How Abyss Artifacts Work

Crimson Desert has forsaken a traditional leveling system to manage skill points on the skill tree. Instead, you find and receive Abyss Artifacts, which are a consumable item that let you allocate an additional skill point in the skill tree. They are also required to upgrade all equipment past tier 4.

There are 3 types of Abyss Artifacts in Crimson Desert, regular, Sealed, and Faded. None can be sold.

Abyss Artifacts

Regular Abyss Artifacts give you a skill point right away. These tend to be given as rewards for completing quests, puzzles, or minigames. Abyss Cressets also act as Teleportation points.

Sealed Abyss Artifacts

Sealed Abyss Artifacts are locked at first. Each fancy-schmancy sky cube require you to complete a specific Challenge that gets revealed when you pick it up. They tend to be just lying around rather than some sort of reward.

Faded Abyss Artifacts

Faded Abyss Artifacts are consumables that let you respec, i.e., reallocate all of your current skill points.

Note on Map Locations

In this catalog, the player marker on the map shows the location of the Artifact. In a few isolated cases, we have placed a custom marker for the artifact’s location, if it’s different than the player’s location.

Regular Abyss Artifacts

Most regular Abyss Artifacts either come from Abyss Cressets after solving some sort of Challenge or are deposited directly into your inventory as a quest reward. Abyss Cressets also act as Teleportation points.

You also receive Abyss Artifacts whenever the gold meter next to the minimap fills up from defeating enough enemies.

Mazzul the Justicar

You receive an Abyss Artifact for defeating Mazzul the Justicar at the Burnhand Quarry during the quest One Step Ahead.

An Unreachable End

You can find an Abyss Cresset along the coast of the Steel Mountains on the border between Demeniss and Hernand.

Bamboo Forest Seonangdang

You unlock an Abyss Cresset after solving the Bamboo Forest Seonangdang in the northeast corner of the Serpent Marsh in southwestern Demeniss. To solve the puzzle, stack rocks on top of the one in front of the Cresset.

Earthen Being Drop

Abyss Artifacts have a small chance to drop from Earthen Beings at Hexe Sanctuary. Out of all the hordes of Earthen Beings, I found 2 that seemed to drop from the bulkier jar enemies at Hollow Haven.

Edge of Learning

You can find an Abyss Cresset on a pillar rock between Serpent Marsh and the mainland.

Full Moon Reaper

You receive an Abyss Cresset for defeating the Full Moon Reaper at the Eastern Court of Demeniss as part of the quest Lunar Judgment, which unlocks after you’ve dealt with Bastier at the end of Chapter VIII: Blood Coronation.

Half Moon Reaper

You receive an Abyss Cresset for defeating the Half Moon Reaper at the Western Court of Demeniss as part of the quest Lunar Judgment, which unlocks after you’ve dealt with Bastier at the end of Chapter VIII: Blood Coronation.

New Moon Reaper

You receive an Abyss Cresset for defeating the New Moon Reaper at the Southern Court of Demeniss as part of the quest Lunar Judgment, which unlocks after you’ve dealt with Bastier at the end of Chapter VIII: Blood Coronation.

Knightshield Mountains Ruins

You unlock an Abyss Cresset after solving the Knightshield Mountains Ruins puzzle in the Tariv Sorcerers’ lands in Demeniss. To solve the puzzle, stack 4 small pots like you see beside the Cresset. They have to be stacked pretty straight or they’ll fall over.

Kutum

You receive an Abyss Artifact for defeating the Kutum at The Kingshield Dig Site in northwestern Demeniss. The miniboss you have to fight is the same kind as the one you fight at the Twisted Thicketway.

Peak of Enlightenment

You can find the first of two Abyss Cressets atop rock pillars in the southwestern region of the Serpent Marsh.

Peak’s Green Bloom

You can find the second of two Abyss Cresset atop rock pillars in the southwestern region of the Serpent Marsh.

Raging Tempest

You receive an Abyss Artifact for defeating the Raging Tempest at Silvermoon Tradehouse as part of the quest “The Day the Moonlight Waned”, which should unlock after completing Chapter VIII.

