How to solve the Smoking Lands Ancient Ruins Fountain Puzzle in Crimson Desert

The Smoking Lands area is home to one of the water fountain puzzles in Crimson Desert. Solving it will unlock an Abyss Artifact.

Where to find the Smoking Lands Ancient Ruins

You can find the Smoking Lands in the northernmost parts of Demeniss and east of Tashkalp. It’s well hidden in the forest and may be difficult to spot from the ground. It’s a lot easier if you have your own Wyvern mount.

How to solve the Fountain Puzzle

This puzzle is almost identical to the Arboria Forest fountain puzzle in Hernand. Your goal is to rotate and position the stone fountain pillars so that the pouring water falls inside the stone basin. It will fill it up, spill onto the water wheel and this will trigger the Abyss Cresset to reveal the Abyss Artifact on the side of this structure.

Before you can rotate the pillars, you must burn the vines that have overtaken the ruins. Use a flaming arrow or Blinding Flash as a quick and easy solution.

You will need to rotate each one of the fountain pillars to make sure all streams of water land inside the stone basin. If one of the streams hits the stone wall, the mechanism will not trigger.

To rotate the stone pillars, use the Stab skill. You only need it at Level 1 for this puzzle. By the time you arrive at this location, you will most likely have learned it already. If not, you can unlock it by spending an Abyss Artifact.

Stand facing one of the little narrow holes and use Stab. There is no audio or visual cue where to stand. You don’t need to aim exactly at the target. Your character will push their weapon into the hole. Move left or right to start turning. You can press the modifier key to speed up the animation (SHIFT on Keyboard, X on Controllers).

After you position all three, a short animation will play and the camera will pan toward the Abyss Cresset.

Reward

As with all other Ancient Ruins puzzles, the reward is an Abyss Artifact. This one is not sealed. It will directly give you a +1 Skill Point. You can use it to unlock new skills or upgrade your gear to higher tiers.

This area is home to the Desert Mouth Maze Puzzle as well. It is located northeast from this location, not too far.
