected automatically be. Drills through the target based on how long Attack was pressed.

A revolutionary mining tool. It enables mining at speeds that far outclass the traditional pickaxe. Not content with mere efficiency, the inventors pushed further, integrating an auto-collect feature that collects ores the instant they’re mined.

The Mining Knuckledrill can be upgraded to offer the same yields as Bernor’s Pickaxe while also automatically collecting anything you mine, which is super useful when you get those crazy high yields in the late game or when you have to climb to mine something like copper. Unfortunately, only Kliff can use this tool.

You can send out Mission Dispatches to craft the Mining Knuckledrill at Vorwork Armory in Demeniss and Karin Quarry in Hernand after completing the Electric Tool Design Research Project at Dewhaven Keep Institute in Delesyia.

You also receive a Mining Knuckledrill for defeating the Excavatron at Karin Quarry and can get them to drop from enemies there who wield the tool/weapon.

Logging Axes

Logging Axes enable you to get more and better Timber from chopping down trees. You need different qualities of Timber to upgrade most Bows and some Shields.

Fine Logging Axe

Attack Icon

Attack: 10 → 33

Logging Quality Up Lv 1

Chance to Log Additional Timber: 20 → 30%

The Fine Logging Axe increases your odds of getting Fine Timber and can be upgraded to increase the chance of logging additional Timber. Even after you have the “better” Logging Axes, you may still want to use this one instead if you need regular and Fine Timber, not Flawless.

You can purchase the Fine Logging Axe Blueprint from the Provisioner’s Shop in Odeck in northwestern Pailune. You may need to defeat The Forgotten General before this shop becomes available.

Olvald’s Logging Axe

Attack Icon

Attack: 12 → 35

Logging Quality Up Lv 2

Chance to Log Additional Timber: 20 → 30%

Olvald’s Logging Axe is the best axe out of the box and is usable by all characters, but it is slower than the Demenissian Chainsaw.

You can find the blueprint for Ovald’s Logging Axe on a table in the Longbranch Shade Hideout north of Skallcove in northeastern Pailune.

The Longbranch Shade Hideout is inside a giant tree with a door carved into it.

When equipped, hold Examine to aim and hold Attack to chop down trees. Logged timber will be collected automatically.

A logging tool that drastically boosts speed. It enables logging at a pace incomparable to a standard axe. Not satisfied with this, the artisan designed the system so that timber is automatically collected through the saw blade simultaneously with logging.

The Demenissian Chainsaw allows you to chop down trees faster and can be upgraded to match the yields offered by Olvald’s Logging Axe, but it’s only usable by Kliff and you will have to spend some Abyss Artifacts to get those gains.

The fact that the Demenissian Chainsaw autoloots the Timber is less valuable because pets can still pick it up for you, so it’s not really worth using.

You can send Mission Dispatches to craft the Demenissian Chainsaw at Vorwork Armory in Demeniss and Steelspike Armory in the Dewhaven region of Delesyia after you have completed the Electricity – Movement Conversion Mechanism Research Project at the Dewhaven Keep Research Institute in Delesyia.

Fishing Rods

If you don’t know what fishing rods are, maybe ask your parents if they think you’re old enough to play this game.

Fine Fishing Rod

Fishing Cooldown Reduction Lv 1

The Fine Fishing Rod slightly reduces the time you have to wait before another fish will bite.

You can purchase a Fine Fishing Rod from the Tannery at Forentin Lodge outside Vellua in southern Hernand.

Pororin Fishing Rod

Fishing Cooldown Reduction Lv 2

The Fine Fishing Rod further reduces the time you have to wait before another fish will bite, but the benefit is negligible.

You can send a Mission Dispatch to the Arboria Craftshop in Hernand to craft the Pororin Fishing Rod after learning the recipe from completing the Secret Tools of Life Research – Pororin Research Project at the Pororin Research Institute.

The Claw

Hold A | ✖ | SPACE to reel in fish

The Claw has a slightly misleading in-game description. It doesn’t let you bypass the fishing minigame altogether, but it offers an alternate control method to reel in fish. Rather than needing to rotate the right control stick or spin the scroll wheel, you can just hold down the button to reel (after the fish stops splashing).

The consensus seems to be that The Claw is more useful than the Pororin Fishing Rod, particularly when trying to catch those extra-large fish that never seem to get tired.

You can steal The Claw from fishermen that use them. There’s often one found at Bounty’s Net, east of Vellua, in southern Hernand, but you can find them elsewhere.

You just have to get them spooked by using attacks or flying in and landing near them, so they drop what they’re holding. Make sure you have your Thief’s Mask equipped and are prepared to pick it up as soon as they drop it.

You also receive The Claw for reaching 100 Trust with Patrigio, the guy with the Secret Shop. Patrigio is a wandering peddler that can appear along main paths at night. He seems to frequent Pailune and Hernand.

Patrigio is just a regular human vendor, so he accepts money Pouches and Flowers, though he also likes Packs and Lamp Furniture. Keep a stack of 20 Flowers/Pouches on you just in case you run into him.

Scythes

Scythes can enable you to harvest large batches of crops faster. You just swing it at the plant, and the Scythe collects it, but if you don’t hit the plant just right, you’ll destroy it and get nothing.

There are a couple different Scythes you can buy, but there doesn’t seem to be a difference between them in terms of harvesting performance.

The fact that you have to pull out the scythe makes it less efficient for harvesting wild plants on the spot, but your upgraded alternatives like the Magic Scythe and Kuku Gardening Pack are more universally useful.