Rock Worn Down by the Ocean Wind

You can find an Abyss Cresset in a cavern on a tiny island along the coast south of Bowspirit Cape, east of the Steel Mountains.

Sanctuary of Reflection

You can find an Abyss Cresset inside the tiny Morning Mist Cave in the Serpent Marsh in where the water makes a 90^o turn.

Secret Chamber of the Golden Plains

You unlock an Abyss Cresset for solving the puzzle at Secret Chamber of the Golden Plains in north central Demeniss. This one is well-situated as a teleportation point, but you have to burn through the briar patch on the stairs every time you use it.

Stonewalker Antiquum

You receive an Abyss Cresset for defeating the Stonewalker Antiquum at The Gate of Truth as part of the quest “Pillar of Light Atop the Mountain”.

This is the sickest fight I’ve experienced in this game so far and I’d highly encourage you to use Nature’s Snare against his laser attack.

Strange Rift

You can find an Abyss Cresset in a basalt cave on Bowsprit Cave by the Southern Eldertree. You can also hunt the Vine Deer, a legendary beast nearby.

The Stairway Falls

You can find an Abyss Cresset at the base of The Stairway Falls along the east side of the Steel Mountains coast.

Thunderwater Falls

You can find an Abyss Cresset at Thunderwaterfalls, near the Sanctum of Revelation on the northeastern side of Serpent Marsh.

Trembling Woods Ruins

You can find an Abyss Cresset at Trembling Woods Ruins along border between Hernand and Demeniss about halfway between the Nas and Willow Rivers.

To solve the puzzle, you have to align all the different circles using the 3 turnstiles. The one on the right rotates the drawing/picture, which you have to align with the center bit. The one in the middle rotates the big circle frame. The left turnstile rotates the frame with the two smaller circle frames.

To rotate the left, you need to stab the post with your sword since the part you would push has been broken off.

Where Sky Meets Earth

You can find an Abyss Cresset at the very top of Trembling Gorge, east of Pororin, on the southern part of the border between Hernand and Demeniss.

Wriggling Hill Ruins

You can unlock an Abyss Cresset after solving the puzzle at Wriggling Hill Ruins, east of the Sanctum of Mortification, north of the Golden Plains. To solve the puzzle, drain the water by using Nature’s Snare on the machine and light all of the torches.

Wrecked Dream

You can find an Abyss Cresset on a tiny peninsula along the coast of the Steel Mountains near the border between Hernand and Demeniss.

Sealed Artifacts

You’ll find Sealed Abyss Artifacts along the road or at Shrines. They’re a lot easier to get than their unsealed brethren, but you have to complete a Challenge before you can get the skill point.

Small Predator

You can find a Sealed Artifact at the fork in the road due west of Demeniss Castle where the farmland ends.

Dancing Blade, Shining Shield II

You can find a Sealed Artifact at the fork in the road in the heart of the Golden Plains in northeastern Demeniss.

Dancing Blade, Shining Shield III

You can find a Sealed Artifact by the road south of The Ironwood and east of Bamboo Forest Seonangdang.

Fun fact: the word Seonangdang refers to the holy trees with all the colorful fabric tied to them.

Special Weapon: Shotgun

You can find a Sealed Artifact along the road near Ironbarrel Armory in eastern Demeniss.

Overwhelming Slash II

You can find a Sealed Artifact at a fork in the road near the northeast “corner” of the horse racetrack, north of the Golden Plains in Demeniss.

Mysterious Accessory Shop

You can find a Sealed Artifact at the main road junction south of the city of Demeniss.

Barraging Cannon II

You can find a Sealed Artifact along the road at Shadow’s Slope in southeastern Demeniss.

Clash of a Protector

You can find a Sealed Artifact at the fork in the road near Hayroof Farm in the northeastern corner of the Golden Plains in Demeniss.

The Dark Pilgrim Who Stole the Ember

You can find a Sealed Artifact near the hidden entrance to the prison at Thornbriar Fortress in the Steel Mountains. The shrine is up on a cliff near the main entrance on the southwest side of the fortress.