Magic Scythe

Attack Icon

Attack: 8

Skill

This scythe allows you to harvest grass or crops over a wider area than a normal scythe and gives off light when you’re near gatherable plants or insects. The effect can be charged up to 3 times, with each charge having a 5 second cooldown.

The Magic Scythe has a significantly better range than other harvesting tools but it has limited charges and eventually breaks. It’s worth keeping a couple on hand until you get the Kuku Gardening Pack.

You can send a Mission Dispatch to Florindale to craft the Magic Scythe after completing the Secret Tools of Life – Research Pororin Project at the Pororin Research Institute in southeastern Hernand.

Kuku Gardening Pack

Bag Coins Icon

Gather Plants

On use, automatically harvests all plants in the vicinity and deposits them into your inventory. This effect has a 10 second cooldown.

Kuku Gardening Pack

The Kuku Gardening Pack acts as an AoE vacuum for all plants in a pretty wide radius around you, dramatically speeding up the harvesting process even beyond what you can achieve with the Magic Scythe. You can use it on NPC farms as well, but this does count as stealing.

This thing basically also prints money because you can use it to suck up high-value plants that take a long time to harvest, like Palmar Leaves, Skyroot, and Rubber, though don’t discount other rare, late-game plants like Taro, Amaranth, Prickly Pears.

You can craft the Kuku Gardening Pack at Kilnden Workshop in west central Hernand after receiving the Blueprint from Lyselia, the Green Witch of Humility, by purifying the Sanctum of Veneration on Mount Benus in southeastern Delesyia.

You’ll need a Power Core – Ore of Resipiscence, 3 Abyss Cells, a Core of Mortification, and a Kuku Pack to craft a Kuku Gardening Pack.

The Kuku Gardening Pack is featured in our catalog of all Packs with unique abilities in Crimson Desert. There are a ton more packs you should collect and use for various activities.

Best Daggers

Daggers are used for Stab attacks if your equipped weapon is not suitable for the task, like Axes, Maces, or Hammers. They’re also used to repeatedly stab large enemies you’re clinging to, like Trolls and Bears, and for skinning animals to get their hides.

The best Daggers offer a 10 20% chance to skin additional hides depending on upgrade level, though it is difficult to justify spending Abyss Artifacts upgrading a Dagger unless you’re using one of the aforementioned “blunt” weapons.

Aeserion’s Dagger

Attack Icon

Attack: 10 → 30

Critical Rate Icon

Critical Rate Lv 6 → 10

Bag Coins Icon

Chance to Skin Additional Hides: 10 → 20%

Aeserion’s Dagger is the best in the game because it starts at upgrade tier 5, so you save an Abyss Artifact and get more benefit before deciding to start upgrading it. Damage-wise, it offers the highest Critical Rate.

You can craft Aeserion’s Dagger after getting the Blueprint from the rubble below the Serpent Shrine near Three Brothers’ Cliff on the southwest coast of Delesyia.

King’s Dagger

Attack Icon

Attack: 10 → 30

Attack Speed Lv 1

Critical Rate Icon

Critical Rate Lv 5 → 9

Bag Coins Icon

Chance to Skin Additional Hides: 10 → 20%

The King’s Dagger offers slightly more Attack Speed and second place for Critical Rate alongside the chance for additional hides.

You can loot the King’s Dagger from a chest underneath the large headstone at Totemfelt along the road north outside of Pailune City. Use Force Palm (or equivalent) while standing in front of the headstone to open it.

Goblin King’s Treasure Dagger

Attack Icon

Attack: 12 → 34

Critical Rate Icon

Critical Rate Lv 5 → 8

Bag Coins Icon

Chance to Skin Additional Hides: 10 → 20%

The Goblin King’s Treasure Dagger has the lowest max Critical Rate out of the 3 in exchange for the highest base Attack stat out of all the Daggers with the hide skinning bonus.

Unless you want to super duper ultra mega min-max, I really don’t think it’s worth your time to care about the stat differences between these Daggers. The cost of upgrading them and using any of these over the regular Daggers is more important.

You can loot the Goblin King’s Treasure Dagger from a chest at the base of Mudridge Cabin near the Sanctum of Temperance and Pororin in southeastern Hernand.

The chest is hidden in the stilts keeping the cabin out of the wet part of the wetlands, so you can’t just walk up to it directly, but there’s a little crawlspace that connects to it.

Useless Tools

Some items classified as tools are completely pointless or are only necessary like once or twice in the whole game and aren’t worth keeping in your inventory or storage.

  • Shovel
  • Broom
  • Mallet
  • You
  • Rake
  • Pitchfork
  • Hoe

Shovel

You need the Shovel to dig up Skyroots. That’s it. You don’t really need Skyroots until the late game when you have access to the Kuku Gardening Pack which can do the same task much faster.

Broom

There are like two quests in the entire game that require a broom. You will be provided one for these moments. There’s also the Pine Broom Challenge, which requires you to defeat a Bear using only a broom.

You can use the Sturdy Broom, which has 3 Abyss Gear Sockets, and embed something like 3 Greater Beastbanes if you’re having trouble.

You can unlock the Pine Broom Challenge by picking up the Sealed Artifact along the main road leading to Thornbriar Fortress near the border between Hernand and Demeniss.

Endonae

Endonae

Endonae is a passionate gamer who's particularly fond of challenging action RPGs and open world games with visceral combat. The closer it is to being a Soulslike, the better. Ranged casters, particularly of the energy or elemental variety, are his bread and butter. Lightsabers are pretty cool, too.
